Edit: Turns out it was my ancient 720p tv and base xbox combined all along. The game plays horribly on last gen. It’s disastrous.
All controversies aside, I feel like there is something that is not being spoken about enough on here (or maybe its being drowned out by controversy). Idk if it’s just me but this game seems like a repeat of halo 5 in terms of sweatiness. Don’t get me wrong, I love competition, but halo 5 went overboard by adding many abilities that contributed to the sweatiness of that game. Here, in infinite, you can more easily see the measures 343 took to ensure this game follows a similar path, and it’s worrisome. I don’t want to hop on a match of halo and start sweating my -Yoink!- off if it’s not ranked like in halo 5.
Note that I am mostly talking about BTB here although some problems hold true regardless. Another thing, it might just be me, but I’m also playing on old gen, and it is terrible. The limited 30 fps may be a contribution to this but I am going to act as if its not because halo 5 did not have this issue. Here are a few examples:
-
Weapon sandbox: This one might not seem like an issue at first, but upon closer inspection, it’s clear that 343’s emphasis on sandbox has actually been a detriment. Every. Single. Gun. Has such a small niche that using them outside of their respective roles will get you killed most of the time. This means that you aren’t going to be using guns like the stalker rifle, commando, mangler, or -Yoink!- carbine often because the windows to use them are so small. Whereas before the dominant weapon was the br or dmr the ar is excelling right now and thank god that it is. IMO there should always be dominant utility weapon in halo, the only problem is that the ar doesn’t take as much skill as either of those 2. BTB is what suffers from this the most, it comes down to a question of “Who has the right weapon right now?” only this time there are too many possibilities.
-
Weapon bloom, reticle, and recoil: I didn’t want to put all of these together but this post is becoming too large lol. Anyways, these are the core reasons why weapons are so niche in this game. The reticles are tiny, the bloom is exaggerated, and the weapon recoil is higher than any halo game ever. 343 answer to this was to make the kill times faster with harder to use weapons, but this is just a mistake in my eyes. The movement speeds are too fast to have such mechanics in tandem. Unfortunately I don’t really know how to fix these issues. The mechanics are so built into the game that shifting anything could create a domino effect further down the line. But there are some guns I would like to see tweaked. IMO the br could use a recoil reduction when zoomed and the commando a bloom reduction across the board.
-
Random vehicle/weapon spawns: Probably the most universal problem for casual and competitive folks is the randomness of vehicle and weapon spawns. I guess I see what they were going for with this. It seems 343 wanted to make the matches less predictable with everyone going for br’s and other such long range weapons in BTB, but I would say it’s not working out too well. If we’re not all going to have br’s at the beginning of a match, then there must be set weapons so that at least we know the important points on the map. The same goes for vehicles. I’m sure there are patterns to their rotations but i’m too dumb to have noticed.
-
Tiny radar: I actually forgot to add this to the list but it goes without saying that the huge maps and increased player speed demand a bigger radar. Especially when weapons like the ar and sidekick have enough range to kill you outside of 18 meters or whatever the radar range is. Pls fix
So that’s my rant. Overall i’d say the game was built with too much sweatiness in mind, and that’s saying something considering halo 5 was one of the most competitive pvp games I have ever played. And again, I love the emphasis, but given all of these factors its just a bit overwhelming. Especially when playing casual playlists. Any thoughts?
