Before I start, I will not add a poll. I just want to know what you think of this.
Suppose load-outs in Halo 4 only had customization for your Primary and Secondary weapon. Suppose if Armor Abilities were pickups on the map. Suppose that Ordnance was only for power weapons, and semi-power weapons along with grenades spawned on the map. Suppose that Personal Ordnance was only for extra ammo. Suppose that Random Ordnance is modified to drop Power Ups regularly.
What would we have?
To me, this is what Halo 4 should have been; A step up on the formula of Halo 3’s equipment mixed with power ups and weapons, a slight change to the load-outs of Halo Reach, and now the new Personal Ordnance via H4LO all put into the mixing pot.
These settings could have been put all across the board, with or without sprint. MLG could have easily simplified the AAs available like they did for Reach, along with having only one weapon, or even two, for use in the load-outs. This seems like a simple idea that could have kept the Halo core alive with new stuff.
343, this is an idea I hope you see. I hope it makes you think about what you’re going to do with Halo Xbox One. And for the community, please discuss this idea.
I like it, sounds like several steps in the right direction.
Agreed. Only a few things I would change though:
Speaking specifically of Halo 4, the secondary weapon should always be forced to be a weapon that cannot EMP vehicles or be used as a “pocket shotgun” (i.e. the magnum).
Random Ordnance is by definition imbalanced, which means it’s not competitive and should be removed from competitive gametypes.
Perks still need to go.
If you reduce PODs to only providing ammo and resupplies:
-For players who move about the map, this would be somewhat useless because they are already picking up ammo from dead bodies.
-For players who camp, they are given free resupplies instead of needing to move around to collect ammo from dead bodies.
Basically, it becomes useless. Why not remove useless mechanics instead of trying vainly to make something out of nothing?
I like how you have tried to balance it out however I see no point in allot of this e.g PO. I hate the current PO system and though your idea may fix it, it is completely out of place and doesn’t exactly promote map movement in order to find ammo.
For Halo 5/what H4 should have been
-PO and RO needs to be removed. IO isn’t bad but it doesn’t promote timing the weapons.
-Custom loadouts are absolutely fine in casual slayer playlists. However the customization needs to be balanced. All the perks need to be removed and the weapons need to be balanced. Plasma Pistols, Boltshots, Plasma grenades and Pulse Grenades need to be removed as they ruin close combat and vehicle gameplay. This leaves you with the 7 primary weapons, a magnum and 2 frag grenades with resupply as default like in the past. You should be able to customize your weapons cosmetically e.g. changing the tint of the scope or the skin of the weapon. AAs should be included will be addressed below.
-AAs are fine as long as they are balanced. Very few of Halo 4’s are balanced. The Jetpack ruins map control (though its normally used by target practice O.O) and needs to be removed. PV just is a ridicules concept and needs to be removed. AC was once a powerup (take the hint). Regeneration field could go back to a pickup, however you start with it therefore only have 1 use instead of x amount. Hardlight should allow you to punch through. Hologram and Thruster are pretty perfect. Its fine keeping all these AAs, just for custom games.
How does spawning with plasma pistol and or plasma grenades ruin maps with vehicles? Is it unfair that someone in a ghost can’t run over everyone without fear or launch rockets point blank from a Mantis or warthog with no chance of being killed? How can loadouts and ordinance drops be considered a bad thing if vehicles are fair? I would think that being able to spawn with a rocket launcher on a map with vehicles would be a great way to balance gameplay. If you just have to ride around in a warthog killing players who are carrying a rifle and pistol what does that say about you that your upset I can stick two plasma grenades in your lap?
Lots of different opinions. This is good.
On the subject of Personal Ordnance as ammo, I originally was going to have the idea it would drop a Speed Boost 80% of the time and a Damage Boost 20%. At the time I thought this would be slightly overkill, but in hindsight it seems like a more justifiable reason for Personal Ordnance than it being a simple resupply. On the plus side, it is only an item you can use on one life. On the negative side, Speed Boost is considered underpowered while the Damage Boost overpowered.
What does the community think of this replacement of PO Ammo? (Heh, catchy.)
