I’ve said these guns were underpowered but every time I have, someone replies with “They are fine. You are using them wrong.”
Care to prove how these weapons are “fine”? I doubt both of their kills combined make up even 3% of the kills of the entire Halo population.
Show me some montages where people own with this gun.
Oh wait…there aren’t any. And if there are, it is probably just a compilation of kills somebody got and probably didn’t even do all that well with it.
The fact is that, bar the concussion rifle, these are the most unused guns in the entire game. And it is funny that they are so unused given that they are friggen loadout weapons.
Don’t get me wrong, I can rock some socks with these weapons. But in any match I dominate with them, I know I could have dominated ever more with a DMR or even a BR.
The Assault Rifle seems pretty balanced. It is hitscan, kills quickly, and can do about the same amount of damage to shields at midrange as a BR when bursted.
The Storm Rifle? Seems to kill only slightly faster than the AR but has only half the range.
The Suppressor? Kills the quickest but only in melee range. Unless you get the drop on somebody, you don’t ever want to get in melee range because if they know they are going to die, they will do a last ditch melee so that their teammates can take you out quickly.
Both these weapons need slightly less bloom. That would make them powerful enough to compete the the AR but also unique in their own ways.
I hope 343 looks the statistics of these gun and realize why they are so underused despite how many people call them “fine” even though they have probably only had one good match with them.
The suppressor is actually a little better than the AR in my opinion. I wish I could say the same for the storm rifle, though. It feels like a nerf gun.
Have started using Suppressor as my main in Regicide, and doing fairly well with it, paired with an Autosentry and Frags. Regicide is a great mode for automatics in general, as people will either be coming to you (if you’re king) or else liable to being ambushed.
Halo has always had a problem with automatic weapons. Know what I say? If they’re going to be a watered down CoD, they could at least do a better job of it by letting every type of weapon that should be able to get a headshot, GET A HEADSHOT. There, problem solved, at least for me.
I use the Storm Rifle in my Dominion Loadout, and it definitely kicks some real backside of the enemies. The Suppressor is great as well, I’ve seen people destroy with it, and I’ve had my fair share of moments with it as well.
Honestly, I think that people are under the impression that UNSC weapons are the most powerful due to the DMR being the best precision weapon and the Carbine and Light Rifle being weaker or harder to use. That leads them to think that the Assault Rifle must be the best automatic weapon, even though that isn’t necessarily the case.
The AR is the best of the three loadout automatics. It wins in direct confrontations 9/10 times. There is a youtube video floating around of automatics testing showing this to be the case. Its why its picked. Its not because we assume its better, its because we KNOW its better.
I use the Storm Rifle all the time in FFA Regicide, along with the Plasma Pistol. It’s funny how I keep wrecking everyone with their Precision Weapons, always puts a smile on my face. Might work for Dominion too…
Players naturally gravitate to stronger or overpowered weapons. Some of these players then spam the forums with a defense for those weapons in order to try and keep them OP. It’s also called Complacent Gaming Syndrome. Because of this, they rarely practise or use other weapons or strategies. The most they do is just to show how “lame” they are by using them badly or something.
The Boltshot makes both of these weapons redundant due to its high damage and range.
99.9% of people would rather spawn with a one hit kill close range weapon then waste their tactical package on Firepower because the Suppressor and Storm Rifle aren’t viable with a secondary unless you camp a lot.
The Boltshot and DMR is just far too powerful a combo to pass up.
The Storm Rifle is fine, it’s just like a Plasma Rifle and has never been good at doing the killing.
If you’re fired upon by it, you might as well not even have shields and all the user has to do is swap to a secondary or another primary and you’re done.
Closeish range? Sure.
If the DMR were to get nerfed, it would make those weapons more viable. Both can kill BR users who are overaggressive and get away from BR users attacking from far outside their range, but they’re also utterly useless in the face of the DMR.
The Suppressor is effective past melee range, just not at the range of the others. It is best used when you have an enemy running right at you, or when you are in an enclosed area like the bases on Shatter.
The Storm Rifle has slightly less range than the AR but performs better in that range.

I’ve seen that video, and you are wrong.
The AR was the best at long range, was about equal at medium, and was inferior at close.
