I changed my gamertag and now my stats on halo reach are nonexistent, if I search for the person who took my old gamertag appears as inheritor

All you have to do is load up Halo: Reach again and your stats will come back. While your gamertag can be changed the data stored on your account can’t be.
I no longer have halo reach, that’s what bothers me

If you have a friend who has it you can either borrow theirs or download your account onto their Xbox.
Also you should probably do this prior to the servers being switched to off at the end of this year (2021) because then you won’t be able to load up a match and have your data synchronize. Keep this in mind y’all if you’re planning on changing your gamertag after that happens. Unless they is planning a workaround of course.
It should be noted you’ll also lose your Spartan Customization on Waypoint. I believe that data was being pulled from Bungie.net. When I changed my gamertag my armor changed to default everything.
Good luck getting it to sync if you do get a disc. I have 100% completion for H3, ODST and Reach, but Waypoint says that I never played the games. I still have all of my Halo discs, so I re-installed H3, ODST, Reach (sucks that H1/H2 are no longer active) and played a few matches of each, but no change in my service record.
For some reason the stats will not sync and support cannot help with Waypoint and no answer from Twitter. Not sure what else to try at this point.
my halo score has been recorded this is the most important i guess, i hope they won’t give a reward on infinite for having finished halo reach, i would be disgusted
As over on the stickied thread, I contacted support and they gave this response. Please file a ticket and reference this thread and hopefully the developers will look into it.
