I know, very unpopular opinion lately /sarcasm. Okay seriously, I’m not here to burn 343 at the stake, but it does baffle me that there isn’t a dedicated Slayer playlist. Y’know, sorta like what Reach had with Slayer and SWAT game modes?
It’s not just that I only want to play one game mode ever, but people do have a different mentality when playing deathmatch vs. objective style matches. Those two styles don’t mix well together. Then you have an altogether different problem where people can play objective games, but won’t. Basically the person who doesn’t escort or help with objective but it focused on kill count.
I can understand these playlists for when the trial first came out since they needed a large playgroup to test all the features, but on the full release people aren’t going to be happy being forced to play game modes they don’t like. Past games did this by offering an objective playlist and a slayer playlist.
Okay I do like objective games every now and then to break the repetition. However I have always played slayer 80% of the time. Now I’m probably playing it only 20% of the time.
I like objectives. I’d be good with a slayer/strongholds playlist. The moment you make a slayer only playlist the others die on spawn and it’s hard to get a competitive game that isnt completely one sided except maybe on weekends. To many no mic solo rushers in team slayer. Put a skilled team in and the moment they get the power weapons the game has already been decided from jump. Objectives are the truth
Objective game types are a blast when you aren’t worried about completing objective based challenges just to rank up. 16 player CTF is a blast on Coagulation, Death Canyon, and even Bigаss v2.104 from Custom Edition.
I would not mind the mixed mode(as much) if slayer was weighted more to offset the 3 other modes. TDM modes are my thing no matter what the game. Halo specifically does them well and has a decent variety with how to handle them (shotty/snipe, SWAT, fiesta, the list goes on)
In the past hour I played 5 matches of…oddball. Every single game turns into the carrying team camping in a hallway/tower and it is incredible boring. Every match devolves into alternating grenade spam.
CTF either is an instant win to a good team or an endless stalemate, the last CTF match I played went to over time and still ended in a draw, 20 something minutes (all for 50 xp) of a mode I don’t like on a map I hate.
That’s great that people like objectives. A lot of other people don’t though, and others REALLY don’t. These are your throwers, quiters, and…well just less skilled gametype players. They’re forced into a game that they don’t like. How does that help anyone?
343 wants to design a game in a way that doesn’t make game modes obsolete, okay fine. But let’s not find a solution at other player’s expense.
