There was a “leak” a while ago about Halo Wars 2 with a bunch of details, not many people took it too seriously but there is one detail I remember which was that you could select any unit and go first person and play as them for a little bit and then snap out of it again when you felt like

Although I certainly wouldn’t mind switching from a more classic Age of Empires view to a more intense Total War view. I mean: pure for the looks and for the awesomeness, but I wouldn’t care for controlling a single soldier.

There was no leak.
Just some non-Halo Wars fans trying to put their spin on a game they know nothing about.

Where’s your source? I would really like to see it. However, you know this has been discussed before? Creative Assembly has already confirmed that they are building off of Halo Wars, which had zero FPS (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/halo-wars-2-will-not-be-total-war-halo/0153979). Get your hopes up for a different game, but not HW2, sorry.

If the ability to change to an FPS view while playing an RTS changes anyone’s opinion on purchasing, they probably shouldn’t be buying the game. For -Yoinks!- sake, it’s an RTS and not another FPS Halo installment. That (Halo CE, 2,3,Reach,4,5) is a separate branch of the series. This, Halo Wars, is a separate branch.
There is no need to mix the two genres and there is no advantage to including that ridiculous idea. Being in an FPS view while playing an RTS would prevent you from effectively controlling your troops and economy which is the entire premise of an RTS.
Dear god I hope this is nothing more than a untrue rumor, i want Halo Wars 2 like Halo Wars was as a “pure” Basebuilding Strategy Game. I loved Halo Wars the way it was.
I’d love it to have a first person thing, it’s not like it’d ruin the game, you guys are seriously being ridiculous, you’d have the same health as the unit normally would except you could control it, big deal.

It then ceases being an RTS. That is the problem. You do not need First Person view in an RTS. It would only severely hinder your control of your units and economy.
Control of units and economy from a topdown view is the basis of Real Time Strategy. You cannot take the First Person view of one unit and remain in tactical control of your entire command force.
You taking a FPS view would leave your units without orders and objectives. Again, that is the whole idea behind RTS’s. You giving orders to your units. While in an FPS view you cannot issue orders to units (except perhaps in a very limited proximal squad way, whereas RTS’s generally employ large numbers of units) nor manage your economy (resource management, upgrade research, unit training).
If you don’t want to do that, why are you playing an RTS? Why don’t you idiots get this? What purpose does being in an FPS view serve in an RTS? It would have absolutely zero benefit to you and only hinder your control by removing the method of standard RTS command input.
no for many reasons stated . However a special unit that you could control would be nice. Eg the arbiter was similar to that in halo wars. For unsc a Spartan for the covenant their leaders
As stated before, it’d be cool to go that far down with the camera, but controlling a unit like that would change how the game plays completely and I don’t think it would work out well unless they’ve really thought about it, but even then it’d have to play completely different to fit that in. But if they somehow did make it work I think it would be phenomenal, although I love the way Halo Wars plays out just the way it is. So IMO I think they would just be better off trying to build off of what they did with Halo Wars 1.
