Hear me out. At any point in thr campaign did we come across the wreckage of Infinity? I was maybe some small ships in space. And there were plenty of frigates on the surface of the ring. But if Infinity was truly destroyed, we would have seen miles of material left to rust. And yet, I didn’t see it. It is my belief that it must have somehow escaped before utter annihilation.
From what I understand… it was either 1-3 months when Attroix threw 117 off the ship and when the pelican found him
Infinity is gone… that giant ship that the chief was on was a scavenger ship that was taking the wrecked hull of the infinity and basically recycling everything for their ships, armor, weapons, etc
There’s concept art of the Infinity either crashed on the rings surface, intact or broken up, in others it’s cracked in two in space. So right now it definitely looks like the idea is that the Infinity was destroyed.
That said, no body no death. There’s also concept art of Guardians fighting on Sanghelios. So the concept art doesn’t prove it. Character frame this question as if the Infinity is missing as opposed to destroyed.
Plus we don’t know exactly what Cortana did when the Silent Auditorium exploded and the ring went somewhere; possibly even somewhen. For all we know the Infinity got sent six months into the future and is suddenly going to pop into the skybox in a DLC.
If the game is ten years and meant to be like Destiny; they need story threads. Yes there is a lot with the Banished and the Endless. But that doesn’t mean they will or should burn every bridge.
Also the multiplayer framed the story as a search for Zeta and the Infinity which both went missing. So it could be they focus on finding the Infinity.
If you look at the scene where Master Chief is scanning for survivors in the Pelican, the first thing he inquires about is the Infinity, and it’s not found, but when he inquires about any other signatures, the computer tells him all others were destroyed.
This is very clearly leaving an opening for the Infinity to have made an emergency last-second jump, so it can turn up later.
I know. In Halo 5 it does this in the space of a few seconds, not four minutes.
I feel you spartan but Its gone soilder.![]()

It got rammed by three of four Dreadnaughts. Even if it didn’t crash on the Halo, the hull would be severely damaged, the spine of the ship would likely have been warped to hell and back.
The ship survived crashing on Requiem and bombarded by a Covenant fleet.
Plus, it might have been possible in six months for the crew to effect some repairs if they were off the grid. If you sealed off the damaged areas from the rest of the ship and it’s core systems still functioned.
I mean it’s not the best game, but in CoD Infinite Warfare when you get the Olympus Mons is what it would be like if you got even a partially operating Infinity with its MAC cannon. In theory, the Weapon could operate the ship like the Forward Unto Dawn.
Also it’s the obvious Pillar of Autumn if they decide to try destroying the ring though that’s very far out currently since so much of the story seems rooted in the mystery of Zeta Halo.
There is no mention of the wreck ever crashing on the ring, and why would it? As far as we know it might have been left floating in space.
Even if the wreck did crash on the ring, it’s extremely unlikely that it would have crashed exactly on that little ring-island we were on.
In my opinion it is more likely that the Banished took the ship remains for study and backward engineering. Everything we know about the Banished indicates that this is exactly what they’d do unless the ship was either so utterly destroyed so there wouldn’t be any point, or if (like you said) they escaped without their captain when all crew had been ordered to abandon ship (unlikely).
Besides. If the opening cutscene where we see Banished ships ram straight through the Infinity wasn’t convincing enough, Escherum also says later in the game that it took them 4 minutes to “neutralise” the infinity.
Unless he was lying to mess with us. But I don’t think so.
In Spartan Ops, the Infinity flies through an RCS Battlecruiser as it exits slipspace like it’s no big deal. It’s not impossible for the ship to have survived a few impacts from other pre-Covenant-Human war ship designs. Keep in mind, we’re dealing with shields and fictional super-metals determining the durability of the Infinity.
But the scan in the early cutscene specifically stating that the Infinity was not accounted for, when it confirmed ALL other UNSC ships destroyed, is a strong clue that it may have survived. Atriox may have believed he dealt a mortal blow to it and was consequently not concerned when it made a last-second emergency slipspace jump.
We have no clue about the fate of the Infinity and 343 can make everything with it : destroyed, crash or escaped (maybe the ship didn’t travel with the Halo)
I hope the new book Rubicon Protocol will answer that question
Perhaps when the Halo moved, Infinity got caught in the slipstream but then ejected or pulled out during the transition? Perhaps in its damaged state, it couldn’t handle the jump with the ring?
First Strike established that such a manoeuvre is possible.
Agryna says that Infinity is missing, meaning it’s not at the pervious location of Zeta Halo, and the Pilot’s scans show it’s not at the new location either. So my guess is somewhere in between.
That said, we know the Agryna Bootcanp scene take place likely just after the Infinity is attacked, and the main campaign much later. There’s nothing to say Infinity couldn’t limp home, reappear in the seasonal storyline, then go on a mission to find Chief and the ring, showing up again in the next campaign expansion.
