I don't think the DMR's power is the problem

I’m not trying to be a supporter of the DMR, but I think the reason they hate this weapon is because of its intense range. In previous halo games, if you wanted to kill someone from across the map, it was a sniper rifle. The battle rifle had short ranges, along with the carbine, and assault weapons encouraged close combat.

With that being said…

Why is it hated in Halo 4 and not Halo: Reach?

In Halo: Reach, we all knew it had a recoil. The farther the enemy, the slower the shots you had to take. This encouraged a healthy balance of close quarters and skilled long range battles. With the DMR in Halo 4 however, there is no recoil, meaning you can get downed pretty quickly by an enemy far away.

My proposal

  • Bring back DMR with recoil (not fond of this idea) - Decrease DMR RoF (Many players on the community are fond of this) - Increase the shots to kill in the DMR
The latter actually isn’t a bad idea, but keep in mind there is the entire sandbox to think of. Also, removing recoil from precision and keeping it with assault weapons was brilliant, but it doesn’t work well with the DMR.

Rate of fire makes most sense without throwing off everyone

Competitive players in Europe have been using the 4sk BR settings for a good couple months now, it’s most definitely the way to go. We should be looking to create faster kill times now slower kill times.

I think its a bad idea. Although it does provide an advantage over the DMR, Halo isnt a game where you die in 3 seconds from a regular weapon. We have energy shields for a reason.

CE

The DMR has an EXTREMELY long range for a starting weapon. Now, I think that in a loadout shooter, it is important to have a weapon that can perform at long ranges, not not as well as the DMR does at all ranges. Lowering the rate of fire would render it a little bit more difficult to use at mid-close range, but it would still be effective at long range due to it’s long aim assist range.

Bloom on a precision weapon = bad idea. The BR, Carbine and Light Rifle do not have bloom (But they do have a slight amount of spread), so having one weapon require more effort and timing to use than the others is would be a bit biased.

As said by the E3 2011 Announcer:

i would change the zoom to 2x or make your proposal only work while zoomed in.

i think the biggest problem with the dmr is the maps. they promote the dmr type of game play. there are whole areas of maps constantly off limits because of the dmr. i only remember that type of thing happening in the past when you knew the other team had a sniper.

And look where we are now. Not looking so good.
Either way, it doesn’t make my statement any less true.

bullet magnetism… that is all

ALL guns need a RoF nerf, Aim Assist nerf and Bullet Magnetism nerf.

Can’t help but agree. The future looks rather bleak.

Peopel moan about it because they are crying thta their precious BR isn’t the strongest load-out weapon in the game.

No we are moaning about it because it outclasses any gun in ranges its not supposed to be effective in. We are moaning about it because it has the fastest kill time of any weapon (that you can spawn with and in a loadout shooter should not happen). We are moaning because you dont even have to aim the gun to hit someone with it, the cross hair can be off the target and blue and you will still be able to hit it.

My solution, get rid of loadouts problem solved, make everyone spawn equally and balance issues will not be nearly as bad (will still be there but not to the extent it currently is)

Thats just increasing the weapons damage % option that the europeans are using for Custom Games.
