I played CE today for the first time since the Season 8 update dropped. I knew people loved the classic HUD, but I didn’t understand the full depth of why everyone was making it into such a big deal. Once I switched to classic graphics, I realized how cool the HUD really is! Glad 343i brought this tiny but important detail back!

I am so happy that 343 Industries finally bring back the Classic HUD from the original Halo Combat Evolved Xbox version. It was great to play the Classic Halo Combat Evolved version on PC. At the same time, I am also very happy that 343 Industries fix the Halo 2 classic version especially when it comes to the graphics.

Do you know what exactly they did with H2? Admittedly, I haven’t searched or looked at the game itself very hard, but I could not find much on the topic.

343 Industries fix the graphics in Halo 2 to make it look more like the original Halo 2 Xbox version. There’s a video on YouTube in which it shows the Halo 2 comparison especially when it comes to the graphics. I think it’s called “343 finally fixed Halo 2’s broken graphics on MCC.”

It mainly has to do with the way lighting and shading are handled, like the CE graphical update a few months ago, making metal look more like metal and making bumpmaps more evident for one.

I know right the classic CE HUD is way better than the modern one since the reticles are brighter and easier to see on darker maps like rat race or longest plus it just looks more futuristic to me.

Pleasantly surprised with the reticle change. It looks crisper somehow, I suppose because it’s a tad thinner, which makes it feel better to aim with. Also brighter yes this is a good update so far. I’m happy they are fixing and improving along with releasing new cosmetics.
The Classic CE HUD is the only choice for me. The anniversary hud is too dark and tends to blend in the with environment.
One of my favorite updates! I honestly thought that would be at the bottom of the list of 343i’s priority, so I was so surprised and happy to see 343i bring it back.
And the Halo 2 cutscene fixes (and everything else in this season) pretty much checks off anything I had an issue with in MCC for the last 7 years!

Agreed. Not only Season 8 is the best season in the Halo Master Chief Collection, it also have a much better experience on PC, Xbox Series X and Xbox One especially when it comes to gameplay. There’s another possibility that could happened. We could be looking at multiple repeat viewings on the Halo Master Chief Collection especially with Season 8 just came out.

It’s great to have the classic CE Hud back 
It also helped with getting the par scores as so much clearer to see, got 6 more par scores since using classic hud again lol. Now just that pesky T&R to go on CE
Judging by the end with the Scarab, plasma bolts might be fixed too.
The broken port removed the bright (white) center so they were a lot more colorful than they should be.

EDIT: Holy -Yoink-, 343i has done a tremendous job. I noticed a few of the issues mentioned before season 8, but I figured that’s how H2 looked originally. Man, I’m so glad I was wrong because H2 looked properly beautiful the last time I played it a few days back. Having watched that video, I have a lot of appreciation for the people who would have undoubtedly spent a lot of time and effort making these fixes to H2. MCC is getting better and better! So glad CE and H2 both look like they did on the OG Xbox. Bravo, 343i!

Yeah, 343 Industries has been doing a really good job with the Halo Master Chief Collection updates on PC, Xbox Series X and Xbox One. Personally, I think 343 Industries should consider doing another season in the Halo Master Chief Collection. There is still a lot of updates they can bring in the game.
