So half the threads on this forum are related to whether the DMR needs a nerf, or the BR needs a buff, or the DMR is overpowered, etc…
Why? I’m not going to argue with those who say the DMR is overpowered, they are likely right…what I don’t understand, is why does it matter?
You have access to the DMR as a loadout weapon by level 3. Halo CE had the pistol. Halo 2/3 had the BR, Reach, the DMR.
Every Halo title has had that one go-to weapon. In H4, it’s clearly the DMR. The only reason anyone cares is because they want to use the BR…but they still can…just at a disadvantage. So why exactly does it matter? Even if they straight removed the DMR from the game, the BR would be the new go-to weapon, and the gameplay would change ever so slightly (it would bring players a little closer together, but not much).
So I ask, sincerely, why does it matter? Just use the DMR, and quit whining about it being OP…
I guess that’s the point. What is it you want them to change, and more importantly…why? How would the gameplay change by nerfing the DMR?
Why use any of the other weapons when there is the DMR? That’s not fun.
You’re right, we all have access to it, that doesn’t make it FUN though.
I’d much rather use weapons according to the maps being played.
For example: ragnorok, I’d use the DMR since it’s a long range map. On Haven, I’d LIKE to use the BR or the AR but I find myself (and the rest of the community) to use the DMR on these smaller maps because it still seems to trump even the CQ weapons.
Yes the DMR is the staple gun that does everything which is always associated with Halo, but the problem is no other gun can do that. 343 obviously wanted balanced diversity with the customized loadouts and all the different starter guns, that is the change they are making from the previous halos, but the DMR is capable to be good at all ranges breaking this balance. Honestly i know some people on here are just whiners, but your no better for calling everyone wanting a change with the DMR a whiner, or cry baby. Same as this other guy, nothing helps worse when a moron like you just says people who dont like it suck and dont know any better.
IMO i think a slower fire rate or huge bloom when unzoomed would help fix the issue of the DMR dominating most forms of combat within halo 4.
But…no one complained about CE, 2, or 3’s gameplay becoming stale…and in each one of those games, there was a single go-to weapon. No different than it is now.
To addendum to this, I even somewhat understand the complaint that gameplay in H4 is quickly becoming a “spawn, take potshots across map” type of game. But that has more to do with a lack of weapons on the map, and the general layout of the maps than it does with the DMR being overpowered…
People do not want the DMR to outshine the BR. It is a nostalgia thing. People have missed the BR, but ignore the fact that the weapon is a shell of its former self through their rose-tinted glasses. Rather than see the Battle Rifle’s faults, it is every other weapon that must make accommodations for the BR.

Ok, first of all, anyone complaining about the DMR is, by definition, whining. That said, I didn’t call anyone a whiner, nor did I say that anyone sucked, or anything of the nature. There is absolutely no reason to call me a “moron” either. I was asking a legitimate question about why this matters. Your response still doesn’t gel with me either though. 343 wanted balanced diversity? Fine. I’ll go with that. But what they wanted, and what they got are two different things. I don’t care what 343 wanted…the game plays fine, feels like Halo. I just don’t understand what would be accomplished by nerfing the DMR.
Even if the DMR/BR/LR/Carbine were all balanced PERFECTLY to do what they were intended to do…all that would really change is the rifle you were using against your opponent. The gameplay itself wouldn’t really change at all. Sometimes you’d load out with a BR/Carbine (Abandon, Solace), and sometimes you’d load out with DMR/LR (Exile, Ragnarok)…but so would everyone else. Nothing would change.
I just think that the change people want isn’t going to happen with changing the DMR…it’s the lack of weapons on the map that stales up the gameplay…
Coming from a competitive point of view, I would say the DMR is too easy of a gun to use. With out a doubt the game is more competitive and has a bigger skill gap when people only use BR’s in slayer pro. It makes the game extremely fun like Halo 2 style. I just think the DMR is too easy. Also, F**k Halo Reach. That ruined my love for the DMR and I find myself still using the BR over the DMR and destroying people anyways. Pointless reply haha
The reason why I want the DMR nerfed has nothing to do with my nostalgia for the BR. The DMR is too strong across the map and it ruins the game imo, the kill times are too fast because of the range and how easy it is to get someone to 1 shot hitting them 4 times ANYWHERE on the body.
