I Don't Want To Play This Game Anymore

I hyped Halo 4 to death. I truly, truly believed it would be the next game worthy of years of love and attention like its predecessors.

I haven’t touched Halo 4 in two weeks.

I’m still dumbfounded by this. A brand new Halo experience and i’ve already grown tired of it? How could this be?

Look, Halo 4 is a great game at its core. It’s another complete package that has a something for everyone. Creative, competitive, casuals, everyone. It’s a good game. But there’s something missing that I just can’t point my finger on. I feel as if this game does not have the charm that past games in the series had.

The Campaign’s narrative was excellent, but far too linear(In terms of Halo games), fails to develop the Didact enough, and a tad too short.

Infinity was a blast during my time with it, but I reached a point where I realized something.

This is not Halo anymore. It’s evolved Halo. But it just so happens that classic Halo gameplay - no custom loadouts, instant spawns, Ordnance Drops, or armor abilities - was what I truly loved about the series. Infinity multiplayer is now nothing more than a frantic fast paced shooter to me. It simply isn’t fun to get mowed down by easily obtainable SAWs or Banshees. If I want to test my twitch abilities, I’ll go play Call of Duty, which actually accomplishes this well(For the most part).

My point is: If I want fast paced shooter gameplay, there’s already other games that do it well. When I play and think of Halo, I think of a calmer atmosphere that doesn’t force you to play like a maniac and ultimately result in being constantly frustrated at the game.

Halo was my escape from the mayhem. It was a good, old-fashioned test of skill that I wanted to play.

Bungie always says “We make games that we want to play.”

I’m now unsure if 343 crafted this game - mainly the multiplayer - because they wanted to. If you ask me, I get the impression that they felt like they felt forced to add some features that Halo simply didn’t need out of fear of losing its fans to its competitors.

We’re called fans for a reason. If we’re fans of a game, we stick with it, we remain faithful. And there’s a reason as to why we love Halo. It wasn’t instant spawns and loadouts, I can tell you that much. 343 wouldn’t have lost anything if they ditched some of the ridiculous additions to the game in exchange for preserving some of the classic Halo experience.

I don’t hate Halo 4. It’s a good game, but it’s not the best Halo game. To me, it’s quite far from it. But i’ll give 343 credit, for their very first full-fledged game, they did quite well. But I truly believe that they made some of the decisions that they made out of fear of losing us.

We’re not going anywhere. We love Halo, so give us more Halo. Not a poor attempt at trying to reel in more cash at the cost of your real fans.

I agree. I don’t have the drive to play this game anymore, lie, you said, it lacks the charm of older halo games, which is a real shame.

I envy the Halo 3 days so much. Those were some of the happiest years I’ve had in gaming. Custom games, matchmaking, everything.

Classic.

I sometimes wonder if we’ll ever have another game that keeps players interested for such a long period of time. It would be amazing if Bungie’s Destiny does something original and ends up being just as loved as Halo, possibly even more loved.

I agree. It feels like a game with a halo mask on. I have a lot of respect for 343 and what they’ve done but this just feels like a different game.

One thing I’ll point out is where the attention has gone. As an old halo fan you should know what I’m talking about when I speak of the LMAO moments in vehicles. The stuff you could do in them and with them. Having the ability to flip a tank and use it as a ramp or as cover was hilarious and also the ability to put any vehicle into any man cannon or lift.

Now it kind of feels like more attention has gone purely to gunplay alone and balancing the game out with that to the point to where vehicle combat gets dumbed down.

I too have found myself losing interest and I attribute it to something completely different.

I feel so much thought was placed into how the game could be better, they forgot the little things that laid the foundation for a decade’s worth of loyal fans…

I exclusively played Halo if I played any FPS in the past, but I now find myself actually contemplating going to get Black Ops 2…

I own Black Ops. I’ve enjoyed it deeply, but don’t set yourself up to believe it’s something revolutionary. It’s Call of Duty, but it’s a great Call of Duty game.

Sadly, the Campaign is 90% gunplay and 10% power vehicle gameplay. What happened to missions like the Covenant and The Ark that encouraged vehicle use and experimenting with your environments?

I agree.

Halo 4 has lost everything I used to love about Halo. Every small addition and tweak has watered down the Halo experience more and more.

All they needed to do after Reach, was go back a bit more towards Halo 3 and polish and expand on that formula. Make matchmaking better, theatre, customs, online cups/tournaments, platoons, forge etc. etc. Make all the Reach haters come back and let the whole community fall in love with Halo again.

Now it’s just, it’s not Halo anymore, at least not the Halo I once loved.

I lost interest to Halo 4 very soon, as I got too annoyed by every little change. I stopped playing and I’m going to sell this game in a few days.

This Halo is not for me, I’m going to move on and say my farewell to my favourite series.

They probably got thrown out for more focus on the relationship between MC and Cortana.

This. Halo is a rotting creation of Bungie on life support from Microsoft-whose intentions are to milk every last cent out of it. Bungie had no idea what they were getting into with Halo, they practically put the xbox on there back. Reach was the final straw for them, now 343 is the new player. Just reading about Destiny, I expect big things…AGAIN.

Those leaked pieces of art and the premise… Incredible.

Long post. Didn’t even bother reading. (Yeah, I’ve come to the point of not actually caring)

343 don’t give a -Yoink-. It’s as simple as that. The game is -Yoink-. Graphics are good but the animation is disgusting. How does the Linch blow up like something a baby could draw on the walls with the contents of his nappy?! How can this game SEQUEL Halo 3 with an explosion that doesn’t even come close to the scarab? Why soo many speed runs? You might as well have called this Halo Kart. Every time a vehicle you pilot gets destroyed in the campaign, it respawns brand new, yeah like we’re kids who need it easy. The Warthog floats on the surface, again, great detail, and most of the -Yoink- is ripped from Reach, like the Plasma launcher grenade sound FX… well -Yoinking!- done.

Lazy.

Says it all, never ever hype a game.

So you only played the game for a week and already giving it up? You havnt even gave it a chance.

Smh…

LOL, look at my stats and you’ll see just how much I’ve played this game.

I think 343 is focused solely on the financial part and hopes that the fans like it.

Bungie did everything for the fans. Listened to us, even played with us. Because of this, the money to make their next game WAS their reward.

Now, I’m NOT saying that this is definitely how 343 operates, it just appears this way from how they have done so far, which is all I have to base my beliefs on them.

Yeah that’s what I was also thinking.

Too much hype is what killed Halo 2 for me, the final product just wasn’t my kind of game. Since then I kept my expectations as low as possible and have been able to enjoy each game since.

So much negativity in this thread. I am loving this game as much as Halo 2. I love all the changes and everything, but i’m the only one?

> So much negativity in this thread. I am loving this game as much as Halo 2. I love all the changes and everything, but i’m the only one?

It’s all preference. No one’s going to kill you if you like the game, in fact, I envy you. I wish I liked the game more, but I just can’t bring myself up to it.

I have to say for only playing the game for 1 week pretty much throws your credibility out of the water, sorry but it’s true. People really are spoiled now a days, they think they deserve and know everything about maintaining a game at launch and updating it (which btw never happens until a few months after).

So tell me, how did you love all the other Halos when then they were even more buggy than H4 on release? Look how they turned out. Give it time people. It’s hilarious to see people saying this game is so bad when H2 was probably one of the worst launches from a huge series on the xbox. Start giving actually helpful feedback and just wait for the updates that WILL come, get off your high horse.
