pay 50 bucks for a season pass of sorts, that will split the community, rather then get these free updates, infused in the game that do not effect the community at all, as everyone has them the second they go live.
free maps are the way too go for sure in my opinion, the only downside, is map quality? and i for one, have no complaints with the maps we have gotten, remixes or not, (except overgrowth, i would pay to have that one removed)
i hope this doesn’t come off as rude or defensive. just don’t see the logic
because now we have " wow this is FREE?? should have been in at launch" when the same crowd would say " WOW you want 50 dollars for maps that should have been in at launch?? kiss my!"

The ‘updates’ are mostly content that should have been present at launch or variation on existing content. Essentially Halo 5 has shipped episodically. The req additions are just more fuel to get people to buy reqs.

i was solely speaking about maps, i do understand everything else, i should have made that more clear
Personally I’m enjoying the free maps that 343i is adding/remixing into the game via updates, that being said some content such as various weapons and game modes, seem to have been held back in order to fill an update when the items could have been put into the game at release, I understand that not everything will make it into the final cut of the game at launch but when content is held back to “extend” the life of a game it damages the player base and usually pisses off the community.
As far as paid DLC goes, I’d be OK with paid DLC being offered as premium content such as cosmetic items and early access to the upcoming DLC’s. With the current model 343/MS is running with H5, H6 will ship with very little multiplayer content, which will then be later released as free updates containing small amounts of content that could have been in-game at launch but was held back in order to extend the life of the game.

i myself enjoy monthly updates, because they do extend the life time of the game, but this model, usually if not always, is only for FREE to play games,
you know the games you didn’t pay 60 dollars for, while i do enjoy it, i can understand the frustrations,
i feel like this free updates, kept me coming back, in a way that, paid dlc would have kept me away (looking at you battlefront)
in my opinion, if we were given all of these at launch, but then would have had to pay for more, that would be just as sour, as waiting for all that we got for free (i hope that made sense) because i know for me (i do not speak for others of course) i would go OMG SO MUCH STUFF THIS IS AMAZING! for the first month, and then never touched it again. even more so, if we had to pay for essentially “new life” into the game.
Given how much the free updates recycle content or plays catch-up with older Halo games, I’m not surprised they are free. Ty may not split the community, but I’d have to wonder how much they’ve actually kept people playing.
The maps are remixes. They are literally recycled content. I find it odd how people are unable to realize this. The maps play almost exactly the same, or they are worse. I would rather pay $15 for 4-5 new maps. Instead, I get more REQ filler for people who like to throw money at the screen, and 2 maps that are already in the game with a different paint job to fill up my hard drive.
I’ve enjoyed playing Halo 5. I’ll continue to enjoy playing Halo 5. Free DLC just makes it more convenient for me.

“with a different paint job”
the remixs share like one common thing with there original counter part.
i never said the maps weren’t remixs, but guess what. a remix is still looked at as new. brand new? no, but new.
if you can sit down and say “i like the remix better then the original” then the remix did it’s job of being new enough for you to make an different opinion of it because clearly you don’t treat riptide and fathom the same do you? no you play them differently.
i myself rather keep the community as together as possible, then pay to separate myself. if that is through remakes, then so be it.
but it’s good to see you aren’t the “15 dollars? why wasn’t this in at launch” type
i respect that.

I liked overgrowth, don’t know why people doesn’t like it.
Anyway, why don’t make GOOD updates and free ?
Paid REQs keep the free updates happening… for now.
I would rather pay for decent content than be patronized by 343 with their “free DLC” consisting of trash remixes, REQ padding, and features we should have had at launch, yes. If I could get high quality free updates, that would obviously be ideal.

And who in their right mind would actually say that about the vast majority of them? Riptide is TRASH. Overgrowth is TRASH. Tyrant is decent at best. The only remix that I would even think about suggesting is better than the original is Stasis and that’s only because Torque (the only totally new map we’ve gotten in the updates) sucked. I don’t even have a problem with remixes in theory, though it is transparent cost-cutting and makes everything look the same. The main problem is that pretty much all of the remixes are bad.

This. Also, paying for additional content does not guarantee it would have been any better than what we have received.
I would have to say that while I enjoy getting the “free” content, some of the maps were a complete let down. The Arena maps for the most part have some fundamental flaw that keeps them from being completely fun in the playlist they were designed for. Either in design itself or in how you spawn, to what weapons on them. Let’s take RIPTIDE, absolutely horrible spawning. Another example of double dipping these mistakes is Stasis, again more times then not I am spawned in a space were I am in the open and picked off by the enemy team, so then they make a paint job remix…with the same issue. Remixes are fine, but they need more originals in there.

that’ is not the point, point is you were still able to make an opinion on the remixes for better or for worst, so objectivity they did their jobs, of being different enough for you to form the opinion of them being trash. if they played the same, you would say “eh, it’s pretty much the same” but they don’t, so you say they are trash. like you said, the problem isn’t that they are remixed maps, the problem is that they happened to suck, on top of being remixed
(as a community, me personally I like most of the remixes) would we still hate remixes if they were called remixes instead of map variations?
And besides…if there weren’t remix maps and we only got a new maps every OTHER update people would be complaining about the lack of maps in rotation. :. Remixes in my eyes were an economic concept for 343i to make some new maps with moderately different gameplay in a timely and economic manner.
