I Hate The Fact That This Game Will Be Good One Day

And it will eventually be good one day. Microsoft would never give up on their flagship title. Forge will arrive soon, and all the other missing pieces that we’re begging for won’t be long to follow.

Don’t get me wrong here, it’s what we all want and deserve. But I hate that this has become the standard for 343. I hate that loyal fans get the middle finger for this business to try and run the pockets of cash cows with too much money. I hate the fact that most of my friends who were so excited to play Halo: Infinite at launch quit the game in less than a few weeks time. I hate that what we were given is a mess of a netcode that at the worst of times makes the game unplayable, and at the best of times leaves you wondering if you’re simply playing poorly or if the game has some how punished you just for trying to enjoy it. I hate that we as a community have to deal with all of that, and when we come here to vent our frustrations, we pretty much end up feeling unheard. I hate that, instead of engaging in healthy communication with the fanbase, 343 tries to pass off lies and gaslight an entire community. Or better yet, stay completely silent on some of the most egregious problems with the game.

So when I say I hate that the game will be good one day, this is what I mean. I hate the fact that they put us through all of that, still are putting us through all of that, and have put us through this process with almost every single game release they’ve had. We shouldn’t have to go through this just for being fans of this, yes, amazing sci-fi series.

Before I get off this soapbox, I just want to remind everyone to think of these things next time they think about giving 343 some of their money for a shiny new helmet. I may not convince anyone with this, but just know that I said I wouldn’t spend a dime on this game until they fixed it up correctly, and I have stuck to my guns. I still do not plan on buying a single thing from the store until many of the glaring issues get fixed. But at this point, I’m sure I’ll still be incredibly sparing with how much I’m willing to pay and why. And I hope everyone remembers all of these things before they make their purchases, as well.

P.S. And most people might not agree with me, but when I say this game will be good one day, the campaign storyline never will be. Not unless they scrap every bit of lore they’ve established after Halo 3 and start from scratch. It’s like they are having some competition to make the worst plots to ever be put in a FPS Sci-Fi shooter. But at least the open world and grappling hook were a decent bit of fun, this time around.

Going off your title,

Not if 343 stays on the same path they’re on right now, especially with all the issues infinite has that is out of 343 control that things are just piling up…

One could easily be years

I’m sure it could still be 1-2 years out, but we will have a fully functioning and fun to play Halo game, eventually. They’re currently pushing co-op campaign out the door. Forge will be coming sometime soon as well, and with that brings functional custom games. The desync has, after months of silence on the matter, been addressed. They didn’t give any timelines for it, but they said they’ll be working on it after they can figure out Forge and co-op. I’m still incredibly frustrated at the fact that they seem determined to stand upon the hill that is predatorily wringing their fan bases wallets, but that has no real affect on the aspect of fun gameplay. So I mean, eventually we’ll have a good game, but I’ll still be incredibly salty about everything.

Will start with Co-Op and see how that plays out because it took them this long even just to test it, and they have a lot of issues to deal with so who knows when Co-Op will be working properly.

I don’t even think this “game” will last long. With the way it continues to permanently lose players, it will NOT last 18 months, let alone 10 years. Plus, the “open world” doesn’t even feel open at all - every area looks exactly the same, and there wasn’t even much to do. Halo MIDfinite singlehandedly has the WORST campaign of not just any Halo, but ANY game I have ever played. It especially hurts that SO MANY people overrate it to death just because of the open world or because it’s all Chief!

I relate. They don’t exactly deserve a W after all this.

This sentiment - accurate and fair. Thanks for expressing it.

Probably the worst part of everything is how it’s easier to retain players, than to win them back. All those people that infinite lost in the earlier months - i think most of them have said their goodbyes permanently.

We’re left with a much smaller player base, and no matter how great the game gets, we’ll continue to have poor match making experiences. Our only hope is that matchmaking doesn’t reach past a point of unplayable. They really should have released this game a year or two later.

I do agree with this. In 3 years this game will be awesome. We just need to withhold rewarding 343 with this. I bought the 1season pass to get my recon helmet. (Which looks f***in goofy) and won’t buy anything else. I play on game pass and won’t purchase it for my Xbox.

It will be too late for some. I already feel burned and only one of my group still plays.

It’s like Cyberpunk to me now. I was extremely excited for the game, but now have no desire to play it… Even though it’s been improved.

Agree with you except I liked this campaign.

I respect the fact that you’ve not gone back against your word, and that you’re still sticking it out with Infinite. But also respect in general for the post you’ve made.

Though I will say, I do disagree with scrapping all their storylines. Since that’s basically what Infinite is trying, subracting rather than adding given how much of 5’s story pieces they tried to remove. “What happened to the Created, I’d love to fight them some more, or learn more!” “Oh they’re gone.” “oh… Well, I can’t wait to see what the Infinity and all of it’s staff does against the Banished!” “Oh they failed” “…oh… Well, at least we can see what happened with Cortana, but don’t worry you now have NuCortana, the Weapon!” “…Ok hold the hecking phone-”
Point is, giving a middle finger to Reclaimer fans didn’t do it any favors. From what I know.

Find me another example in all of business that a company over-promised and under-delivered worse than 343 with Halo Infinite?

You can’t.

I find it absolutely mind-boggling the brass of 343 have been able to remain in their positions after what they have done to this franchise.

Just because Microsoft wants it to succeed doesn’t mean it will; they tried forcing Gears 5 towards being a killer 1st party game after it’s poor initial reception, and despite all the improvements the game still died. Infinite will probably meet a similar fate.

Infinite will never actually be good, if anything it will get to the point of “mediocre at best” before support gets cut.

Not true. Halo 5 is starting to get a resurgence. People loved 5’s multiplayer and hated it’s campaign. Hell I’d argue 5 is more popular now than it’s ever been before.

I didn’t hate Halo 5’s campaign. Sure, the story may have been mediocre at best, but that didn’t put me off from (re)playing it. I don’t really even mind not being able to play more than 3 missions as Chief since I find myself enjoying Buck more and more (after all, he has been my announcer since my first week of playing Halo 5 - I started playing on January 29, 2018).

I really can’t wait for the inevitable massive resurgence of Halo 5 and its inevitable PC port. No more excuses can be made for not bringing it to PC.
