I hated the story, especially the end...

Second time playing through the game, first time was for fun beat the game in like 4hours on 4 player co-op.

This time I got the Long Wolf Achievement, so I actually watched the cutscenes and such from start to finish.

So…

From my poor memory:
The Forerunners rebelled against the Prescursors, and then the Forerunners took over the Galaxy, and watched over and protected the evolution of life between species. They believed in peace so they gave up their weapons. Then the flood came, and started eating everything, so the Forerunners decided to Nuke the Galaxy with the Halo Rings and preserve life through data samples, robots, and embryos that were redistributed which recreated all the life once again on the living planets.

The “Didact” was a Forerunner who was against building the Halo Rings, and thought it was a “sin”. He believed instead everyone should just be converted into cyborgs. Prometheans. Well he was left on some flood infested planet, and locked away or something.

So Halo 4, he wakes up, finds his weapon, and tries to destroy/turn humanity into cyborgs.

Meanwhile, the only person who knows about this seems to be Cortana, and Master Chief, and Cortana is degrading while on her period.

Also, for some unknown reason the Aliens are against you, and want the Didact to do it’s thing, even though I thought humans and the covenent made peace in Halo 3…

oh well…so basically no one knows what Master Chief is doing, and he meets the Librarian (Wife of Didact), so apparently some forerunners were kept alive. She gives you unknown powers, and it seems “evolve” master chief into something that can’t be converted into a Promethean.

->>> Skipping to the end. Didact gets his weapon/spaceship, and fires it at Earth destroying a large city. At the same time MC is like “I got a nuke” and the Didact tries to stop him, but then Cortana goes all crazy mode, and MC goes all crazy mode, and the Didact falls off onto Earth, and the MC goes suicidal blows himself up, but Cortana “mysteriously” shields him and touches his chest, cuz she loves him so much.

Then…Master Chief is like i don’t care, do what i gotta do, and the Commander is like humans and machines are different, and MC is all like “hmm that’s what Cortana said”, and then Master Chief gets his armor taken off, and removed his helmet, and you see his eyes. The end.

So since everyone keeps calling him a machine, he was genetically enhanced, and the Librarian said he’s one of the special seeds, perhaps Masterchief is somehow a Forerunner who had more of his “powers” unlocked with the Librarians genetic gift of whatever.

and I don’t understand the whole love story between Master Chief, and his robot girl. Guess that’s just a guys fantasy. To have a hot chick inside you all the time. But eh, Master Chief didn’t really care that she died, he’s just like “Let’s do this” Boom Boom Rocket.

Conclusion:

This entire genre is very similar to Dragon Ball Z
Goku = Master Chief
Goku as a baby sent to “Earth” raised as a human, while “almost” his entire race and many others were wiped out by Frieza/Flood.
Than the few saiyans that remain come back and tell him he’s a super saiyan, and there’s only a few super saiyans.

^ Basically what the Librarian told Master Chief.

Also, since Master Chief never takes his gear off, never goes to the bathroom, doesn’t care about much, does not age, and is Godlike, it would appear that he is some Forerunner who began as a Manipular, and perhaps the Librarian evolved him to the first form.

Besides the point, Halo 5 will be on Earth, most likely fighting Prometheans and the Didact again, and hopefully the flood will return, so it’ll be like robots vs Zombies vs Master Chief.

omfg lol, you are funny as hell! xD Really enjoyed that last bit

What did I just read?

I dislike Halo 4 because it took a dump on previously established canon and created a love story that never existed.

I really enjoyed this post…

The Didact believes Humans are a threat to peace in the galaxy so he wishes to enslave them. Which still doesn’t really make sense because he supposedly believes entirely in the mantle, but whatever.

The covenant made peace with the humans because they had to. While some got over the war, some others were still bitter and were convinced to restart their war against the humans because of recent events after the war.

> I dislike Halo 4 because it took a dump on previously established canon and created a love story that never existed.

