I Have a question for The "Purists"

Everyone i’ve seen that want it to play like the older halo’s says they do want that with some small innovations. Isn’t that very similar to what Halo 2 anniversary. since everybody says it’s not Halo 2. it’s more of a directors cut. it has forge as a newer innovation, it has the ar, small map differences, scripting, the hornet. if they made new maps for it and adjusted it slightly, would that be what you want for future halo’s.

H2a is a halo 4 game engine modified to feel like halo 2 and not include anything from halo 4 I’m fine with that. H2 has rockets that lock on so vehicle additions don’t bother me. And the ar I never never touch on any games… Br or dmr for me

so is it what you would like to see in future halo games

I’m not a purist. I’d play every Halo game from this point on if it was exactly like Halo Reach, Armor Abilities and all, (except Jetpack and Armor Lock) since Halo Reach is my favorite Halo game next to Halo 2.

However, I would still very much welcome the Halo formula returning to it’s roots, and rebuilding itself from there, if for no other reason than to remain a distinct experience for new players, in the same way that Halo 2 was for me. If they can build a new Halo game that doesn’t use Halo 4 or Halo Reach as the base, I think they can come up with an Arena experience far more promising than either of the former… Even Halo 5. Either way, proper innovation is a challenge 343 must overcome, and there is a lot of pressure from the fans for a faithful Halo experience, as well as a lot of pressure from Microsoft breathing down their necks.

  1. An idea of mine is to make your base abilities into weaker versions of the SA’s, while turning the Spartan Abilities themselves into pickups that greatly enhance them for a pre-determined amount of time. They won’t even disappear if you die; only if the timer runs out. Of course, this idea would require making Spartan Abilities much stronger (aside from Thruster Pack, really.) Practically increased to lore levels xD.

  2. They could turn each SA into a custom game option (that way players could moderate which ones are healthy for certain maps/modes and which ones aren’t.)

However, I feel they must separate Spartan Abilities first, and that’s my only take on it.

So a hybrid of classic halo and halo reach, since the AA’s could be dropped and picked up. It made it very tactical, more defense or get around quicker.

Personally I’d want a game that is more in line with Halo Ce, except with added depth and new additions.

You know, instead of having every game since Halo 2 be based on Halo 2. >_<
Reach was the only game to draw any significant amount of inspiration from Ce, but it was…mediocre at best.

I don’t speak for everyone obviously, though maybe some casuals would like it considering how everyone is always going on about “fast paced gameplay”. Halo Ce is by far the fastest paced game of the trilogy, perhaps even the entire franchise.

To me Halo Ce was the pinnacle of Halo, everything from game mechanics to maps to art style. The only thing I think that Halo 2 improved on was the Music and Story.

Yeah, if they improved upon the physics. and had a larger vehicle set and forge. A lot of people would like it.

No. I want Halo to change, but not like many people think.
I want the change that was in 2 and 3. I want changes and additions that don’t change the core formula, making it feel fresh and the same simultaneously. For example, Halo 2 added dual-wielding, hijacking, the BR, etc. Halo 3 introduced ripping turrets off, more vehicles, Forge, Theater, etc. I want Halo 5 to feature new additions like that.

Maybe add AI in Forge.

Put complete control in Forgers’ hands, and allow us to create different environments (think Project Spark).

Add more customizability to Custom Games (maybe allow weapons RoF and spread modifications). Make bigger and better sandboxes in Campaign.

Have minor choices in Campaign (Think Halo: Reach. I remember one mission where you could choose to activate a comms relay or take out an AA gun. Maybe have choices like that, but add effects, like maybe one choice could change the number of enemies you fight, and one choice gives you more backup marines.).

Have large-scale battles in Campaign (like the one in the Halo: Reach prototype).

Add more weapon variety.

Add more grenades.

Bring back equipment from Halo 3.

Take out Sprint and increase movement speed and jump height (maybe 125%), as the Thruster Pack replaces Sprint, offering a speed boost to surprise the enemy (which is what Sprint should be).

Add more interactive elements in maps.

This is how Halo should change. It should not try to fit in with the crowd (those games are only popular because they have to release yearly to stay relevant because of how generic they are becoming).

Its not exactly what I’d want, but I think of H2A as more of a proof of concept that shows that 343 can release something that resembles Halo.

The Forge updates in particular are something that I would point to as a good way to add to a sequel without actually messing with the core game. The problem I have had with the direction Halo has taken these last few years is that rather than truly moving forward and refining Halo gameplay the developers keep moving sideways.

Even looking at something like Forge going from Reach-Halo 4, we gained features like magnets and duplication, but lost precision forging tools. Mechanics and features just keep getting shuffled around and replaced rather than refined.

Release something that resembles to Halo? Sure. But make something that resembles Halo? I have yet to see that. Remember, Certain Affinity made the H2A MP.

I just want to say thank you for this post!! No, I don’t think I’d agree with you about Halo 5; I liked the beta a lot and I don’t think it differs from how the other games feel. But, if everyone who disagrees with 343i’s additions to Halo could be just like you the community would be so much better. Every time I see someone who didn’t like Halo 5 say something, they’re hating, or shouting across the internet. Not only did you not do that, but you actually gave a list of examples instead of just “do what Halo 3 did” or “don’t change the formula” (which honestly, I don’t know what that means). And I can support everything on this list as well as I can support changes that 343i has made in Halo 5. I’m not trying to start a debate, I just haven’t seen anyone with your opinion as calm and collected on the internet yet

so what if they made a halo 3 directors cut, put the stuff they weren’t able to do as well as add new things. updated forge, rocket hog, new maps. tweak or mess around with some of the equipment. add new vehicles and weapons.

Thanks! I am extremely annoyed at both whiners that say “Make Halo 3 2.0” or “Halo needs to evolve.” I like to see proof. And I hope that in the end, 343i makes a game that we all will love!

exactly what halo should become ,343 can inovate in halo im not saying they can’t or shouldn’t but not change it at all

Yes. I’d also like to see more experimentation with maps and movement mechanics like the teleporter/grav cannon. More experimentation with modes, pve and pvp. I’d also like to see them go crazy with campaign, just stupid crazy mechanics that would never work in multiplayer but they’d be awesome in Campaign.

like the scarab gun, but what if they added a scarab gun playlist for multiplayer.

some of those things are like what H2A did to H2C, like scripting and forge itself.

We actually made two entire threads about this that dominated the recent discussions for a while. Suggest you check em’ out.
