I have a major problem with infinite, but it's not what you think

Edit: Turns out it was my ancient 720p tv and base xbox combined all along. The game plays horribly on last gen. It’s disastrous.

All controversies aside, I feel like there is something that is not being spoken about enough on here (or maybe its being drowned out by controversy). Idk if it’s just me but this game seems like a repeat of halo 5 in terms of sweatiness. Don’t get me wrong, I love competition, but halo 5 went overboard by adding many abilities that contributed to the sweatiness of that game. Here, in infinite, you can more easily see the measures 343 took to ensure this game follows a similar path, and it’s worrisome. I don’t want to hop on a match of halo and start sweating my -Yoink!- off if it’s not ranked like in halo 5.

Note that I am mostly talking about BTB here although some problems hold true regardless. Another thing, it might just be me, but I’m also playing on old gen, and it is terrible. The limited 30 fps may be a contribution to this but I am going to act as if its not because halo 5 did not have this issue. Here are a few examples:

  1. Weapon sandbox: This one might not seem like an issue at first, but upon closer inspection, it’s clear that 343’s emphasis on sandbox has actually been a detriment. Every. Single. Gun. Has such a small niche that using them outside of their respective roles will get you killed most of the time. This means that you aren’t going to be using guns like the stalker rifle, commando, mangler, or -Yoink!- carbine often because the windows to use them are so small. Whereas before the dominant weapon was the br or dmr the ar is excelling right now and thank god that it is. IMO there should always be dominant utility weapon in halo, the only problem is that the ar doesn’t take as much skill as either of those 2. BTB is what suffers from this the most, it comes down to a question of “Who has the right weapon right now?” only this time there are too many possibilities.

  2. Weapon bloom, reticle, and recoil: I didn’t want to put all of these together but this post is becoming too large lol. Anyways, these are the core reasons why weapons are so niche in this game. The reticles are tiny, the bloom is exaggerated, and the weapon recoil is higher than any halo game ever. 343 answer to this was to make the kill times faster with harder to use weapons, but this is just a mistake in my eyes. The movement speeds are too fast to have such mechanics in tandem. Unfortunately I don’t really know how to fix these issues. The mechanics are so built into the game that shifting anything could create a domino effect further down the line. But there are some guns I would like to see tweaked. IMO the br could use a recoil reduction when zoomed and the commando a bloom reduction across the board.

  3. Random vehicle/weapon spawns: Probably the most universal problem for casual and competitive folks is the randomness of vehicle and weapon spawns. I guess I see what they were going for with this. It seems 343 wanted to make the matches less predictable with everyone going for br’s and other such long range weapons in BTB, but I would say it’s not working out too well. If we’re not all going to have br’s at the beginning of a match, then there must be set weapons so that at least we know the important points on the map. The same goes for vehicles. I’m sure there are patterns to their rotations but i’m too dumb to have noticed.

  4. Tiny radar: I actually forgot to add this to the list but it goes without saying that the huge maps and increased player speed demand a bigger radar. Especially when weapons like the ar and sidekick have enough range to kill you outside of 18 meters or whatever the radar range is. Pls fix

So that’s my rant. Overall i’d say the game was built with too much sweatiness in mind, and that’s saying something considering halo 5 was one of the most competitive pvp games I have ever played. And again, I love the emphasis, but given all of these factors its just a bit overwhelming. Especially when playing casual playlists. Any thoughts?

I agree with the random spawnings weapons, but they are not totally random right? It seems like power weapons spawnpoint have a theme. Så like the explosive weapons like the cindershot and spnkr have the same while skewer and sniper rifle are paired.

everything listed above is especially a problem, and not many really talk about it! people talk and complain about the microtransactions, for fair reasoning, but not many complain about the actual sandbox. they’re too filled with nostalgia to see the problems with it.

Weapon sandbox: it ain’t bad in halo, but the ballancing of the weapons makes me activially not want to use them. the starting weapons are waaay too powerful, like sure, mainline weapons need to be powerful… but this’s halo NOT COD. a fully auto AR shouldn’t be able to long range kill someone AT FULL SPREAD, it should be feathered like the old halo games. and with how the sidekick is, it makes the commando redundant, it’s a side arm, not a assualting weapon. like actually, i have no need nor reason to pick up the BR, even though that’s the dominant weapon of the game. the BR is to the DMR and is the CE Magnum, the universal weapon… and yet i see no reason to pick it up. the starting loadout is already too good. the other weapons like the pulse carbine, stalker, manger, ravager, shock rifle and sentinal beam are very fun to use… but again, i don’t pick them up because i already have a good loadout

bloom, reticle, recoil: the reticle is soo small, and sure it makes sense for certain presision weapons… but guns like the AR that should have a big reticle, is so small and thus accurate. the bloom in infinite is either too wide or not wide enough. like the commando, a slower firing full auto has more bloom after a couple shots than the FULLY AUTO ASSUALT RIFLE at full spread. the sidekick has less bloom which in turn makes the commando more useless. also for being futuristic space barbies… they really are into recoil, can’t steady their gun

randomvehicle/weapons: i think the guns/vehicles are based on the gamemode. like on firing range, where the bulldog spawns there can be the heatwave, or a plasma pistol where the mangler would be. and i’m pretty sure it varries on the gamemode… or at least is random each time a match is made, rather than a 50/50

tiny radar: yeah, fully agreed. honestly i’ve stopped using it because of how useless it is. with how quick everyone is, by the time i see someone on it, i’m already dead. a wider range is needed for it

honestly it feels WAAAY more sweaty and tryhardy now than before. halo tended to be competitive, even in casual. but Infinite really seems like every match is a comp match, like i have to tryhard. it ain’t fun as a casual… it’s almost conflicting. i mean i have no insentive to win, yet because of how the game works, i have to try in order to get things done, despite the dis-insentive of the challenges

randomvehicle/weapons: they are random. Sit and watch, you will never get the same vehicle twice.

If youre doing bad and you hear “a gift from the heavens spartan” that means the game is dropping an ordinance for you because it thinks you need it. They stated this long ago that this will happen.
Weapon boxes change from game to game. Sometimes the whole red team will have BRs on spawn and the other team only has commandos.

Its design is to cater to the lowest player so they can feel good. Not about fun gameplay. But about how someone else feels. 343 halo is the worst

it teeters more towards sucky players rather than a equal playing field and it being skilled based? wow… fweewings over ballancing… wunderbar 343

Yeah, I got back on after a 2 week vacation and noticed this yesterday. I don’t know how I feel about it though. I like that it won’t be the same thing every time, but for example, I hate when the skewer replaces the sniper on certain maps. I don’t see why both can’t be there.

Tbh I got the series s the other day and I feel this thread is not as impactful as before. These problems were simply issues I was experiencing on the og xbox one. They still exist for sure, but not at such a capacity as next gen consoles. Everything feels much smoother and predictable on the series s compared to the one.

well good for you. i’m referring to PC play. on a competent PC no less. and these issues are really bothersome

oh, it really wasn’t what I tough

Game plays well on the Xbox One.

No shot. Maybe it was just me but I found it impossible to play infinite. The terrible frame right made me feel like I was playing in the passed. Aiming felt weird thanks to it too. And some of the things listed I still feel hold up even now. The sandbox is too niche in my eyes but at least the game runs smooth on next gen lol