Its not a romantic love its a friendship/respect love. That bond was always there just not as in your face like it is now. However understandable considering whats happening to them.

When 343 hired novelists to retcon the fact that humans are the forerunners, I just about had it. But when I discovered it was all for this turd on a stick, I…sigh.

> Meanwhile, the only person who knows about this seems to be Cortana, and Master Chief, and Cortana is degrading while on her period.

Everytime I say that Cortana’s character in halo 4 is a sexist exageration of a woman on PMS the fan boys emo rage. Finally some one gets it, if not the sexist part.

Edit: By the way op, you do know you have invited the wrath of over 9000 fanboys…they are coming…

I don’t really think one could call it sexist or anything to that nature as rampancy has been defined and explored for ages now. Well before Halo 4. Anyone familiar with it knew what to expect.

I’m pretty sure this thread will get locked for spoilers uh oh, Master Chief is Goku guys

Haha. I never really cared for the story of any of the Halo’s, I just like Master Chief and the Arbitor. I also like the slow paced, unique action, and the vibrant colors. (Even though Halo 4 was just filled with too many MAX brightness neon lights on some levels. I also like the whole “Alien invasion” theme, and stories that try to answer philosophical questions like, “is life out there?” “what was before us?” “how did we come to be?” “what is out purpose?” “why would aliens attack?” These questions revolve around this series.

and Yes, I don’t like the sexism or ever cared for Cortana or the “-Yoink!- jokes” that come up in every Halo game. Reminds me of this Megaman game were every time you would log in, instead of “log in” it was “jack in”, so constantly people in the game were like “come on Megaman let’s Jack in, what are you waiting for, everyone doing it, jack in!”

I really don’t want to retread this argument, so I am just going to say my bit then go to bed.

I am very familiar with rampancy, but did not expect A exaggerated PMS. Cortana’s rampancy was portrayed more like lunacy in halo 3, and in no way similar to her behaviour in halo 4.

Before you say that she wasn’t rampant in halo 3, in a way she was. They flirted with the possibility that her interaction with the gravemind was driving her rampant (the inspiration for mendicant bias). She was boarder line rampant until the chief saved her.

More importantly however, many AI’s in the series have been rampant, all of which have a male persona. None of these where ever depicted in such a degrading, over emotional way, unlike cortana. Its no coincidence that this is the case given that cortana is female and that women have been betrayed this way by male writers throughout history.

The jokes about Cortana PMSing are as old the introductions of the concept of rampancy. I don’t see how it is sexist at all. Especially given they share similarities.

What about the monkeys?

I really can’t imagine the source of these jokes. What is it about rampancy, other than halo 4, that is similar to a period. It always seemed more like insanity to me.

Exactly this.

> I dislike Halo 4 because it took a dump on previously established canon and created a love story that never existed.

There was Platonic love, at least. Cortana’s line at the end of Halo 2…

“Don’t make a girl a promise, if you know you can’t keep it.”

It was sweet. And Cortana’s reaction when we find her in Halo 3 and when she lights up when Chief “keeps his promise…” OMG I felt so good during that scene.

And just because Cortana wanted to always touch the Chief doesn’t mean it was sexual, she just wanted to physically touch him because it was something she could never do.

> I really can’t imagine the source of these jokes. What is it about rampancy, other than halo 4, that is similar to a period. It always seemed more like insanity to me.

It’s just because she’s a naked girl, and in Halo 3 she was moaning half the game. At least this time it was more like Dead Space, instead of moaning she was going crazy. :stuck_out_tongue:

What! some of the things she said in halo 3 (see the mission: Cortana) where -Yoink- insane! Halo 4, we have an emotional wreck of a woman.

> I dislike Halo 4 because it took a dump on previously established canon and created a love story that never existed.

You loose your best friend, almost Brother. Would you be happy? Yeah. Were you expecting Master Chief to be without any feelings towards loosing the only person he actually is in confidence with?
