There will be a new event about the Noble soon, and it has been more than a month since the last Intel release.
The story is out…
reads like pretty bad fan-fiction here, the mark of Haruspis it would seem.
It sucks, the subject matter is good, but the writing just isn’t there.
So I guess Thom is sparten in the one halo reach trailer that sacrificed himself. I wonder why they changed his design?
That’s a very harsh take. Haruspis was an excellent analytical writer as part of the community. You have no way of knowing the kind of editorial oversight/pressure which limits what he can/cannot do now he is part of the 343 Community Team
Being an analytical writer and being able to write creatively are not the same. I’m not sure I understand what you mean about editorial oversight, I’m doubtful that they said “please make this more cheesy.”
I mean, the story is just bad… laughably so. I don’t understand why they have this guy writing fiction… the last sky marshal was similarly terrible. This universe has had writers like Eric Nylund and Greg Bear, sad to see how far it has sunk.
I agree on the first point up to a point, but I suspect the second is the crux of my point… There are two changes to Haruspis’ writing since he joined 343:
- Analytical vs Creative
- Editorial oversight and ‘third voices’
While you can have good analytical writers be awful creative writers and vice versa… I somehow doubt 343 would have hired someone only on the basis of analytical writing if they wanted them to be a creative. The bigger change I suspect is the amount of review and editorial scrutiny… Ask any writer… The hardest thing to do is writing for editors instead of your audience. Haruspis may not have experienced that before and honestly it changes you as a writer.
Re: the others… They write novels… Not blogs
Yes, and Haruspis should write blogs, not fiction. I’m sure it’s difficult and he’s learning a lot, but Halo just can’t afford to be letting people figure out their craft while they’re writing canon.
The overall quality of media coming from this universe has gone down considerably.
