I don't understand the Radar hate.

Title says all. I really don’t understand the hate. Maybe it’s because I actually pay attention to it at all times that I can see where my enemy is? Someone please explain it to me.

Because it’s basically worthless now. They changed the range from 30 meters to 15 meters yet Spartans move even faster now. By the time people show up on it it’s to late to do anything a about it. I think the noobs of 343 did it so they can use their Spartan charge more.

After I got my gaming monitor I also got a good set of speakers and actually go by sound quite often. I have been told it’s even better to get some headphones.

I know how you feel

too true

The people that hate it either…

  1. hate that they’re bad.

or

  1. hate that they make mistakes pertaining to reading (or not reading) the radar.

Some situations can be unavoidable and you’re not going to catch every single blip, but it works really well for what it was designed to do. Period.

I’d also like to add that a solid team of 4 calling out is the best “radar” you could have!

Yeah me neither, there are interesting arguments against it but I think they’ve all been countered significantly. I think the radar is a great feature which helps define Halo on console.

I understand the hate for it. It’s less useful covering half the distance it once did. But as I said you can use sound to help with what the radar doesn’t cover sometimes.

Well I have no problems not being able to see or hear when people are near. Although I do understand how the short distance affects it now.
I just think it’s blown out of proportion. If someone thinks it sucks and makes them die more, then they need to learn how to play with it. It sounds cheezy but practice makes perfect. Instead of people taking to waypoint and ranting about it, they need to learn how to use it because it’s obvious it isn’t going to change.

The radar use is situational. I use it in close quarters, mostly when defending an area. It seems to me that the arena maps would have too much coverage under the old radar system. I remember using the radar in Adrift and being able to cover way too much ground with it. Everything is faster paced now so you have to learn to overcome it.

I suppose 343i tried to compromise between competitive no-radar settings and casual radar settings by keeping radar but nerfing it. Except a nerfed radar is pretty much pointless because by the time you spot someone on it there’s nothing you can really do.

Good players wouldn’t be relying on radar in the first place but I digress. There’s little point in even having it if you’re going to make it crappy at its intended purpose.

I still prefer having a crappy radar that acts more like Destiny’s “radar” than no radar.

more or less this with the headphones. i really dont pay much attention to my radar, and never really did too much in the past. so for me its not that bad. spartan charge is a tad op though.

It’s not even that the needed radar is bad
in theory a shorter radar is a perfect compromise for competitive and casual play
however when you add the short radar with Spartan charge slide sprint thrust swords that can zoom to give a longer lunge and autos that preform a bit too well outside of their intended range the shorter radar becomes a problem because player still end up relying on it even tho it’s near pointless
