I hope 343 knows not to do everything the forums say.

For example, sprint. (I’m not saying that shouldn’t be in Halo 4, just an example of a lot of people wanting it on the forums.)

The forums often times propose bad ideas, and the developers shouldn’t put it in just because of that. People often times propose bad ideas, and they don’ always know what they actually want.

Yup, the TU is a bad idea too. They shouldn’t listen to us at all.

/sarcasm.

When did I say that?

No offense to anyone, any developer, any tester, blah blah blah… but I think Reach was a good testing ground with Halo. At least with how far one can go and what the community will and will not tolerate. I don’t pretend to speak for everyone but it is fairly common knowledge that Reach was not widely accepted among all Halo fans.

I realize the same can be said about any other Halo game but it especially rings true with Reach.

Well Bungie didnt listen to what the majority of the forums said, so I doubt 343i will either. Alot of people wanted equipment out of the game and to go back to a more simplistic HCE- like Halo game with non-random weapons,power-ups and faster kill times, and Bungie went in the opposite direction basically giving us spammable power-ups and equipment off spawn, and giving us once again a random starting precision weapon and slower kill times. I doubt 343i ever reads this forum other than general feedback in one or two threads.

BS Angel posts quite frequently in the forum. More than i can say than most B.net Moderators.

Very well said. They should make sure that it won’t break the game. I’m sure that they don’t do everything the community says. I would think that it’s more like that a good idea gets posted and then it’s suggested. After that, they take the idea into consideration. If they think that it won’t work well, then they don’t do it. If it is really a good idea, then they will apply it in some way.

True, but to them we are just the “vocal minority” probably a irritant to them most of the time. They get more information from data, marketing research, and in game testing than these forums. I think the whole “were involved with the community and listening” thing is mostly for show.

After I’ve seen the contents of the TU and listening to all the HaloFest panels, I’m confident that 343i will make the correct decisions re:Halo’s future.

343 needs to keep halo one the same and dont add anything. it doesn’t need jet pack or armor lock it is still the best halo game but if they add the halo reach crap, it will suck.

Perhaps though it wouldn’t be surprising. We are but a fraction of the fanbase and everyone’s got an opinion. Those opinions usually conflict and it’s hard to pinpoint concerns with forums alone.

In the end, i believe we have a role to play here, even if it’s small.

This right here needs to be posted in every thread, every homepage, EVERY SINGLE THING THAT EXISTS!

if anyone remembers going on the bungie.net forums during halo 3 than they should remember the fact that almost everything in reach was in someway taken from complaints from the community. the ranking system, the DMR in response to soooo many people complaining about the BR, the bleed-through system in response to AR rushing, AA in response to equipment being useless, invasion, jetpacks, etc.

No.

We may be a vocal minority, but we’re the ones who take the time out of our day to locate and sign up on their forums and talk about the game, both good and bad. Our say can’t really be ignored.

However, to prevent 343i doing something totally stupid because the forum wanted it, we should take time to present a solution with our complaints. This way, they have a direction we want them to go in rather than having them guess.

LOL, they didnt make any of those things better other than making the precision weapon single-shot but they then added the randomness to it with reticle bloom taking two steps back and one step forward. Most people complained about the random spread of the H3 BR, not that it was burst fire. Sprint+double melee is 10 times worse than AR rushing which is what you do if you have the AR lol you want to rush forward and stay in melee range. Equipment was complained about for being OP and game-breaking on some maps and Bungie went and gave it to us off spawn making it 100 times worse than it was before. The ranking system was only complained about because there were cheaters as there is in almost every single online FPS out there. You ever play PC FPs online? Half of the servers are modders and aimbots on some of the older FPS lol. Jetpack was a horrible idea if you value the importance of map control and strategic map movement like most Halo players do, the whole thing was just a mess they did not listen to the majority of the forums with Halo Reach or the majority of the forum-goers wouldnt be so turned off to Reach.

your completely wrong 343 SHOULD listen to its players to add what the community wants.

I think 343 is smart enough to look through the forum, maybe get some ideas, and really think about it, and then think about it some more, then they’d might try it out, and try it out some more, and if they don’t like it, it will be dropped. And if they do like it, they’ll probably go through some more processes to be double sure, etc etc.

343 will make the game, but they are also a developer that listens to the community, this is a video game series with a huge community, so it’s our job to tell them what we like and don’t like, and when something is terribly wrong, it’s our job all together to bash it into their forums, and other forums too, and their emails.

343 needs a checklist.

1.) is the mechanic in question LOGICAL in its current implementation?
2.) is the mechanic in question INTUITIVE in its current implementation?
3.) is the mechanic in question something that is CONTRADICTORY in its current implementation (even some of the time)?
4.) is the mechanic in question something that induces RAGE / unpleasant feeling in the majority of the community?

then, they should ask themselves if these mechanics could be made to be logical / intuitive / non-contradictory / non-rage inducing. if they can be, then they should go for it.

as long as 343 looks at things from a logical / reasoning-based standpoint, we’ll be fine. hopefully they dont do the opposite like bungie did with the majority of the mechanics in reach.

this. lol.

bungie looked at perceived problems, then took the most illogical, unintuitive, often times contradictory steps to achieve goals. in the process they broke a number of things, and made the entire game terrible as a direct result.
