I don’t support paid DLC, but it’s here to stay. I don’t mind what 343 did with the REQ Packs because I like how they implemented it. You don’t have to pay for REQ Packs with real money. So, you can pay if you want to or you can earn points to buy the REQ Packs.
I would have a problem if you could only get the items through paying real money or if the points you earned was so small that you still pretty much had to pay real money. Say for instance, you only earned 100 points per game and had to pay 10,000 for the gold pack. I would also have a problem with it if it affected the Arena aspect of the game because that’s the part of the game that actually counts, but it has no impact on Arena other than cosmetically. REQ pack contents are mainly for Warzone which is unranked and you can take what other players bring into the game. They bring in a ghost, you can hijack it and take it. They bring in a gun with extra features, you can kill them and take it.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see why people are flipping out about it being so difficult to acquire all of the available armor when you can’t even see what your Spartan looks like because the game is a first person shooter. Everyone pretty much looks the same anyway unless they have something about them that stands out such as the big visor or the unicorn horn on their helmet. It’s all red guys and blue guys outside of that. So, who cares what you look like? Your opponent is trying to kill you. They aren’t admiring what kind of helmet or armor you have on and they can’t see the details unless they go on your service record which they won’t do 999/1000 times.
In summary, DLC is here forever even though I don’t like it. But, I do like the way 343 implemented it and wish that other developers would copy their strategy should they use paid DLC also because you don’t have to buy it to acquire it and it doesn’t give your opponents an advantage in ranked games.
It gives me no incentive to play Halo 5. I liked the previous games where you could unlock things like armor, and in Halo 4 weapon skins (which I still don’t mind). They gave me something to do. Reach was a bit of a odd one with the cR system and certain armors locked behind levels, but once you got past those levels you were free to spend your cR on anything you wanted. Not to mention that beating the game on Legendary, for example, would unlock special things for you starting with Halo 3. Now? It’s either pay for a random chance at getting armor, skins, etc or grind the game for the same random chance. If that is the route 343 wants to go down, that’s fine. Personally I’m having more fun playing Fallout 4 than Halo 5, of which I think I only played like 2 games since November.
I can understand you wanting to get what you specifically want as opposed to the random draw that the REQ Packs provide. I get that. Let me ask you this, do you think that the randomness of the REQ packs gives you more incentive to continue playing to get what you want as opposed to choosing what you want right up front and then putting it down because you already got everything you’re interested in?

Nope, no extra incentive. Thing is, I never unlocked everything in Reach, not even the stuff I could buy with cR but I still had fun playing the game. I think Halo 5 just doesn’t have a fun factor either for me.
I love the RNG factor for H5 REQ’s. Not knowing what I am going to get adds to that “fun factor” for me and longevity for me. I guess the complete opposite of Halsey. I also am not a person who feels entitled to get an award for accomplishing every little thing. The Millennial generation is corrupted by this. I am a Millennial but I have moved past that stage.

> Gotcha. So, do you think that lack of fun factor is more attributed to the game itself or the REQ pack system?
I think even if Halo 5 was fun, it’d still be wary. Like I said, the REQ system is essentially a lottery at best so that removes an incentive for me to continue playing.
I think it adds some variety for those who get special weapons too. It’s nice if it’s an achievement, but often time people just find a way to cheese the challenge to get those unique items. at least this way if you’re lucky enough to get a rare item it stays special for awhile.
I like the current req system. I think this is one of the few games I have played that I constantly keep coming back to. The req system causes me to come back and grind the crap out of matches to unlock my next pack. Yeah, it gets boring from time to time but its the route I am choosing to take since I dont want to pay. I love when I unlock a pack that has some awesome stuff in it. Onwards to 100% unlocked…
if I remember correctly, someone once posted a chart of how many hours you needed to play Halo 5 in order to unlock everything…and it’s a joke. Why would you have to play hundreds of hours to unlock everything. I don’t even have that amount of play time on older games like CS.

In halo reach there used to be max credit cap of 60000, with 20000`000 needed to cap. It would take 333 days of playing about 5-8 hours a day to get max rank. Is it that much really?

This and it seems 343 is more interested in giving us reqs as dlc so we keep by packs instead actually giving us content that every halo has had that is missing from the game like gametypes and custom game option. The focus of h5 seems to be lower the quality and milk as much money as possible at halos expense.
I’am not a fan of paid DLC, but I do like how 343i implemented there REQ system. I don’t have a problem with other people spend there money on REQ packs and I like that I have that options. Recently I did purchase the HCS pack with cash witch I really enjoy and think it some of the better looking armor and skins in the game. But that is it, it’s an option you have a choice.
As for the RGN system, haven’t had much experience with RGN in many games before other than destiny. I didn’t like how in destiny i would have to sometimes complete the same activity numerous time only to have a chance of getting what I wanted. To me 343i has done a much better good introducing RGN into a console game, I can play whatever I want and still earn point towards a chance of getting something I want. Also with how balanced the weapons and just overall gameplay of halo 5, I don’t feel like there is some OP weapon i must have.
Would have liked there where some cosmetics unlockables to earn threw campaign but doesn’t really upset me I bought halo 5 for the multiplayer.
WHAT “so difficult to acquire all of the available armor” you just have to play the game whats the rush…
Also a lot of people just don’t understand REQ packs if your only buying gold pack it will take you a lot longer to unlock things your better off sticking with bronze and silver until you start getting REQ point cards then move up to the next tier until you have acquired everything your heart desires.
Not Paid to win - I hear some people say this is “pay to win” but I disagree even if you own the cards you still need to reach the appropriate REQ level to use them. Most matches i have played in are short and really have enough time to get above REQ lv7 usally by the time I max out my REQ level the game is pretty much at an end or a blow out and pretty useless to us my high level cards anyway.

That’s what I’m saying. It’s all consumable items in Warzone and cosmetic items for Arena/Warzone. Being angry about not being able to customize your Spartan that you can’t even see since it’s a first person shooter doesn’t make sense to me. Like I said in the original post, your opponent can’t really tell what helmet you’re wearing unless it has a big visor or the unicorn helmet and they can’t tell what armor you’re wearing at all. All people see is red team or blue team. That’s it.

343’s modelling artists (not environment artists, they make maps) have literally nothing to do at this stage other than make more skins. So either a few dozen people have nothing to do and waste development money or they work on some cool stuff that doesn’t impact other content in the least.

I would suggest you learn not to flame individuals on game forums which violates the rules of game forums in which you are commenting on. Your primary point was fine, but the insults aren’t needed.
I liked it until it became obvious that every update they add more fluff to wade through to get the weapons. It was a bit of a grind but it looked like eventually you could get through the common and uncommon and get the good stuff. Now unless halo is what you do all day every day it’s gonna be tough

But, that’s the thing… they can’t please everybody. From your post, I gather that you’re more interested in acquiring weapon certificates, but there are other people on the boards that are complaining because they want armor unlocks over the weapon unlocks. So, you have people in both camps.

Not really. 40-50 REQs per update. Monthly update. At least half are going to rare or less:
26 reqs (rounding up) is 13 packs, 13 packs is around 39 games at most even losing in normal war-zone. 1800+1800+1800=5400. One hourish to complete 3 games, 1800 is about what you get for losing a game. So 13 hours for the silver content, double it for gold and add it on (13+26) is 40 hoursish to unlock a months worth of content. Over a month that means your pool will reduce if you play ON AVERAGE 2 hours a day. If you lose, every damn game. Rounding up.
