I have a huge confession to make

Ah yes, I forgot that the beam is considered a SMG. Tank you

It’s a great one-on-one weapon at the right range. It’s easy to get burned if you’re not careful since it relies on super-combine… can’t team-shot or finish people off with it. Needs good communication, but it’s definitely a tier 2 gun.

Drop combo barely improves TTK and effectively requires an elite controller I don’t have. Doesn’t seem to have affected my ability to compete in ranked and none of the people I play with (well, used to, before they all quit) use it.

Unpopular opinion, I love the Disrupter Pistol, it just has a inconsistent DoT & Damage problem which needs to be fixed

I’m becoming a big fan of the disruptor pistol. The impact of having someone’s shields take a touch longer to start recharging can give an extra moment to push the objective or take control of the map.

i mean, fair, but i think more people would love it if it worked. It’s like… The disruptor AS IT IS is broken, so it’s fair to say that people don’t like the disruptor AS IT IS. Fix it, and yeah, might change.

For a long time I thought Infinite’s Needler was pretty solid.

Then, via the in game medals, I found out 343 classified the Needler as an SMG. Ever since then, I’ve found it to be a great pickup!

It also makes me wonder if the Needler has always been an SMG and i just never realised it

Sorry but What do you mean by ‘drop combo’ ?

Needler doesnt go well with the BR, IMO. You need to land most of the clip and if you dont you’ll most likely lose the gunfight.

that’s because it directly counters the BR in close-mid range

It kills over half a second faster, that’s not just a negligible difference.

It doesn’t combo well with the BR because its strong on its own

Drop combo is using a weapon to drop the shields of your target, followed up by purposefully dropping the weapon (either button mapped or Hold Swap) to switch to BR faster.

I mentioned it as one of the reasons why Needler isn’t popular because Needler is pretty much a self-contained weapon on its own that doesn’t really combo with anything and requires most of your shots to connect, something Desync also messes with.

Regardless of how the Needler theoratically performs, how it functions in practice just doesn’t hold up to expectations hence the reason why Needler isn’t too popular a weapon.

The Needler is partly how I’m in the top 2.5% in the world right now in doubles. It’s a 1:1 powerhouse that people can’t counter if they don’t have a thruster. It’s free real estate.

If people aren’t using it then it’s because they don’t realize how good it actually is, or are hardheaded about using it since it’s always been considered low class or insulting to pick one up in serious games.

I promise, try it out

I liked the Needler a lot in both Halo Reach and 4. Admittedly didn’t play 5 long enough to get a feel for it. And before Halo Reach it was always just a subpar novelty weapon. Infinite’s feels pretty good, but as you said super situational and not too useful in AR starts where players can just mow you down for a trade or worse very easily.

I leaned on the Needler a lot to get to Onyx in doubles. It combos godly with either camo or OS and is basically 2-3 free kills every time you pick it up.

This is not a confession.

The Needler genuinely is nearly a power weapon. As long as you can fire at least half a clip if not more, it’s a guaranteed kill every single time.

It doesn’t get talked about nearly enough online but it’s one of the most powerful weapons in the game, it’s almost as powerful as the Bulldog or dare I say the Sword.

TTK is slow which is what holds it back, but it will net you a kill every single time if you have the time to fire the right amount of shots because;

  1. Fast fire rate
  2. Quick reload
  3. Supercombine has splash damage

It just takes a lot of needles to super combine, but aside form that it’s honestly OP.

I dont win many gunfights with it because others seem to kill me faster, with say the BR. The needler is only really effective for me if i get the drop on the other guy first. But i do agree, when its on point its hard to survive a clip of the pink mist.

I think it’s only significant drawback is ammo capacity. Realistically it’s only good for about 3 kills if you’re lucky, although you can get 4 if you’re not missing. The other tier 2 weapons have more staying power and versatility simply by having more ammo efficiency.

But in something like doubles, the gun does a great job in its niche

That would be broken AF.

It is the weapon of a trained assassin, not a warrior.

You know, with huge pink explosions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ay3xrExnF14

well… sorta. sorta yes, sorta no.

As it stands, needler doesn’t take enemy shields down. So if you run out of ammo or have to reload and the needles you’ve already put in them disappear, it doesn’t have much of an effect on further efforts. This also means meleeing an enemy with the needler if you run out of ammo is about the same as meleeing an enemy you haven’t shot at all.

If you think it’d help balance it, it could turn on friendly fire if you melee jam the needles in them. : P

ALSO, it makes it a potential melee range sword counter.

People have been asking for this to be a thing since CE actually, the main animation even serves it.

At the very least it’s silly that it doesn’t do bonus melee damage like a brute weapon
