I have a dream...

i have a dream. that one day, a Halo game will not be judged by its graphics, the inclusion/exclusion of armor abilities, or the inclusion of fall damage, but by the content of its story.

just a little something i thought of right now. people need to stop hating on Reach or Halo 3, and not worry about what Halo 4 will be like. just be happy that there IS a halo 4. i never picked up a halo game for its gameplay or graphics, but its captivating, vast, and mysterious storyline. i dont know why others play Halo, and its none of my business to tell them their wrong, but i just think people should just appriciate Halo games for what they are.

first paragraph inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech, I Have A Dream. (for those of you who didnt know)

The day people appreciate something for what it is, is the day… Well, actually, there’s nothing so absurd as that happening! But yeah, I would take an awesome story over an awesome multiplayer any day.

> i have a dream. that one day, a Halo game will not be judged by its graphics, the inclusion/exclusion of armor abilities, or the inclusion of fall damage, but by the content of its story.

There’s nothing wrong about wanting games to improve.
Now some people go to far with their complaints yes. But without reasonable complaints…nothing is ever improved.
You’re just stuck with the same old same old.

But myself I love the story and I buy the game for the story. But you know what keeps me playing it? The MP and it better have a darn good one.

Tho I must say nice use of the “I HAVE A DREAM” speech.

> first paragraph inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech, I Have A Dream. (for those of you who didnt know)

I feel sorry for the ones who didn’t know…

It’s a game so the gameplay is always going to be an important factor. That said, I’m a huge story buff and that’s one of the reasons I play Halo. It’s also one of the reasons I was disappointed by Reach. Halo games have rarely had great story telling. For the most part, the original trilogy took all three games to really make me care about the characters. Each of the first three games had something that saved it though. Halo CE was filled with mystery, it was a brand new world and 343 Gulity Spark was a saving grace. Halo 2 had the Arbiter’s story, this is one of the only times a character has been well rounded in the same game they were introduced. Halo 3 had all the build up of Halo CE and 2, the characters had been developed and finally everything came to fruition. ODST was alright but I didn’t really feel for most of the characters. Reach, it took three play throughs for Noble Team to feel like anything but standard character templates. Overall the story was very predictable. I’m hoping that 343 will do a better job of story telling than Bungie did.

Games are about gameplay - AAs, falldamage heavily influence gameplay. If you want story i suggest the novels or even the motion comics. In comparison halo games are poor story tellrs. So gameplay> story.

We complain about H3 and reach becuase we dont want to see bad parts of those games in future halos. If you dont complain you are never heard. There is no point in being “just happy H4 is coming out” of course H4 is coming out, halo is the biggest exclusive on any system. MS and 343 would be out of their mind not to cash in on it.

Once again go read the books, they make the story in the games look like cave paintings compared to shakespear. Halo games are just that games. Halo Books are stories. Halo games should be about gameplay and halo books should be about story. Not to say a nice story in a halo game isnt appreciated but i havent logged hours in halo for story and i dont think the majority have either.

ive already read the books. but people say game canon > novel/comic canon.

im just saying people need to stop hating on different games. reach fans hate on halo 3, and vice versa. theyre all halo games, right? i think we should just let Halo 4 be Halo 4, and no more of this “halo 4 should be like…”

I get what you are tryign to say and i respect the core of it, but i disagree.

No they are not all halo games, many halo fans wouldnt even call Halo reach, halo. Just Reach or even worse Reach or reacharound. People hate on those games for many valid reasons since those games had many flaws which could be fixed in H4.

I dont want to “let H4 be H4” I want a REAL halo game, liek the halo I fell in love with in 2001. If i see invincibility buttons and bloom like in reach it would seriously hurt my enjoyment of the game. Just liek if h4 has a poor weapon design like H3 with bunches of useless weapons it will hurt my fun.

Basicall;y all those who complain just want what they believe is best for halo and want to enjoy the game to the maximum.

Halo games are products and any company worth their salt listens to its consumers so they can give them what they want. They make this forum so they can get an idea of what their customers want in a product they are going to sell us.

For me Halo is a HUGE hobby. I dont “game” im not a “gamer” im a halo player/fan. I want my hobby to be fun and be loved by many as it was CE-H3. So I want to do my best and help the company see what should be done with teh game. Lord knows i dont want to see another armor lock.

