I don't understand FOMO or the vaulting of armor pieces!

I was just browsing around some of the pieces locked away now that season one has ended and frankly it’s quite a shame that I have no way of purchasing them. I’m not so stingy about paying real money to customize my spartan. I understand some folks don’t want to dish out cash, and I totally understand, but I’m ready and willing! I don’t have the patience to check in every day to see if there’s something good in the shop. What this means is that despite having five bucks to spare on making my spartan look how I want her to; I’m only left with a sense that the game wants to shame me for not orienting my life around the purchasing of armor on time.

This comes off like a failure on the part of the marketing team, which has already done quite a terrible job. (See communication about armor cores, launch prices in shop and the S1 battle pass being available forever, but only if you purchase it.) I’m reminded what Bill Hicks once said about marketing and advertisement.

It is the absolute worst system. I want to buy something, but that item will probably hit the shop in 3 months from now. Ugh. I also wanted to buy something from season 1, but that has only been sold in 1 week somewhere in November or December, never to be seen again.

Funny how I was able to solve this issue in another post.

the downsides of having a rotational store only.

Long story short, their store system blows. It needs to be able to catalouge all past and present items, for players to purchase whenever they want. The fact they never considered this reflects on their UI and it’s either bad foresight or straight up designed to be predatory.

Regardless, their current store model is not helping them earn more, it’s making them earn less because there will be those who are patient enough to wait for price drops or for things to go back on sale to purchase them instead of impulse buying, and the longer these guys don’t get to buy what they want is just increasing the chance of them simply not spending at all.

And considering most Halo fans have been waiting for 10 years for a true spiritual successor to Halo 3, they can bet on us being patient enough to see this game die before you make us buy something out of Fomo.

You can view the items in the shop on this website you are using right now. You don’t need to login to the game everyday.

What item were you trying to buy in november/december?

I agree, this vaulting doesn’t really serve any purpose other than to say to a player “Here’s something you missed out on”. Just put it in the shop, rotate it in a throwback sale or leave it to a wiki to document.

Tacticlamp. 20 characters.

They’re not even doing themselves any favors by vaulting either since some of the sets only appeared like ONCE over 6 months, and that’s straight up hilarious if a player who just got into Halo Infinite is unable to buy it.

Your sales went from potentially being able to sell this set to a customer to no sale at all. Now multiply this by X amount of people who want to get some fashion items for this game they’re really into now and… poof there goes so much potential profit.

343 needs to stop pretending there is a scarcity of digital cosmetic items. The reverse psychology ain’t it chief. It’s not working.
Put together a catalogue of all your hot items and let us give you MOE-NEY!
That is what your investors want right? That is what the live service needs right? Y’all need the flow right?

Let us buy stuff from the endless stock of cosmetic items, FOMO only makes the community more apathetic towards this game.

Youre telling me every time you play a game and you see someone with armor that was from a limited event you get this mad? This isnt a feature exclusive to halo. Hundreds of games have this type of mechanic.

Hundreds of games have lootboxes too. Other games having a system (as a standalone argument) doesn’t make practices good.

The mechanic was referring to limited time items, not sure how lootboxes came into it. Limited items reward you for playing during the event. MMORPGs have seasonal and holiday events that have limited items and have since their inception. People dont complain and quit because they cant go back and get the XMAS mount that was released in 2008. they complete the current event and play the game.

I barely pay attention to what other players are wearing in Halo. I was referring to the items showing up when you go to customise your armor.

Just because other games have it, doesn’t make it a good idea or even a good fit for Halo playerbase. In Dead by Daylight they have a persistent shop for most of the available cosmetics and regularly make old event items free after a year or so. This is much better way of doing it.

Other games just make it so limited event items don’t show up in your inventory if you didn’t get them.

That way people who weren’t around for that event wouldn’t constantly be reminded that they missed it. It also makes it so they don’t have a bunch of things that are unobtainable cluttering their inventory.

Thats actually a good point. You should make a new thread suggesting that. Cant have FOMO if you dont know what youre missing.

I don’t understand it either. Especially now that we are getting repeats of the daily shop in the first week of the new season… like did you run out of content already?

Same boat, Especially as they stated early on they would not be doing this… then they did it.

Now I know it was the dev team saying they would not be doing it, and my guess is the marketting team went F that you are doing it you have no choice.

At least that is my hope, always blame marketting and the money making side for this stuff not the game dev side as I doubt the devs wanted to nickle and dime us.

I care not how cute my enemy looks in his shiny armor,

I only care if he is a worthy opponent
