Everyone I know has zero problems with this commendations. They just breeze through it. Eveybody loves to gun for them.
But not me.
Nobody will ever gun for me. You wanna know how bad it’s gotten? People regularly choose to betray me with a plasma grenade rather than let me drive them around in a Warthog and help them get kills. It’s even worse for the Falcon. I was once in a game just sitting in the Falcon waiting for someone to hop in a gunner. Some guy runs up to my Falcon hops on top and jumps on the propeller. It says I betrayed him. WTF? 30 seconds later I hear jetpacking behind me and the same guy lands right on the propeller and gets “betrayed” again. At that point I hopped out and blew up the Falcon.
I know I’m not a bad driver. I’ve gotten 2 Road Rage medals (Running Riot of Wheelmans) and plenty of Road Hog medals (Killing Frenzy of Wheelmans). I finally conviced a friend to join me for one game of BTB Slayer a while ago. He got 40 KILLS just from me driving him around in a Warthog. We took down TWO Banshees without getting hit once.
I saw that it would take 750 to get that commendation to silver. I thought, “Ok let’s do this!” I had to work my -Yoink- off to get gunners that wouldn’t just spin in circles firing into the air. I was only getting one or two Wheelmans a game. After an unbelievable amount of stressful work I finally got the commendation to rank up. Then what do I see?
750/4000 until gold
Now I can’t even stand to look at that commendation.
What am I doing wrong? Why do people hate me as a driver?
I only have one suggestion that you didn’t mention. Get a mic and try talking to people who are actively talking.
I don’t drive/shoot with another team mate unless they have a mic, not in party chat, and talking maturely. Most of all, someone who can work as a team. I haven’t gotten in a warthog in a long time before last night, only because my teammate asked for a driver and I knew he was working as a team. (And he unmuted me so we could at least talk. I hate random mute bans.)

lol I feel for ya. I’ve had this problem as well. You’re going to get more kills gunning for me than running around on foot so get in my warthog!

I’ll use my mic more. I wish my gunner would too though. I’d rather drive anyone on my team instead that one of seven that has a mic.

I loved the commendation. me and my friend would always drive a warthog in Halo 3, he’d only want gunner, I only wanted to drive. I couldn’t care less about K/D spread, so I loved driving, and got pretty darn good at it.
when I saw a “comendation” for him getting me kills in reach, I was happy. we did are usual thing, he had to slow down cause the turret overheats but we still managed to get a killing frenzy or better every time we stepped in a warthog.
having a friend to help you out is the ideal way to drive vehicles. I’d say I’m better at driving the Warthog then 90% of the players I see, and yet, I let them drive me instead, cause they REALLY want to drive. I often just sigh when we get blown up within 15-30 seconds because they chose do drive straight into the fray and drive in circles. It’s the worst when they just get up out of the hog and leave me as a stationary turret with no driver so they can go run around and get shot by a group of 3 enemies, but eh, oh well.
as long as I play with my friend, I know my chances of driving are much greater.
Drivers that just randomly ask someone to gun for them are incredibly annoying.
In fact, in the last game I’ve played, the idiotic honking driver gave away my position to the other team’s sniper and almost cost me the game. Safe to say I betrayed the moron.
I gave up with Warthogs when searching with randoms a while ago. Everyone just rushes tank or sniper and you end up sitting around doing nothing. Now I just go for the other team’s sniper.

t hate wheelman, I like to drive, as long as my gunners are good. sometimes though I would like to gun so I can get kills.
I LOVE the 'hog (check my Halo 3 stats if you’d like proof), but not in Reach multi. The Halo 3 'hog was just right, but the Reach version is made of glass. It blows up WAY too fast and the gun overheat is terribly annoying. Plus, snipers are the bane of its existence, which I feel is just limited.
That’s why I don’t hop in when you’re honking at me.
