When in the teaser Master Chief is wearing his Mark VI armor with the desert robe/cloak. I’m wondering if this is just for the teaser and Master Chief is gonna have new armor in Halo 5 and 343 wants to hold off what he look like until the reveal of the game in 2014. Now it is possible that Master Chief does put his Mark VI armor back on in Halo 5 after he removed it at the end of Halo 4, but this is just a theory. Do you think that they showed Master Chief in the Mark VI armor cause they want to reveal his new look later on?
I would assume he is not going to wear his damaged suit.
The H4 teaser showed him in what looked like a cross between H3 Mark VI, and Halo Wars armor. Then later, it was switched to the current look.
That being said, even if chief wears totally new armor, I want battle damaged suits with cracked visors for MM.
I think his current look will stay. To me, the battle damages fits the idea that he’s on his own.
His cracked visor implies otherwise.

That and he’s obviously missing the two back arches on his chest/back armor piece, perhaps more. Ouch time.
I would think that be would have upgraded to Mk VII on his return to Earth.

As would I.
But we shall wait and see.
To me it looks like he took some serious damage. Look closely and notice how he doesn’t have any of his torso and shoulder armor, so he probably lost most of it.
What if… He gets that Forerunner class 12 combat skin Spark insisted so much?

Ever since Spark mentioned it, I’ve felt that Chief was destined to wear it.

And Chief is gonna need it to finally take on the Didact…
John has always got the latest Moljnir variant, so I believe he will receive the Mk. VII. To me, when he stripped his armor off at the end of 4, it had a sense of finality to it, like we’d ever see the Mk VI again. We know the Mk VII exists in the books, so why wouldn’t they introduce it into the game?
All we’ve had is that overhead view of the Mk VII on the Cover of Thursday War. I would really like to see it up close and personal.
For me it would be perfect if the Chief chose to retained his Mark VI, the damage gives him a sense of uniqueness that fits his character. Kinda like the chest plate scarring he rocked in H:4, it represents his luck and pseudo-immortal nature.
I think that the Chief needs a way to remain recognizable and with the new SIV’s fresh off the mass-production line, what better way to do that then to keep his old, broken, scarred and legendary Mark VI armor.
And as far as upgrades and new gadgets are concerned he could always bump into some crazy Forerunner CombatSkin-grade retrofits so he can keep up with the best of them. (And kick some Didact -Yoink-)
I think the question to ask is not why he has his old armor, its why he doesn’t have the new armor. Maybe ONI wants to do experiments on the Chief or eliminate him because he could be a possible threat and the Chief has to where his old armor because his new armor isn’t ready or something.
The Halo 4 epilogue would lead me to believe that he’ll be getting new armor.
Or perhaps he’ll request to keep his armor, and have it repaired.
It’s anyone’s guess.
Would make sense considering some people were angered that 343i just changed his armor while he was in cyro sleep.
