Why are there sooooo many threads about “fixing” this and “fixing” that, but very, very few about how to be a better player? Or so few about getting friends rounded up to fill BTB parties?
I am a moderator on an archery forum (one of the 100 largest on the entire web), and we have the same sort of thing going on over there, too. There are tons of threads on what equipment to get, yet very few about improving skill or learning the art/science of archery.
What gives? Everyone want a plate of EASY just handed to them?

thats what people use forums for durr.
you have a problem, go to a forum and ask, if everythings fine then no need to visit the forums because you’re having fun …
Oh, come on, Haunted. You know what I mean. Why no threads on becoming better gamers? I haven’t found any. Isn’t that what forums are REALLY supposed to be for?

forum is to discuss the game, matchmaking section is specifically for things about matchmaking so i wouldn’t expect to see anything in this area about that.
also, people don’t want to ask to be better because they don’t want to be seen as bad, people only go to forums to complain, if its a hobby forum then its advice on which product to choose and set up, people don’t really like to meet people they’ve met over the internet because they’re afraid for there own personal security.
this belongs in the general section, so, wrong forum brah (untill it gets moved)
Yeah, maybe it is the wrong forum. LOL It’s related to matchmaking so I dropped it here.
I’ve personally met a few forum members from ArcheryTalk, though, and have shot with them in comps. Even met a couple of my Halo buds for that matter. I don’t worry about my security. I’m a big boy.
This particular forum, like Optimatch before it, is actually quite interesting in that it attracts a lot of transient complainers, and a core of dedicated veteran “debaters” who frequently act more like lobbyists for certain issues. I actually really enjoy the atmosphere of the point vs. counterpoint, although occasionally it gets pretty old when everyone repeats the same stuff. There’s something to be said for the thrill of using a well-worded argument to get people to see things in a different light though. So, not quite what you are talking about, but useful in a different way. There are other forums for what you are looking for.

perhaps you need to loose some weight
well, you’re not some screaming teen, your, what in your 40s? (i can’t remember) and the people you know on XBL you’ve known to trust more intimately …
what you do is not the same as other people, especially considering most of those people are young …

Why put any effort into becoming a better player within the confines of the game, when you can just whine continually for 2 years and get the game changed to suit you instead? Even if the peeps who were happy get the shaft in the process? Seems to work apparently.
Its like a microcosm of real life too, when huge corporations lobby the government to get laws changed in their favour and then lots of people get screwed. We are humans, this is what we are and this is what we do.
Its the nature of the game. Advice that would improve one’s halo playing doesn’t come across well in print… aim better, for example.
Games like magic the gathering have forums where players are constantly offering and asking for advice on playing and card choices- that sort of gaming advice is well suited for forums.
Yes, Haunted, I’m in my 40s…no need to remind the old guy. LMAO!!
I was hoping there’d be tutorials, discussions and such here. We do have those things on my other favorite forum, although even there it ends up about complaining about archery organization rules and equipment purchases far too often.
I guess most just use the internet for complaining instead of learning. Meh…
You didn’t know? Everybody here is already an expert and the best that ever was LOL!
As a side note, after seeing the Hunger Games, my daughter said she was interested in archery so I picked her up a compound bow and she has been practicing away on the side yard of my house =) Post a link to that forum and I think I would like to check it out.

Because a lot of these “top players” have this whole want to stay on top of the food chain and won’t help out newer players. They rather feel superior to someone for being better and do not want to be challenged out of this throne they virtually have. I mean that’s how I view some of them. A lot of it has to do with. “I din’t need help” why can’t you do it without help.
Its all kinda dumb if you really think about. For people who complain about not having competition, but oppose new competition at the same time is a contradiction.
The halo council (google it, I dont want to have my post put somewhere else) is a website that is going to be pushing content for halo 4 (Interest is rather low for reach atm) Seeing there is new elements for that game to learn, I see it as a fresh start to be teaching people how to play halo.
I’m going to admit, My views have changed over time, I use to be the player that put down the newer one. I probably will be called out on by one of these players on the forum that I have trolled the hell out of. It’s a lot better for me to know the mistakes I have done. So if anyone is going to light me up for being a hypocrite. Go ahead. I deserve it.
@Degeneration: Knowing that you don’t know is the first and last essential step to knowing, you know?
@Kronik: I could say it has something to do with players age and state of mind, but in fact I do believe it’s related to human nature.
About getting better…I don’t know.Myself, I try to focus on “creating teamwork with random people”.If you play with them, they might end playing with you
Anyway, it’s fun to see other bowmen interested in futuristic fps, kind of paradoxal, don’t you think?

Yeah, I suppose so, but I was realyyy bad to people on here. (Enough to warrant a permaban)

It’s a huge forum with lots of subforums to cover about everything, from shoot locations to bowhunting to youth archery.
> Oh, come on, Haunted. You know what I mean. Why no threads on becoming better gamers? I haven’t found any. Isn’t that what forums are REALLY supposed to be for?
Because people assume themselves to know everything there is to know.

A fellow archer, huh? Awesome. Maybe you could check out the forums I linked above. But for me it’s not too paradoxical since I tend to shoot high tech compounds and seldom do the trad thing.
But I also like some other games, like the Elder Scrolls series. In fact, I know Haunted likes Skyrim. I heard him tell someone to NOT buy it because he didn’t want to see them be victimized by it. LMAO!!

As soon as I get a capture card I will start making tutorials on how to get started in Halo.
