I have a question to ask regarding ONI?

Office of Naval Intelligence… abbreviated as ONI. Are they really that evil? A power, hungry faction within the UNSC that don’t give a yoink! about anything else apart from themselves.

I can see them playing a big part in Halo 4. I never liked those yoink! from the start. Why in blazes are these -Yoinks!- causing a civil war amongst the Sangheili race? You know what, yoink! you ONI. I like the Elites from Halo 3, it makes no sense why these ONI -yoinks- would cause a war amongst our Elite allies. I thought the Arbiter wanted peace with Humanity? Am I missing something here…?

Should I get Glasslands? Is it worth the buy? I’m a bit reluctant with all these Glasslands Hate threads.

Don’t be a drone, read the damn book for yourself and figure out if you like it or not. As for ONI wiping out the Elites, yeah I don’t like that either, but its us or them, so it seems in Glasslands. The Arbiter doesn’t represent the entire Sangeili species. Theres rebel factions that want to destroy all humans. So ONI, Xenophobic -Yoinks!- they may be, are not stupid and are doing what they think is right to save humanity, they kind of remind me of the Imperium of Man.

Although if your one of the types of people that have tantrums when they read that the Sangheili don’t absolutely and unconditionally love humanity(looking at you “hate threads”), then you might not fancy Glasslands much.

It’s cool. I just don’t like how this is turning out. I shall read this book and make a judge on it myself.

> but its us or them, so it seems in Glasslands. The Arbiter doesn’t represent the entire Sangeili species

So ONI thinks the smartest thing to do is side with the side against humanity. Flawless logic.

Not siding. Playing it against the Arbiter’s faction to keep the Sangheili unstable until the UNSC can recover from the war and wipe them out.

ONI are a lot like Cerberus from Mass Effect. They want humanity first, simple as. They think the Elite’s are going to potentiallly attack again, so they make sure they cant.

I understand that not all Sangheili take a liking to us, some of them despise us, while others deem us as worthy opponents during the Human/Covenant war.

Whatever you do 343i, don’t wipe the Elites out, well the good ones, to be precise. I like the Elites since CE and you wiping them out in Halo 4 (If they make an appearance.) will leave some Elite lovers rather upset.

I will like to see how this will turn out in Halo 4.

So siding with the side that at least respects you is off the table?

Look at it from ONI’s perspective. Side with an alien who for the last 27 years fought to exterminate humanity, and only allied himself with the UNSC to destroy the Prophets and the Flood. Wars over, now what? Should the Elites just let their former mortal enemy rebuild? Humanity doesn’t forget easy, and the Elites know it. One day when the UNSC is will be more powerful than ever and they probably want revenge, and the Elites haven’t the faintest clue on how to survive without grunts farming for them, much less rebuilding their fleet. So just because they respect us, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t shove an energy sword in our back if it came down to us or them. ONI knows this, thats why they PRETEND to side with the Holy Rebels, aiding them with weapons and stuff, hoping both sides destroy each other. Leaving the UNSC to rebuild with only the brutes to worry about.

Okay, reported for flaming for one.

So then why is ONI siding with the faction who would continue that trend? The Arbiter at least wants to make peace.

> Should the Elites just let their former mortal enemy rebuild?

The rest of the world allowed Germany and Japan to rebuild after the Second World War. It’s not like the Elites are in any position to stop us either way.

> Humanity doesn’t forget easy, and the Elites know it. One day when the UNSC is will be more powerful than ever and they probably want revenge, and the Elites haven’t the faintest clue on how to survive without grunts farming for them, much less rebuilding their fleet.

That’s why you ally with the Elites that will at least not want to kill you and control them. Maybe throw some farming technology there way, rope in in. It’s what the Soviet’s did with nations like Cuba, North Korea and North Vietnam and that resulted in proxy states they could use to fight the US. Such a system would prove useful against the Innies and this looming thread.

> So just because they respect us, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t shove an energy sword in our back if it came down to us or them.

So much for the Elites being an “honorable” race. Besides, It doesn’t have to be so black and white, but hey, diplomacy is for wimps I guess.

