I hope we'll see some of this in Halo 4

I’ve read all the Halo novels and I’ve noticed that the games lack something.

In the books the spartans are so bad -Yoink- doing super human feats, like John running at 110 km/h or Jai ripping prison doors out with his bare hands, heck that guy simply walked through a frikkin wall!! I really get the impression of them being truly walking tanks, inhumanly precise killing machines. They are always described as mountains of humans.

Yet from the games I never got this impression. The chief did some cool things, but noble team were like average soldiers. I never really felt that I was playing as a 7’2" tall, half a ton walking tank in the game. And the Spartans are also underscaled in the games.

Now if I remember correctly, 343 said that they will be putting some emphasis on the super soldier feel of the game.

So I hope in Halo 4 we’ll see some cool quicktime events and get the feel what its like to be a spartan.

This is what the spartans should look like in the games not only on concept arts and books.

I know its not a big deal but it adds depth to the game.

I believe that’s something they want to show, the spartaness of John.

> I believe that’s something they want to show, the spartaness of John.

Spartaness?

I think you mean “Spartanness

> I believe that’s something they want to show, the spartaness of John.

I hope so.

We better be able to run as fast as cars.

I believe I saw a quick clip in a cinematic of Master Chief forcing a metal door open with his bare hands so I’d say that’s a start in the right direction

Oooo! You have motivated me to maybe read some of the books!

> I believe I saw a quick clip in a cinematic of Master Chief forcing a metal door open with his bare hands so I’d say that’s a start in the right direction

And then the clip of Chief throwing an Elite down an elevator shaft XD

> Oooo! You have motivated me to maybe read some of the books!

Cole protocol, cryptum, and contact harvest are absolutely amazing. I recommend starting with them.

Agreed.

Here are some easy ways to increase immersion.

H4:

-moving other characters by running against them. While this is in H2/H3/ODST/Reach, it takes forever to move even a Grunt let alone a marine. Often I have to melee then push to move them around at full speed. When doing the infinite armor lock glitch in Reach Forge, your Spartan can easily push other bipeds. This should have been the case.

-moving supply cases. In H2/H3/Reach, I had a lot of uses for them but it took an eternity to move them using melee (just walking into them won’t work). That does not mean I want something like Sputnik (sometimes it’s a bit too much).

Having a melee with a force stronger than Cowbell but lower than Sputnik would be ideal.

-not being splattered by your own vehicle. This happened a lot in CE and H2 and could happen in Reach. In H3, it never really happened. Most of the time you would just lose your shield or get knocked back a little. Stand underneath the Scorpion being dropped off on The Covenant at rally point bravo. Though the pilot will not regard you (unlike Pelican pilots in CE), you won’t be splattered upon impact.

-more animations for actions. You’ll notice in Spartan Ops, when retrieving the artifact, there is a retrieval animation that occurs. Course there shouldn’t be an animation for everything because that’d just make gameplay really slow. So as believable it would be to see Chief actually flip a tank, it might just get in the way.

In the books, plasma melted people’s faces off and made holes in steel. Enough said.

> In the books, plasma melted people’s faces off and made holes in steel. Enough said.

Now that would be cool to see:D I’m sure we dont see that kind of stuff in the game because the engine cant do it.

I think I should do a thread similar to it but with more substance.

But yeah I recently saw a calculation that could put John’s shields at 30megajoules.

…Pretty please 343…

I am absolutely disappointed with the lack of facial plasma burns. And scars, and gashes. Its like nothing touches the skin, on the marines,ODSTs and regular officials. Don’t just give important “battle hardened” soldiers scars, GIVE IT TO EVERYONE!!! Free scares for all.

Not the mention the books say that many soldier had prosthetic limbs. That would be cool, free scars and artifical limbs for everyone!!!

The games lack much of the book fiction
If the games were like the books

  1. The game would have mega gore as plasma goes streight through UNSC troops and dont get me started on the sword.
  2. elites would be to hard. On ghosts of onyx an elite spoted a sniper like 2 miles away and made a attempt to make a grin.
  3. Plasma weapons would be OP
  4. Easy would be past games legendary
  5. would strike fear in you not laughter
  6. You would lose your shield with 1 shot from plasma weapons or several bullets

Theres much more and i focused on some things that would be obvious

  1. I think with todays limited technology its not possible to simulate realistic plasma damage
  2. yet in the same book the spartans made the elites look weak and pathetic like when kelly ripped the sword out of an elites hand and cut 2 elites in half with the same slice
  3. considering the plasma weapons damage on the spartans they are pretty close to the books, for everythin else for balancing reasons of course they dont destroy everything in 1 shot
4-5. no, thats the whole point playing as spartan. they can easily kill the covenant
  4. bullets deal very low damage to shields or armor in the books actually, and Ive never read about 1 shot shield drains.

Finally I think the when the game differs from the books its only due to balancing or hardware limits, and I dont think scaling the spartans to the right size or adding some cool animations would require too much processing power or break balance.
