"I don't have the required Privileges"...

I hope somebody can help, I’m having trouble getting my Xbox & Halo 5 to see that I do in-fact have Xbox Live Gold. Here’s the situation:

  • My brother fires up his new xbox One and I put in Halo 5.

  • Install game then install 18gb updates

  • My brother plays multiplayer for a bit using his own gamertag.

  • Then I sign in with my own gamertag and play multiplayer on his console.

  • Later that day I move back to my own console using my own gamertag and install Halo 5 and the updates.

  • I head to multiplayer but it says the following:

“Multiplayer Required: This mode requires an account with Xbox Live Gold with multiplayer privileges enabled and a connection to Xbox Live…”

I have xbox live gold and I am connected to the internet, what’s happening??

I assume it’s to do with authorisation or something?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try removing the account from the xbox and redownloading.

Thanks Shadowsneaker, I’ll try that later today and report back!

Not looking forward to the 18gb download again!

Removing your account won’t remove the game.

Which console is set as your home console?

Do you exclusively have a gold membership?

If you played in your brothers console and he has gold, that gold is automatically inheritable by you if the console is set as the home console. I suspect that you do not have gold individually which is why you can’t play on your system.

If this is the case, get your brother to log on your Xbox and set it as the home console.

Hi Meek, I have my own Gold membership that I pay for seperately to my brothers.

How do I go about setting my Xbox one to my “Home”?

EDIT: I have just googled how and my xbox gold account is set to Home on my console. If my Brother makes it his home too can he still play the Halo 5 on his own xbone?

Stupid question, but did you download your gamertag back to your xbox? I know back in the day you could use your tag on another xbox but then had to download it again with your password and such to play on yours again. I used to forget to do that all the time and would be pissed I couldn’t play.

Hi Matty,

I have just completely removed my account from my xbox and then added it again, signed in, launched Halo 5 but it still comes up with the same message.

Interesting, I suspected that the issue may be that you do not have your own separate gold. If you have your own membership, then any Xbox you log in on, regardless if it is set to home or not, you should have access to all Gold features.

So if you pay for your own gold, and you set an Xbox as the home xbox, then anyone who signs in with their account on your console, will have access to gold privileges. Their account does not need any memberships, because they inherit them as long as they are playing on your home xbox.

Does multiplayer work for any other games?

Hi Meek,

I have just fired up Destiny to try the multiplayer on there (which I was able to play before all this) but now it says requirements not met.

Furthermore I tried to purchase one month of Gold just to be extra certain that I do have it and it says my debit card is being used on too many devices. As far as I am aware it is only in use on my own Xbox One.

Finally, to get Gold I tried using the Halo 5 trial code to bypass the immediate debit card crisis - yet it says I cannot use it because I already have Gold!

UPDATE:

So I fired up Halo 5 this morning, headed to multiplayer…and it works!

Not the most helpful solution to anybody else having the same problem, but it now works.

It did sync my Halo 5 data for an unusually long period of time (60 second or so) before it allowed me in so I guess that was the problem?

Thanks everyone who offered their suggestions, happy Halo-ing!

Figured it out.