Wouldn’t it be smarter for humanity and the Elites to see the common threat of the Brutes and take care of that threat together? If anything this will only help the Brutes since they don’t seem to be ONI’s priority.

Oh wow, I’ve been reported by a random person online,! Guess I touched a nerve?

  1. ONI is xenophobic, all aliens are bad in their eyes, they simple want to start by wiping out the biggest threat first, the Elites. Officially they make peace with the Arbiter, but secretly they aid the Rebels, their playing both sides.
  2. This isn’t the rest of the world, these are alien races who(exception of a few) couldn’t care less if Humanity or some other race thats not them kicked the bucket.
  3. ONI doesn’t trust the Elites, if they gave the Elites the means to rebuild, then the rebel factions will also get those tools, and then both sides will be at full strength and ready to attack the UNSC. Remember, ONI’s perspective, not yours.
  4. All Elites being honorable is the same as saying all humans are compassionate and caring.
  5. Brutes are not the biggest threat, especially when Glasslands says theres 3 brute factions.
Loyalist, Separatists, and ones attacking everyone.

This is what Glasslands is saying pretty much, like it or not.

> 4. All Elites being honorable is the same as saying all humans are compassionate and caring.

And?

> Oh wow, I’ve been reported by a random person online,! Guess I touched a nerve?

I suppose I touched one since you had to resort to an ad hominem attack. Fairly pathetic really, just shows your weakness in debate. The mods here are unusually active at times and I’ve seen folks banned for less, so just food for thought.

> 1. ONI is xenophobic, all aliens are bad in their eyes, they simple want to start by wiping out the biggest threat first, the Elites. Officially they make peace with the Arbiter, but secretly they aid the Rebels, their playing both sides.

They are focusing on the wrong threat. The Elites haven’t done anything to them yet, the Insurrection on Venezia has. Not only that, but the Brutes are still a more viable threat since we know they are arming themselves. This just shows the lack of foresight in the minds of the Elites and ONI.

> 2. This isn’t the rest of the world, these are alien races who(exception of a few) couldn’t care less if Humanity or some other race thats not them kicked the bucket.

And yet all species want preservation and these cloak and dagger deals are a threat to that.

> 3. ONI doesn’t trust the Elites, if they gave the Elites the means to rebuild, then the rebel factions will also get those tools, and then both sides will be at full strength and ready to attack the UNSC. Remember, ONI’s perspective, not yours.

ONI’s perspective is flawed because they don’t seem to think that 'Telcam can’t betray them. All he has to do is show that ONI is arming him and seeking to break up the Elites and then he’ll have a real case and gather more people to his cause. May as well call themselves the Office of Naval Incompetence.

> 4. All Elites being honorable is the same as saying all humans are compassionate and caring.

Took my words a bit too literally.

> 5. Brutes are not the biggest threat, especially when Glasslands says theres 3 brute factions.
> Loyalist, Separatists, and ones attacking everyone.

It doesn’t say that. The loyal ones are very few and even they are stealing the Elites ships. And if The Return is any indicator, guess what, the Elites and Brutes will be fighting up until 2559. Not a threat? Really?

> This is what Glasslands is saying pretty much, like it or not.

I can still say it’s pretty stupid.

Thanks for cherry picking. Was -Yoink!- compassionate and caring to the Jews, homos, and gypsy’s? No, and my point being just because some Elites are “honorable”, doesn’t mean all of them are. Example, look at how the Heretic Leader didn’t fight the Arbiter 1v1, he used holo-drones, no honor in that. Does that satisfy your single word post?

A cherry-pick? What exactly did I propose?

And no your post is not satisfying because it is a fatuous generalization. Of course not all Humans are compassionate, but no one needs to point that out because those examples of sadism and evil are done by a minority with power. Most people are compassionate, otherwise our society would not exist.

What I was wondering is why you think it is relevant to point out that not all Elites are honourable, because most evidently are and those with no honour that are exposed as such are treated very harshly. (Koida 'Vadum who’s head was sent rolling for betraying Thel) So, Elites who have little regard for honour really do not hold very much power in their society.
