If you remember correctly though, Halo 2 (when it was first released) had some major xbox live issues as well. It took Bungie a while to get it running better. In hindsight, many people refer to Halo 2 as their definitive online experience. 343 stated last night that they will roll out an update this weekend and are as well working on the fix that will correct the matchmaking issues. I’m actually quite please with how transparent they have been up to this point already.

i agree with everything you said, and yeah halo 2 had some issues I don’t recall having many problems except with my own modem back then
.
My questions were based more off curiosity than frustration.
I am one of the nosy types that likes to know whats going on… lol

Perhaps, though the difference with H2 is that since there’s been many other Halo games shipped that had XBL matchmaking, including Halo 4 and HCE anniversary done by 343, so you’d expect they would have the expertise and experience to get it right, yet they miserably failed at getting the XBL matchmaking working for MCC and its been out for a few days now.
It would be great to get more information about the actual cause of the matchmaking not functioning, someone messed up big time.
To be exact they said that an update would arrive on the weekend for several of the reported issues but Matchmaking is not one of them. Given that there are several other bugs in the game package this is an important update anyway.
They also said that they believe to have found the underlying issue with Matchmaking and plan to deliver it next week. Until then they will try to mitigate the issues by server side tweaks as much as possible (as they have done so far as well - and for some that has brought down wait times to an acceptable but still far from great level). Lets hope some of the crashes when exiting a match are fixed as well. Looking forward to the change log of the first update.
> We DO have dedicated servers. First off – and I will say this for the next hundred years – SORRY – we are fixing it. It’s getting better slowly today and we expect that trend to continue, but what you’re seeing currently is actually just an element of this complicated problem – we do in fact use dedicated servers for matchmade games, but as an emergency contingency, MCC is designed to fall back to traditional peer-hosted gameplay in the event that there are connectivity issues with the dedicated servers. This can happen for a variety of reasons including intermittent unavailability of dedicated servers, poor ping times to the dedicated server datacenters, or network configuration issues that prevent you from being able to access the dedicated servers. We’re busy getting stuff fixed and improved, and I promise you I will give you a full breakdown of what happened (and it’s multiple compounding things) after we fix it all. And Dan is going to update everyone on the situation and improvements later today. And sorry for periods of radio silence, we’re literally rushing around fixing stuff.

Thanks for that, I guess we can only wait on our end.
Still, hopefully they give details, I don’t see why we pay for a console, a game AND the xbox live subscription to get a failed service like this one.
Seems like matchmaking is not the only issue, the game crashed multiple times, many campaign and multiplayer features don’t work properly or not at all…
MS and 343 should do something to make up for this fail of a launch, other than just fixing it, with a paid online service like XBL you’d expect servers to run properly at the very least.

Transparency would entail they explained why the game was such a terrible launch, what happened and why.
Lol do we really expect a honest explanation ? I don’t they have known the game was bugged since they started shipping copies. Delays to advertised deadlines cost money, think they were gonna release mc on 11.11.15.
they will fix the bugs just gonna take a few weeks. And as it’s the weekend don’t expect much in terms of patches before Monday.
