I feel they need to slow down on E-Sports

Perhaps I should have placed this in the general forum because it doesn’t have anything to do with any particular game; it’s more about how 343 has structured their Halo community and its news. However, I feel it has a direct affect on Halo 5 and it’s launch. To be clear I do not intend to take anything away from 343. I feel they’re doing well in spite of the public’s determination to vilify them. While they aren’t the most responsive developer, they do listen to feedback, and they make changes (if sometimes a little late) for their fans. However, sometimes I feel they stress their Halo championship over more newsworthy material. It’s two months from the Halo 5 launch. That’s what I’m interested to hear about. I understand that they can’t give every piece of information away or it would water down the mystery of the launch. But every time I hop onto waypoint the news always seems to center around the championship. By the way, do these things ever end? I feel they’ve been holding these tournaments for three years with no break.

Personally I feel it has been a misplacement of priorities. E-sports have always tended to be a bandwagon affair. They ride the popularity of a game, but in the absence of hype for a game they don’t really do anything for the franchise. I see all this stuff about Halo championships. That’s good and all; you have your wagon, but where is your horse to draw it? I’m not seeing much news about Halo 5 to fuel an interest in the other stuff.

Development updates, VidDocs (I loved the Sprint videos), Q&A, interviews, video demonstrations, etc. Those are the things that I’m looking for to get me excited, and I don’t see them. At least I don’t see them when I’m on waypoint. Perhaps I don’t load waypoint on the days that they pop up. In which case, shame on me. But every time I’m here all I see is crap about the tournaments, and it’s boring. It’s bringing me to tears. I don’t care about E-Sports. I’d rather they load a five second clip of the Master Chief farting into a tin cup.

Anyways, those are my thoughts. Let me know if I’m unfounded for what I said.

I haven’t seen tonnes, but there is material out there to get you excited. Although the tournaments are somewhat overblown. When there is a new game coming out, I agree, that should take precedence.

The e-sports focus is more of an attempt to show Halo’s base game is more like Halo than Halo 4 was. Halo 4 went so off the rails that they’re trying to drive home the point that certain aspect of the game have returned in order to get people interested again.

I only wish they tone down the e-sports stuff down a little bit, I understand they are trying to get the competitive scene’s attention and all, but there also Halo fans that aren’t really competitive, the guys who like to sit back and goof around, but so far that specific crowd isn’t really pleased yet.
Halo 5 just needs that super “sandboxy” feel to it.

I am super pleased. 343 made a whole new mode for people like me to enjoy, and it looks pretty fun. People complained when all they did at e3 was campaign and Warzone (non-competitive stuff) and now they show more E-sports stuff and people still complain.

the community is just like that, it feels like the negatives always get more attention on a game.
I, myself am not displeased, Warzone looks like a lot of fun, especially the Arena Multiplayer, which I loved to death in the beta.
but we haven’t heard anything about Infection, Grifball, ActionSack, or even Gravity Hammers believe it or not.
The more casual gametypes are just missing so far.

I think it’s about time that 343i puts more emphasis on E-sports. I think it will take the game and the franchise in a good direction.

Personally, I believe that 343 is going a bit too far with e-sports. It feels like there somewhat forgetting about the Forging community, Grifball community, and the Mini game/arcade community. Let’s just hope that the Gravity Hammer is in Halo 5 for now…

The live-action trailers have 10 mil views and Warzone has 3 million, the vidocs have 300k. When they release their new live-action(hopefully they have another) it will promote the game. You’re forgetting we’re the 1% who keep droning over these forums. People don’t check daily for new information, they just need the big trailers before it releases to remind everyone the game is coming.
