Not that big of a deal but it doesn’t look futuristic.
To be honest, I’m not sure how futuristic you can make a shotgun look. A shotgun is a shotgun, if you know what I mean…
When has Halo ever looked/been futuristic?
> Not that big of a deal but it doesn’t look futuristic.
Oh how I do have to disagree with you. The Halo 4 shotty blast looks awesome!
The Halo 4 shotty is one hell of a boomstick.
In “reality”, the shotgun is a weapon that is nearly 100% ineffective as a killer against Spartans. It’s a great shield dropper but it doesn’t penetrate armour plating or diamond woven carbon nanofibres due to the pellets being large and round.
But that’s lore, this is gameplay. The shotgun’s combination of sound, recoil, time between shots and range for both 1SK’s and 2SK’s makes the H4 shotty argueably the best shotgun in Halo next to the CE variant.
And the sound of the thing from a distance… DAMN!!! It sounds like someone is unloading Hell-shot. It just sounds sooo heavy and damaging from any distance but at distance it shines the most (ironically, but this is sound I’m boasting right now).
Look-wise, I honestly would like to see some iron sights added but I imagine this weapon is UNSC personal purposed, not just civilian+armed forces… What do we need iron sights for? The thing relays the “sight” optimally through our neural and HUD interfaces.
All-in-all, it’s a beast of a weapon.
I wouldn’t go as far as saying that I hate it. The shotgun in Halo 4 is very powerful and it performs well in most, if not all close quarters situations.
It definitely isn’t the best looking compared how it looked in past Halo titles though. Still, looks aren’t everything.
Performance>Appearance
I like the new look, and definetly love to use it.
The shotgun and the general UNSC weaponry in Halo 4 lived up to its expectations. I found that the new design and sound has a very powerful and distinct boom to it. However, the Covenant weaponry was a bit disappointing…
Works as a Shotgun should IMO. It’s a shame the Boltshot beats it (crazy!).
The Halo:Reach shotgun design was easily my favorite. I don’t why they didn’t just reuse that design, there was no reason to change it.
I mean, they pretty much re-used the old Assault Rifle design from Halo 3, so why did they have to change the Shotgun?
I like the range of the H4 shotgun I just don’t like the rate of fire. I don’t care how it looks.
I can deal with it, design doesn’t matter
TBH, i don’t like the Shotgun in this game. I liked the one from Reach, though.

gasp how dare you speak that name!!!
Lol I’m kidding. I like the shotgun all around in this game. Feels like a boomstick to me!

I think that started around Halo: Combat Evolved… I could be wrong though.
There really isn’t much that can be done to revolutionize the shotgun. It’s probably one of the simplest weapons as far as design goes, and it always has been. While it would be inaccurate to say that it hasnt evolved, The design and functionality for it in the real world has gone virtually unchanged for centuries. It’s reliable and consistent.

Same with the sniper which is god aweful now, but at least we have a beam rifle
I enjoy the shotgun in every Halo and pretty much every game in general. I’m glad it’s effective range has been increased because I would always look like an idiot in Halo 3 trying to use it beyond its “arms-length” range.
Rate of fire seems alright to me.
As far as looks go, what exactly do you want? It’s a big 8-gauge tube with a pump on the bottom. At least the shot gun has the unnecessary (personal opinion) boxy cover on top of it.
The only thing I can honestly say I don’t like about the Halo 4 shotgun is the sound. The paper bag/low-pitched balloon popping sound of the shotgun ranks up there with the broken clutch sound of the Halo 4 warthog in terms of sounds I don’t like in this game.
Looks more futuristic than any other shotgun I’ve seen before. Its reduced stopping power and range is what I don’t like, but at least its better than the H3 shotgun.
I like it, it’s the only shotgun i’ve liked since halo 2
