I have to admit...

The fact that the skulls are the same in Halo 4 as in Reach, and that they’re already unlocked from the get-go, is extremely disappointing. It definitely reduced my interest in campaign quite a bit. A lot, really. That’s at least half the fun of campaign for me, and they removed it. I don’t understand: every game in the main series now has skulls, and they went out of their way to add them into Halo: CE Anniversary. Why not do it for Halo 4? It makes ZERO sense.

I know terminals are pretty fancty in Halo 4 and all, and it’ll be kind of fun to find them. But Halo: CE Anniversary had BOTH, and that was the best! So did Halo 3! It just seems like they phoned it in with regards to the skulls this time around, and terminal hunting isn’t nearly as fun for me as skulls are. Especially when all the skulls are the same lame ones from Halo: Reach.

No sputnik (this one really bummed me out).

No pew-pew (which I was hoping they’d finally add in, or one that turns the sounds into 8-bit sounds lol).

No grunt funeral (that was fun sometimes; chain reactions in Assault on the Control Room and whatnot).

Just… really disappointing. What does everyone else think?

P.S. Sorry if this is a re-post from yesterday; I was suspended for like a week and I don’t feel like combing through pages of threads just to revive an inactive thread.

I am as well, I hoped for the old ones to return just for LASO, but I also wanted something like elite skulls or promethean skulls that had fun effects. Like you said, a skull that had 8bit video game gun sounds would have been amazing.

“Hey, you want to find all of the terminals in campaign?”

It just doesn’t sound the same, I would rather have skulls.

Wow, you mind as well just complain that the game is called Halo.

> Wow, you mind as well just complain that the game is called Halo.

What?!?
I actually wished we had to find them it makes it so much funner that way but maybe the terminals actually will be hard to find that way it’s worth while

Everyone wants to find the skulls but say it made half of the campaign is just…sigh halo fans are the worst complainers ever.

Pretty disappointed that there won’t be collectible skulls, but I guess personally for me it’s a minor thing in comparison to the game as a whole.

I’ll be fine with it, I guess. There are still Terminals to be found.

> Wow, you mind as well just complain that the game is called Halo.

Might* as well. Not “mind”.

And no, that’s not the same. Being upset about not having “findable” skulls is a legitimate thing to be disappointed by. Your example is just silly. They’re not at all the same, as you can see by all the people who agree with me…

It would have been nice to have to search for the skulls and add more replay value to the campaign and also have some new ones. Oh well.

Hopefully the rest of the terminals are decent.

I am less worried about the skull finding and more about the skulls themselves.

I really want to see some Halo 2 skulls return, specifically ghost, envy, grunt birthday party and assassins.

Those were great fun not only to find, but also to use.

Since when is saying I’m disappointed in something “compaining”? Methinks you need to get reacquainted with the definition of “complain”.

And it IS half the campaign… to me. The story is great and all, but after you know the story, what else is there? There’s skull hunting, there’s playing the game WITH those skulls on once you’ve found them, etc. Just giving them to us feels like a cop-out; you should have to prove your worth and EARN those game-modifying attributes. Just having them handed to you is silly. It’s the equivalent to just adding another mode called “Super Legendary” and letting people use it from the get-go without having to prove you’re a skilled Halo player first.

It’s like how in old school FPS games (a lot of them, anyway), you used to have to beat the game on “Heroic” (or whatever the particular game called it) before “Legendary” was unlocked. Well, same thing here, only finding the skulls was even more fun that just beating the game on a tougher difficulty, because it required you to do things you wouldn’t normally do in the campaign: grenade jump to places you normally wouldn’t be able to access, watch for certain things to happen and do the right thing at the right time (i.e. the “Fog” skull in Halo 3, where you had to kill the Flood form on the roof at the beginning of the mission at JUST the right time for him to drop it at the right time for you to get it), etc. It took creative thinking, problem solving, and overall “above average” skill in things like grenade jumping to earn these game-modifying elements.

It’s a sense of pride when you find one, and especially when you find all of them. They’re like achievements, only better because they actually do something other than just appearing on a list somewhere on your dashboard. All that adds up to a huge part of the game for me; not just playing through missions over and over to find them, but knowing how to get them, practicing certain techniques to do so, etc. If it weren’t for skulls, I wouldn’t BE playing the missions over and over again, searching every nook and cranny, paying attention to even the smallest details and events, etc.

That’s AT LEAST 50% of the campaign, in my eyes.

Well, you can want all you want, but the skulls are final, and they’re the same as Reach’s. Exactly the same.

Not being able to find them was bad enough, but to have EXACTLY the same skulls? That’s adding insult to injury.

They couldn’t even add just a COUPLE of others? Even old skulls, like Sputnik, would have been fantastic, and maybe 1 new one, like the “Pew Pew” skull they mention in the Halo: CE Anniversary commentary video would have been amazing, or a maybe the one the turns all the gun/vehicle sound effects into 8-bit sound effects like I said earlier; that would be amazing also… OR WHY NOT BOTH? It can’t be THAT difficult to make a few dozen very simple sound effects; hell, I’d do it for free!

But alas, they just copy/pasted the entire skull idea/skulls themselves over from Reach and didn’t even TRY to change anything. I realize they’re doing a ton of stuff with Halo 4, especially in terms of multiplayer and graphics and such (it looks BEAUTIFUL, no doubt about that, even Forge does), but come on… skulls have been a staple of the Halo games since Halo 2, and have almost always had SOME alterations from game to game.

How about hunt for Terminals AND skulls? Why not? :stuck_out_tongue:

Skulls from the get-go. Terminals are viewed on waypoint only.

So much disappoint in such little time.

I was also hoping for a little more skull variety and to have to hunt for them. It gives me an excuse other than “because I can” to explore every campaign level!

I am dissapointed that skulls aren’t collectables anymore. less so for finding them, more so for the fact i really enjoyed going through a campaign level, smacking people around with a skull in my hands. That’s how to finish the fight. Guns were for the weak.

I am disappoint. :frowning:

Oh well. What’s done is done.

I think what they’ve tried to do is limit the number of skulls which’ll make the game easier to begin with, otherwise everyone would just run through with bandanna or something and hammer legendary in 10 minutes. The reason the beneficial skulls were in CE:A comes down to the fact it was a 10 year old game and everybody on the planet already knew what to expect.

There’s a good chance a few more will be released in upcoming map packs once people have had a chance to experience the story how it’s supposed to be played.

Pretty much how I feel.

I hate to be the downer guy here, But I don’t care for skull hunting. It was frustrating and annoying. sometimes a decent challange sure, but it took away from the mood of the campaign and focus on story and challanges within the campaign.

Spartan OP’s if anything could maybe bring about similar secrets, but meh, I just don’t care for the skulls.