I have a dream that one day my K/D ratio will be positive and my online opponents will learn to fear me.

One of the fascinating aspects of Halo to me is that the Halo Universe is so deep. It is something that you cannot find in many other game franchises. Yes, the books may not exactly match the games in terms of some details, but if you look past those discrepancies there is a lot of fantastic stories that have been created.

I think the allure of the Halo universe is quite appealing to many and that is why we are so drawn to the stories told in both the games and in other mediums.

> first paragraph inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech, I Have A Dream. (for those of you who didnt know)

Since seeing Scary Movie 3 I’m reminded of This
But Yeah Story Matters more then Graphics, in my opinion

I hate it when people think multiplayer is the only part of a video game, there should be so much more than just a somewhat decent multiplayer. In some cases in which the focus is on a multiplayer that isn’t even that good cough CoD cough. Who said that?

i agree with you to an extent… if bungie didnt let CE be CE, it wouldve ended up like all the other FPS out at the time; bland. what puts (or used to put) Halo ahead of the pack is innovation. not trying to please or quell the players. i want Halo 4 to of course, “be Halo”, but at the same, be different. like… i want Halo 4 to be to Halo Reach as Halo 2 was to CE. (not sure if you can understand that, i tried to word it as best i could). and theres a difference between complaining and whining, and constructive suggestions.

I used to play Halo for it’s story line, then I took a Halo 3 in the knee.

Let’s face it, the quality of Halo’s story ended the day Halo 3 came out. Ever since then the only “close” hits we’ve had came from a couple of the stories in Evolutions. Legends was god awful, ODST and Reach didn’t even live up to Halo 3, much less the rest of the series. The Forerunner Saga is going nowhere fast. And unless 343 releases good story with Halo 4, I’ll lose all interest in the fiction of the saga.

Halo is amazing because it is fun. At least that’s how I used to think, when I was playing Halo 2. I’m starting to wonder why I even bother with Halo anymore…

Which is why Halo 4 is the last chance the series has. New developer means I can be ignorant of Bungie’s mistakes since 2007, and judge the future of the franchise on this completely fresh start.

well put, my friend… well put.

> The day people appreciate something for what it is, is the day… Well, actually, there’s nothing so absurd as that happening! But yeah, I would take an awesome story over an awesome multiplayer any day.

An awesome Multiplayer IS an Awesome Story. Halo 2’s Multiplayer was unlike any Campaign story ever told, and more like ginormous Epic Story in which millions of gamers all participated in. For that brief moment in our history we were all united as one under the same goal, to achieve victory with not only just your BR but with your fellow Spartan brothers. Many Glorious Battles won, Many Glorious Battles lost, but they were all in fact Glorious Battles. No Campaign story will ever make millions feel more united and part of a family like Halo 2’s Multiplayer.

Remember the Fight, Remember the Glory, Remember the Brotherhood…Remember…Halo 2. :,(

So if the gameplay was total crap and the story was above average to amazing, it would be a good game?

The horrible game mechanics would deter me away from the storyline.

These people are members, members who have registered up to halo waypoint to share their inspiring and imaginative opinions and ideas and who simply discuss what they believe and the majority’s opinion creates the final product, almost always. Members are simply not hating on Reach but trying to set in line something to learn from, something for 343 Industries to understand, and I agree with most of it. You cannot just expect people to stop complaining about something because you believe there is no problem with anything in any of Halo’s development. Ofcourse there will always be flaws and problems but if we didn’t have a community to pick them out the game would be built randomly everytime, maybe even start a new sequel without Chief that just happens to be one of the most popular characters from games of all time.

I do however agree with you that members should stop complaining about the flaws in Reach but that’s natural.

I have a dream that members can share and discuss their idea’s and opinions without other members holding them back; and that’s exactly what you want.

i have no problem with discussion and constructive criticism. i have a problem with the constant whining and complaining, and threads that just say “UHHHHHH BLOOM SUX DUUURRRRR DERP”

Then 343 industries wouldn’t know the impact these modifications in Reach have made on the community, one or two threads on a topic most likely won’t phase them.

> but by the content of its story.

If you care about the success of the Halo franchise, you better hope that people don’t judge the game in that respect.
