During Halo 3s 9th birthday I went back on the MCC and had a few games of halo 2 and 3, then later played a bit of reach. Coming back on H5 i realise how unpolished, buggy and just plain terrible the mechanics are like the player movement, destruction, vehicles, weapons. Its awful! Like WZF enemies have like 100% accuracy and vehicles are indestructible! It actually fuels my anger for this game. The games art style looks awful too, have you seen the new battlefield and COD even gears. They look great, -Yoink- even halo 3 looks better than 5. 343 has changed halos identity. What even is this game anymore.
( Love from a classic fan )
I’ll tell you what this game is. It’s another COD/Battlefiled/Destiny/Titanfall rip off. Sprint and ads don’t belong in a halo game. There are VERY few unique fps out in the market and what made the original games popular was that they differed from other games and it worked really well. And yea, enemy accuracy and sheer strength frustrates me. The art style is so bad that the battle rifle looks almost unrecogniseable compared to the original. In Act Mans video on Warzone Firefigtht bugs and glitches a player is killed by a banshee boss in 22 frames which is about 1/3rd of a second, wtf?
Art style of the original trilogy will always be superior. I can’t stand oversized power packs, no codpieces, colored undersuits, and some of the weapons.
Although I admit the admiration for the clasics art style can be subjective, I do think that it is superior and a bit more defined.
That’s not to say the new art style is bad, but it is a completely different take on an already existsing style.
I’ve been a fan since Halo 3 and I’ve got to say Halo 5 is one of the best Halo games yet. IMO it has that classic Halo feel while incorporating new elements (such as thrusters) which give an added depth to movement.
I don’t have any strong feelings about sprint tbh, I think I’d prefer to see it go of thrusters stayed, but I wouldn’t mind if it’s in the next game.
Spartan charge and ground pound are awful though.

Thrusters and sprint do not belong in a halo game. In halo 3 if you’re being shot from behind then you can just face your opponent and attempt to outsmart him/her when in halo 5 you can just run for cover like a little -Yoink-. The Spartan abilities give halo a modern touch by turning it into a generic fps rather than a halo game. How does halo 5 look and feel like a halo game? The only “HALO” thing about halo 5 is that it has the name halo on the cover. The only Spartan ability that should stay should be clambering. The rest don’t belong in a halo game. Oh did I forget to mention the story…
I went back to MCC when it launched and couldn’t help but feel H3 aged horribly, worse than any other game in the franchise. The available armors are the weakest of the franchise. The weapon sandbox is the least consistent and least diverse. The mechanics are rooooough. I loved that game in its time but H5 beats H3 on so many fronts, fixing the things that didn’t work and magnifying the things that did work.
(a different opinion from a classic fan)

I don’t like H5 much and I partially agree with this. H3 MLG settings were the best however because it wasn’t so slow.
Still want a H3A though.

Halo 5’s Weapons + Halo 3’s Movement and Equipment would work great together.

Halo wasn’t that unique. It copied mechanics from Doom, Unreal tournament, and quake. You guys need to stop assuming that classic halo was super unique and that’s why everyone loved it. Haven’t we already discussed and proved that halo 5 is like none of those games you listed?
OP, it seems your problem is with WZFF and the art style, not the actual mechanics of halo 5.

Why do thrusters not belong in a Halo game?
-
You can also turn and confront those who shoot you from behind in Halo 5 though?
-
It feels like a Halo game because it has returned to it’s arena shooter roots in that everyone starts on the same footing - something which has been missing from the franchise since Halo 3.
-
Halo 5 has a clear focus on the golden triangle, how does that not resemble previous titles? The golden triangle has been left alone unlike in Reach and 4 in which elements such as AA’s altered the golden triangle and loadouts diminished Halo’s status as an arena shooter.
-
Why is clambering allowed but thrusters aren’t? Why do you define what does and doesn’t belong in a Halo game?
-
Granted the story is awful but that has nothing to do with the gameplay mechanics…
At any point are we going to stop defining the Halo series by how similar the current iteration is to Halo 3? As long as a game effectively captures the core values of the Halo franchise (the golden triangle for example), then it’s fine by me. ‘Different’ is not synonymous with ‘bad’, nor is ‘developed’. To me, Halo 5 feels like a natural evolution of Halo’s gameplay with features that add depth while at the same time providing relevance in the modern gaming market.
Halo 3… isn’t very great…
The spirit though? OH MY IN HALO 5 IS SO BEAUTIFUL!
It looks amazing.

And the Sangheili vehicles overall, that phantom! The way weaons look with different scopes and attachments, the assault rifle! oh my all!

Thrusters have existed in Halo since Reach. Remember evade? SAME MECHANICS! Halo 4 also had the thruster two years before literally every other game started adding them in. They’ve also existed in the lore since the Fall of Reach, the very first piece of anything Halo ever released to the public.
The rest of your comment is entirely subjective and an opinion

The art style isn’t meant to be realistic like COD, Battlefield, or Gears. It’s almost always had that cartoonish, high sci-fi style. I feel like that helps keep the hardcore Battlefield/COD/Gears fans out of the game.

- Thrusters allow people to duck behind quickly cover and regenerate their health which doesn’t require skill. I don’t remember doing that in halo 3.
- How does halo 5 focus on the golden triangle? It’s more like a golden pentagon now. Sprint breaks the golden triangle, ground pound breaks the golden triangle, Spartan charge breaks the golden triangle. I really hate sprint, Spartan charge and thrusters but I don’t care about the rest although I would rather see them go
- If halo 5 didn’t respect halo’s original arena roots the MP would have been as bad as halo 4’s so I agree with you there.
- Clamabering can stay as its a useful tool used to climb on a ledge which you can reach.

- ‘Well Halo 3 had bubble shields which let people take cover anywhere to regenerate their health, which requires no skill. I don’t remember doing that in Halo 2. Halo 2 is the only true Halo game’. See what I did there?
Again, how good a Halo game is isn’t defined by it’s similarities to Halo 3. Just because we couldn’t do something in Halo 3 doesn’t mean it “doesn’t belong in Halo”. Vehicle hijacking wasn’t added until Halo 2 and Equipment was added in Halo 3 - Halo’s gameplay has been innovating from the beginning. This is just another innovation.
-
Those features don’t break the golden triangle, just add to it. Ground pound and spartan charge are developments of the melee tenet whereas thruster abilities simply add movement options.
-
-
But surely clambering takes away from the skill of trick jumps and nade jumps?
There seems to be a double standard here.
I think sprint needs to be toned down. I liked how it was in Reach, a short burst of speed.
