and I thought I was at least decent at FPS games but I’m starting to think I just -Yoinking!- suck -Yoink- and I get lucky. I know playing by my self I’m going to get matched with randoms and the pattern seems to be that there’s two if not three decent players and there’s always the 1 really bad player. I guess that’s how the matchmaking system balances itself out. Which isn’t bad.
Though sometimes it will pair a bunch of randoms up against a group and that’s where I do really bad. I mean I know the maps, weapon locations, power up locations but in general you really don’t need that -Yoink- to win a match because someone can have camo/os and still suck horrible with it. Same thing with power weapons. It’s happened to me. I’ve won just using magnum, dmr or br. Power wep/ups aren’t necessary.
Spawn locations are relatively easy to know cause depending on where you’re teammates are where they aren’t thats generally where the system is going to spawn a enemy player.
Soooooo since I know this. Why the -Yoink- does it seem I suck even when I play with randoms.
It’s different for everyone.
I found my stride was SR 60 - SR 120. After that, I became -Yoink- at the game for whatever reason.
Don’t forget, Halo 5 is a relatively different FPS, with shields, armor abilities, map layouts, etc. they all flow different than other FPS.
Try playing some CoD and see how you feel.
You know what they say…every dog has its day.
Remember someone is always at their peak. Someone one might be better than you one day but worse the next. It happens to most of us. I been playing Halo for many years now, would say I’m pretty skilled at it, but that doesn’t mean I can’t/don’t get my butt kicked.
A lot of people have been playing Halo for a long time, and the skill gap is pretty big, that’s why we usually do well when we play other FPS games. The reason I mention this is because there is a lot of skilled players who play the game.
H5 has been out for a while, most of the the noobs have come and left, and now you are now left with is die hards like us and the noobs who aren’t noobs anymore because they stuck with it.
Point is, most of us have the same mindset. Thus making it harder for all of us to do well. You might have a good day and demolish me, the next day vice versa. Because you have a few off games doesn’t mean you suck.
Just my opinion

I do play Call of Duty every now and then and I’m decent when I want to be. I’ve had 30/40-10/15 KD in that game and then of course like this game I’ll have bad games here and there in Call of Duty or Battlefield.

Yeah that’s how I tend to try and look at things. I know I don’t have good/perfect games every game. That’s just unrealistic to think so though I’ve come across players that think they’re god like. Which is very ridiculous.
It’s probably the low TTK and ‘contortionist compensation’ style design philosophy of the mechanics and balance tuning.
That’s what frustrated me the most, besides the bland and uninspired map design.
I think I’m starting to catch my stride now and the game has been out for a couple years and more. I finally reached Champion in Arena and Slayer, granted HCS has made things easier in other playlists it’s still Champion. My shot is better, positioning, spawn advantages, playing with pace, etc. I think you’re being doubtful about your gameplay before the game starts. What has worked for me is self-awareness. When I’m getting frustrated or the flow of the game is changing I try and observe what’s going on before I fall back into old habits. Try to switch up your play style and mentality. Yeah playing with randoms can be irritating but that’s an opportunity to learn individually and learn all the play styles and setups.
I get frustrated when im doing bad and when im doing good and my teammates are doing terrible
Try playing a different time of day. Halo 5 multiplayer at noon on Wednesday isn’t the same as Saturday night. I’m decent during the week playing against little kids lol.

Yes it’s the games fault you suck, not your own /s.
OP, if you want to get better, play a gamemode called Accuracy and on AHP Octagon 2.0. Basically you can only get kills by never missing and getting perfects. It helped my aim tremendously.

The reasons I mentioned are why I do poorly in Halo 5 compared to most other Halo games, yeah (Service Record for reference, and yeah I’m sh*t).
Figured it might be the same for OP since it is for a lot of people in my circles.
Plus it’s solid logic, if CoD one day changed to a class based shooter with ULT abilities, and you did poorly in it despite being great at previous CoD games, then it’d be safe to say that changes in the game are the issue, not your individual skill. I mean saying otherwise is like saying a great Volleyball player would be great at Tennis because both are played on a court, it doesn’t work like that.
I mean yeah, it’s my ‘fault’ (if you can call it that), that I don’t like Halo 5’s mechanics and thus don’t want to take the time to ‘git gud’, but it’s not my fault they were implemented, soooo I can’t really do anything besides add my voice to the others calling for change, which hopefully, for the franchise’s sake, is coming soon.
I tend to play better when I’m able to outsmart an opponent or just don’t care. I tend to play worse when I get frustrated, overconfident, or impatient. If you’re playing on a team, almost always stick with your squad! You never know how many opponents you may run into at any given time.
Well, I would say you’re not doing well because you think power weapons and power ups aren’t necessary to win. If you switch that mindset, you’ll start doing far better.
I know you’re going to try and argue with me, but in Halo, the above mentality is simply and objectively wrong.

You are only in the 30s, and since most people are level 100 or up, that would make it harder for you (OP’s in the 20s). The TTK is slightly faster than halo 2 but way faster than CE, so I don’t understand when people complain about TTK. You always have to learn the mechanics of a game to git gud. It’s not exclusive to halo 5. Just the way you said it made it seem like it’s the games fault if he’s bad, when in reality, it’s his fault for not learning it. I mean just look at this:
> It’s probably the low TTK and ‘contortionist compensation’ style design philosophy of the mechanics and balance tuning.
Tell me it doesn’t look like you’re fully blaming the game.

Put it down to bad wording on my part I suppose.
Truly just meant the game was far harder to get good at and stay good at than previous games (except maybe 3) because of factors like said bullet mag and aim assist which so often put the encounter result out of the player’s hands is all. I heard they patched the aiming recently though, so perhaps it’s a mute issue now. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Eh everyone gets Frustated. I’d just maybe you’re of average skill with the type of people you are out up against (if it’s ranked) but all the sweaties play social anyways

To me this sums it up perfectly. This game is far harder to get good at than any other Halo that ever was. S K I L L G A P.

Considering who it was made for (read; competitive people), that isn’t a huge shock.
I don’t remember if it was Doubles or Slayer, but after that match teammate send me a message to remind me how poorly I did that match and I suck. So I ask him does he do well in all his games and his replied was he never had a bad game ever. I told him good for you. Don’t be let that determines what kind of player you are. Trust me, there are times where I literally asked myself as am playing the game… Do I suck that bad? Lol
