I don't want Team Armour colours in Halo ONE.

One of Halo’s defining attributes is that opposing teams have pre-set differing colours covering most of the body armour. Those colours normally being red and blue. Yet in spite of that, successive Halo titles have increased the amount of custom armour, skins and colour.

I ask, what is the point of unique personal armour colours if the only place you can see it is in Free for All play? I am disappointed every time I see someone and one of their uniquely selected identities is thrown away in favour of being a red or blue blob.

I’d like to see team colours go away and team identification be a simple defining icon, the four letter code we have now and colour, all of which only appears when inside of a weapon appropriate range of that player. We practically have this now so why not go all the way with the armour colour?

Thinking ahead, with XBOX ONE’S higher resolution it should work pretty good. It would make all those Armour combos and skins we’ll be paying for, much more worthwhile and satisfying.

I love pre-set armor colors in team games. I would like it to stay.

Your individual colors are already seen in modes such as FFA, Flood, and Spartan Ops. They are also for display in the lobbies and when people view your Spartan.

Forced team colors should stay, as I really don’t think they take away anything from the game. It makes the game much easier to play as you can clearly tell who are your enemies and who are your allies through their color.

Forced colors is the best thing you can do to easily tell who’s on your team and who’s not. What you’re suggesting sounds like it wouldn’t work quite as well. With Red and Blue teams, you can tell who your opponents are even if they’re on the other side of the map. I would like it if we were able to keep our secondary color just to have a little more customization, though.

On one hand, people will argue redvsblue is iconic.

On the other, removing forced colors doesn’t really make it harder to tell friend from foe. Things like nametags, crosshair color, radar, etc. make this easy enough already.

I have to agree with Oompa on this one, OP. Custom Colors are fine with FFA, Flood/Infection, Spartan Ops, and hopefully in Firefight. However, custom colors involving teams, would be really confusing. I say forced team colors should stay.

yes but those don’t show when your not directly looking at someone, this way I can tell who are my enemies and allies even if I’m not looking right at them.

We should be able to select different shades of Red and Blue.

Also, if they plan on keeping the armour skins, they should be way more visible, and we should be able to select what colour the detail is. That way it’s still the classic RvB but with a little more personalization.

How about at least adding it as an option for Customs?

Options are never a bad thing.

Doesn’t Halo 3 allow you to keep your secondary color for team based gametypes?

Forced team colors should stay, however I do think your current armor’s customized skin should appear on that color. I don’t think that would make it that different, you could still tell Blue against Red.

That was in Halo 2, actually. The primary colour of your Spartan was that of the team you were on, while your secondary colour would become the primary colour that your FFA Spartan would be.

For example, this is how it worked :

FFA :

  • Primary : Orange
  • Secondary : Yellow

Team (Blue team) :

  • Primary : Blue
  • Secondary : Orange

In Halo 3, however, we had the “Detail” colour, which was simply a strip on the Spartan’s arm and leg. In multiplayer, both the primary and secondary colour would be that of your team, while your Detail colour would stay the same as you chose (Orange, pink, green, etc.)

On that note, I believe that forced team colours should stay, while our secondary colour should be different, like in Halo 2. That way, it’s easier to determine if somebody is an enemy or an ally at a glance, especially when they’re out of red reticule range or not being pointed at directly.

So you’ve had a problem with this in every single Halo? It’s not gonna change unless you do this in Custom games where you can change the forced team color.

I think in team games it’s needed, it really depends on what there is available, if they keep team colours I’m fine with that, but please please please 343i, get rid of salmon pink and powder blue, it’s just not cricket baby.

I think forced team colors should stay.

Firstly because Red vs Blue is simply iconic for Halo.
Secondly I think custom colors would lead to a lot of betrayals, especially in the beginning when introduced. Besides I think it could slow down gameplay as well because you would always have to ‘check’ who is on your team and who is not, especially in mid to long range.

Being able to play with your custom colors would be a nice feature for a gametype like Invasion, where two different species are fighting each other, though.

Here’s an idea for 343 to munch on (that might please everyone):

This idea would be best if we had a multitude of color options in terms of both an expanded palette, and more ways to apply those colors (such as primary, secondary, accent, and under armor colors).

We have Red v Blue as always but you can customize three different armors instead of just one:

Your main armor = The one that appears in lobbies and FFA gametypes with no restriction on color.

Your “Red” armor = Through the primary armor color must be a shade of red, all other color slots can be filled with any warm color (shades of red, orange, and yellow).

Your “Blue” Armor = Through the primary armor color must be a shade of blue, all other color slots can be filled with any cool color (shades of blue, purple, and green).

Perhaps these could even actually be three separate armor configurations rather than just color schemes. If they go that route it might be interesting to have progressive aesthetic unlocks that can only be achieved through winning games while on a certain color team so that 343 can build a separate thematic look for Red and Blue.

(obviously I think things like custom game options and a competitive core experience should take precedent in development–most customizable Halo experience should refer to game options and not player skin options next time around.)

I think it should go back to the H2 primary colour as secondary system, or to the H3 armour detail colour system. It should also expand on both systems and team colours in general.

I’ve already made a thread about this but let’s just break this down, shall we?

Red and Blue are iconic to the series:
Alright, let’s be honest with each other. We didn’t give two craps about this until Red vs. Blue came out. And even if we consider it tradition now, Red vs. Blue’s characters had different shades of both colors anyway so most of them weren’t stock red or blue even. Not to mention that some characters were completely different colors as well.

It’s easier to see who’s an enemy:
Yes and no. On some maps, blue is harder to see. On some maps, red. However, we can still have red and blue to differentiate between friend and foe. Simply use this system.

We have to have it one way or the other:
Nope. As I said in my own thread, everyone could perhaps have an option to force default colors on people if they want to like the “Force Default Models” option that most old FPS’ have.

This idea could work. It’d be more interesting to see more colors in matchmaking than just red and blue.

I didn’t like the way Halo 2 did it with the secondary color always being visible. I like it when your spartan is just one color in team games.
