I hope Jul Lives

Honestly, I like Jul 'Mdama. He’s a cool looking character. His motives are understandable. I really hope that he doesn’t die in Halo 5. It would make me sad.

-Ghost

I do too, I don’t think he’ll die in the first level though.

They will almost certainly kill him off in the first level.

I know what happens to him. Heard the Jackals talking about him in Blue Team in one of the gameplay videos.

He’s probably going to die in the first mission. Then without central leadership, his faction will really start to lose power. Thel did say Sunaion is their final stronghold.

He’s most likely gonna die in the first mission, sadly, I actually liked his character in Spartan Ops. In the E3 trailer you can actually see him bleed at around 5:20 seemed like locke cut him.

Well, if he dies, then how will we have organized covenant enemies going into future games? Brute or Elite leadership is crucial to having some form of organized covenant. And it would be weird if they just stuck another Elite in Jul’s place to be in charge after Jul’s short run. And it’s not like the Brutes are really in a position to reform some sort of covenant.

As far as Jul is concerned he can eat - yoink - and die. I read the Kilo Five trilogy and I was just waiting for it, but it never came. I just really want the covenant to fall apart tbh, but then Chief wouldn’t have target practice…dilemmas lol.

Well it would likely be easy because there are still several factions just on their own that could have the power to antagonize outside of Jul’s group. Already the Escalation comic series features an Elite by the name of Sali 'Nyon who wishes to take over Jul’s Covenant. Avu Med Telcam is another potential player who hasn’t been mentioned for sometime now. Despite having an informal agreement with ONI to cause interference with the Arbiter, Telcam is another potential antagonist whose power can grow to the point of challenging the UNSC with his own faction. Considering all the analogs to real world events regarding post-Cold War politics/proxy wars in a post-Human/Covenant War era such a move by Telcam to emulate how the Taliban turned against their CIA suppliers would not be surprising for 343i to implement.

Not only that we don’t necessarily have to require a group labeled as the Covenant (with all the enemy types within) to antagonize Humanity or some other faction like the Swords of Sanghelios. The growing importance of Forerunners in the present along with the possible return of the Flood/Precursors post-Halo 5 could take up more prominence as time goes on.

I would really love to see Jul survive. I like his character and he’s been a favorite of mine since Glasslands. I would also like a Jul avatar…hint hint

Well, I’m aware of the other factions, but within the games, Jul’s has just been referred to as “The Covenant”. I feel like if they were going to go more into other factions in the game, then they should’ve, or maybe would’ve started to introduce that concept already. And being honest here, if the largest current faction falls, how long can the whole religious covenant thing really last without seeming like just an excuse to keep aliens working together? The whole religious aspect of the Covenant already feels like its lost most of its meaning tbh. Which I suppose is intended, but still… We can’t have covenant factions forever.

Could someone please fill me in on who Jul is and how he relates to Halo 5?

The Didact’s hand. He’s the Elite that leads the current Covenant. He’s perfectly aware that Forerunners aren’t Gods, but plays on it to keep the rest of the Covenant (who are mostly made up of Elites that didn’t have too much to do with the human-covenant war, so don’t know that the great journey was a lie) following him.

He was taken prisoner by ONI (before he’d formed the new Covenant), and overheard their plans to poison Sanghelios, and recolonise it with humans. He was also informed that his wife died in a ship battle that involved the Infinity.

So, from his point of view, the humans killed his wife, and want to invade and recolonise his home planet. Can you really blame the guy for attempting to destroy humanity before they destroy his entire species?

I dont like him. He is just like a prophet with an elites face. A target, something to hate. I dont even understand his motives most of the time. Their gods were disproved in halo 2 and this guy still believes on them? Why? I dont understand him, and frankly, I think i’ll -Yoink!- him.

Jul doesn’t believe the Forerunners are gods, he’s keeping the remaining Covenant who believe they are gods in line by manipulating them using the same ideals the Prophets used.

And he wants revenge for the death of his wife. His motives are pretty justifiable and he’s actually being smart by wanting to exterminate humanity now before they overpower every other species in the galaxy. Which humanity is already beginning to do even just years after the war.

Like he said in Glasslands (not word for word, but close), “humans aren’t the best at anything, but they are good enough at everything.”
He’s looking out for his own people, believe it or not.

This. Gained new respect for him recently as my wife has been working thru the Kilo Five trilogy and filling me in on it, he is portrayed very sympathetically - only a small fraction of his story is told in Halo 4, and I’m not familiar with Escalations. As far as he knows, humans killed his wife and humans tried to poison his entire species. I’d probably be pretty ticked too.

He’ll die I think, The arbiter will kill him.

You’ve gotta delve into the extended universe if you wanna understand his motives, but my post kinda sums it up.
