Covenant units have each been unique in to fighting with their own gameplay mechanics to defeating. For example, grunts have confidence in numbers but coward alone. Pretty well scripted.
Marines, however, the past Halo games have acted, fought, and died the same. You could give them a sniper or rocket launcher and they bring it to melee range and still miss. So, I hope marines are better scripted as well as Spartans and how they act in vehicles. Like really well scripted. If you give a marine a sniper, they will stay back or look for a high point to shoot until the enemy is gone then come running back to the player.
In the E3 trailer I just wanted to comment on their design they look like the model from Halo Reach which I think that is when they looked best but I agree with the OP they do need better scripting

One thing I should mention is that they had the slightest big of interesting scripting to them in the older Halo games. As they would reach death, they would enter a beserk mode and be highly aggressive while shouting things. Kinda getting that one final dose of adrenaline.
I think it would be great if they somehow improved the marines driving ability it would be great if this could be the Halo game where I can finally trust the ai in the driver’s seat of a warthog. I haven’t let the ai drive since Reach.

Well iʻm not looking for them to carry me to across the mission. Im just looking for them to have common sense in a combat situation.

Marine driving is only capable in Halo 3, for me. I just donʻt want them to stop so much when a pebble blocks their way and they brake just to slowly go around.

> Halo 4 had a lot of marines. Especially in the middle of the campaign. The issue is that it’s way to easy to run past them all.
Yeah, I guess during the Infinity missions. Spartan ops had plenty though. Some of the missions revolved around them.

I only played Halo on Normal when I was a kid, so I always assumed the stupidity of the marines was due to the difficulty level, especially on Legendary where you’re guaranteed to lose every fellow marine in every section of the level. I think the point was to make due with what you had in the campaign and that meant not relying on your marines to do everything for you. If that were the case and the marines were actually smart enough to stand back with the sniper or get sick overkills with rockets, then what would there be for the Chief (you) to do? You can already attain infinite rocket or spartan laser ammo if you just equip a marine with one and have him/her sit in the passenger seat. Also, I really don’t think their intelligence is all that bad. I’ve seen marines in the game get some pretty good kills on Elites and Brutes, maybe even on a rare case a Hunter.
I also think it’s pretty accurate when it comes to an actual army/navy standpoint. Most of the marines in Halo could possibly be of a different MOS such as a cook or engineer, but were pulled to the combat lines due to a low number of infantry and combat focused troops. Having been in the service myself, I’ve worked with lots of people who’ve been to combat zones and they were just cooks, fuelers, and even administrative jobs. So the stereotype that every marine and soldier is 100% tactically proficient in every single way, shape, and form is just a myth. I’m not saying that those people acted as dumb as Halo marines do, but I highly doubt they were the epitome of tactical and combat proficiency when down range.
It would be nice to have Marines that are useful for once.
All your allies in the Halo series (Marines, Army Troopers, Militia, Elites, Sentinels, and ODSTs) have been pretty disappointing: they die too easy, have poor aim, and seemingly do less damage than you even when they have the same weapons. Suffice to say it never surprised me to see them die in droves no matter what difficulty or mission on any game. It’d be nice if that changed, for once. They don’t have to carry me through the game on their back, but it’d be neat if they could actually hold their own against a handful of grunts or jackals at the very least. Allies are a joke in Halo, unfortunately. ODSTs and the Elites in Halo 3 were particularly disappointing because they weren’t nearly as strong as they should have been. It doesn’t seem right that Elites would make tough Enemies, yet poor Allies, while a squad of ODSTs can pull off an uncoordinated mission they barely know anything about with little contact between them in the middle of a city on fire one game and then repeatedly jetpack to their deaths in the next.

Yeah. And have animations scripted for certain events, like trying to run away and stumbling if a sword elite gets close or completely losing it when they see someone get infected by the flood. Marines just need to act like real soldiers, but in turn should have lower health or a chance to get shell shock after an explosion goes off nearby.

Marines could have their intelligence buffed to go to high vantage points with snipers or fire on crowds with rockets BUT have health and damage nerfed.
I just hope they can drive better than the reach marines. STOP DRIVING OFF THE CLIFF MARINE! it was annoying on legendary when I had to keep restarting because the marines kept driving off cliffs or running each other over or running me over.
