Nelkrons are an ancient enemy of the fore-runners, but were eventually defeated and all trapped inside a giant prison until the halo array fired which freed them.
The nelkrons are biomechanical life forms with the power to convert energy to matter and matter to enercy at will. They are able to mutate into any form they want, but their appearance generally esembles a mechanical humanoid with a birdlike head. Somewhat similar to the myrs from magic the gathering.
The Nelkrons after they escaped their prison began rebuilding their civilisation on sigma 17 as well as other nearbye worlds and systems. Their ancient quarrel with the fore-runners is unknown (to me), but the reason they are attacking the humans (as I have been able to put it together) is because the ancient humans had allied with the fore-runners against them.
Source?
Interesting. Somewhat believeable, and I guess it could be the “Ancient Evil”.
There is a certain order in which you have to read the books in order to read this. Also, my other source is kinda a leak, so I can’t post it here.

Yeah. That’s what I thought.
I have seen this exact speculation thread posted on bungie.net. These ‘Nelkrons’ have never been mentioned before, why would they just suddenly appear? Lets just stop with taking random ideas out of your head and presenting it as a fact.
Nelkrons is in my opinion such a non-believable name…
And that transformation energy-matter and matter-energy wouldn’t be very usefull if we stuck to Einstein’s principe about veeeery little matter being able to be transformed in a loot of energy but a loot of energy being transformed in a veeeeery little ammount of matter.
Sorry, but I don’t want 343I to introduce another (!) species to the universe when we haven’t even seen Forerunners in-game.
And saying you got part of this information from reading the lore isn’t believable either…
Oh yeah this is completely legit guys.
You have to read: Halo Fall of Reach, Halo Ghosts of onyx, Halo Cole Protocol, Contact Harvest, First Strike, Halo Cryptum, and Halo The Flood in that order and you will get a pretty good hint of this.

Its true he did. Look at my list. Also, you may be right, but still stars have a lot of energy. And imagine if they could use that? And u r right a small ammount of matter does make a lot of energy.
Also this would fit perfectly in with the anceint evil.
And the fore-runners sacrificed themselves when they let off the halo array. It is possible that they survived but not very probable.
Nelkrons is really the name you’re going with? Really? That’s totally not a ripoff of the Necrons (Warhammer 40k, for those of you who don’t know). And last I checked from another supposed “leak”, the name of the planet was Sigma 7, not Sigma 17, which I don’t believe, mind you.
If you’re right about all of this, it’ll make me cry.
Yeah its sigma 7 not 17 he messed up on that.
And nelkrons does sound like necrons too so ur right about that as well, but still theres a lot of evidence and stuff pointin this way.

Ditto.
I find it very very very very VERY unlikely that this is the case.
I’d prefer Precursors, or failing that, dinosaurs. (…yes, I’m jumping on that bandwagon…imagine owning Velociraptors with an energy sword though!!!)
This information is not valid to me. I have done my research and i have never seen or heard of this. Until i see some valid proof i am going to stick to my Precursor theory.
Whats the precursor theory?
> Whats the precursor theory?
… coming from someone who said to read Cryptum?? =s
I have read cryptum. I just want to know what this theory is about the precursor?
> I have read cryptum. I just want to know what this theory is about the precursor?
…well if you’ve read Cryptum then you should know about the Precursors and ‘The Timeless One’??
Sounds like fanfic to me.
Nobody take this guy seriously. He will never provide proof to anyone and he has pulled this crap on Bungie.net already and got banned for spreading false information. Hopefully 343 silences this joker.
I don’t trust anything not coming out of 343’s mouths
