I don't get to play with my friends cause of SBMM in social

This!

I was about to say the same thing as you.

This is how people boost in the first place.

Agreed. No stats are collected, there is no leveling other than the Battle Pass. What is the point of playing Halo anymore other than to have fun?

Jesus Christ I just said this. Did you even read my post?

Let me quote myself against since you literally can’t read:

I then talk about the bugs with the ranking system that 343 explained.

JESUS CHRIST. YOU LITERALLY JUST SAID IT. You showed that there was a mismatch between what you perceive the SBMM to be doing AND the types of players that show up. And you did it in response to the part where I said there’s a bug in the ranked system that skews players up toward Onyx/Diamond.

Holy. Crap. How do you not understand?

Because ultimately the ranks don’t decide the composition of the lobby. That’a what I’ve been saying the whole time. But the ranks are determined by the qualifying matches which directly result from the sbmm. You argued with me you dope. I never asserted anything different and now I’m the idiot? Shut up.

Btw I’ve been playing ranked today and the number of actual balanced matches I’ve been are the extreme minority. SBMM is broken beyond belief right now and I’d rather have random MM in social than this screwed up mess.

  1. Said. The. Ranked. System. Doesn’t. Work. Correctly.

My. Argument. Was. That. The. System. Sucks.

You. Argued. It. Was. Because. Of. SBMM.

Please, for the love of god, take a remedial reading comprehension course

Well obviously the sbmm is overriding the ranks or else there wouldn’t be golds and high diamond/low onyx players in the same lobby. I don’t care what 343 wrote. What’s actually happening is the ranks have ZERO impact on lobby composition in ranked. So obviously there’s some form of sbmm at play here. If it were ONLY ranked system that was screwy then you’d have all plat lobbies where the games were stompfests. Get it yet? I swear you know nothing

An easy solution to at least help in the short term is to add BR social playlists with random matchmaking. Then you restrict pre-mades in ranked to be within the same class. Then you’re only matching golds vs golds, plats vs plats etc.

Bro, I feel your pain. Every game is sweaty…in social.

SBMM is fine for ranked, but I want a social, casual experience in the non-ranked playlists.

Please, God. Save me.

If there’s a bug/issue with the ranking system that skews players outside of their intended rank, does it not follow that you might observe inconsistencies with how the game matches up people if you’re only looking at ranks?

It’s not that you don’t care what 343 wrote, it’s that you literally don’t understand the implications of what they wrote.

Christ. So let’s do a hypothetical here.

Let’s say you set the thermostat to heat your apartment to 76 degrees. An hour later, the temperature reads 80 degrees. You say over and over that the thermostat is broken because the temperature isn’t 76 degrees.

Then I come in and point out you have a space heater plugged into an outlet and it’s making your apartment hotter. But no matter how many times I point out the space heater, you keep insisting the problem is the thermostat.

That’s what this conversation is like.

THIS IS BECAUSE THE GAME IS COMPLETELY IGNORING THE RANKS ONCE THEY’RE ASSIGNED!!!

holy crap you don’t read. Regardless of if the ranked system is messed up or not, the lobbies should still be homogenous for the most part. That means if I’m a plat 3 (which I am) I should rarely see players in my lobbies outside of platinum. This isn’t hard. Think.

DING DING DING DING. YOU DID IT.

Aaaaah but then you crapped the bed. You were right there. You had the whole point in the palm of your hand but then it slipped right through.

If the game is grouping people based on their SBMM, and the ranked system has an issue that skews players toward a higher rank than they’re supposed to be, DOES IT NOT FOLLOW that the game could match you, a plat 3, with diamond/onyx players that shouldn’t actually be in diamond/onyx?

No. It should keep matching onyx players against onyx players until their rank drops sufficiently to be in the correct ranking class. Because he could be anywhere from a plat 3 to diamond 6 even if he’s not really an onyx player. Good ranking systems do this. Under no circumstances should sbmm override the rank just to try and create a balanced match because it usually doesn’t work. Make that player de-rank organically.

Over rated players should be de-ranked organically. Just sticking golds, plats, diamonds, and onyx players all in the same lobby because the system “thinks” they’re all about the same skill level is absolutely brain dead. 343 totally screwed up there. Once the system assigns the rank, any correction should be an organic process that has players settling in to where they belong if the rank is wrong.

I imagine 343 have a chunky data set by now. Lots of social games between players across a wide range of ranks. The spread of results will tell them how well the algorithms are working and what needs tweaking.

Regardless. The answer is not random. Not ever. The old adage of “some good / some bad” only works for an average player. A very good player gets to play all day against average teams. More than 9/10 opponents will be ranked below them. They have a very different definition of “some”.

The issue of friends wanting to play with each other across a wide range of ranks is a difficult one. I don’t see a solution that doesn’t ruin the experience for someone else. What we really need is a social playlist that has some sort of handicapping system - so that all players can come and go as equals.

You can have random matchmaking if the skill gap is compressed. Making the AR easy to use with generous aim assist and expanded radar is one way of doing it. They could also do things like shortening shield recharge time and slowing down strafe speed. Since it’s social it doesn’t really matter anyway. Ranked is where everything can be fine tuned for actual competitive play.

Has there been any update on this? Im sick of waiting 20+ min for a game

Same exact thing for me. My friends don’t like playing with me because my MMR is so high in social that we usually just face sweats and it’s not fun for them at all

Make it random and add party matching as well so it’s as fair as possible. If I run solo I shouldn’t faced stacked teams that pad their stats

I didn’t ask what should happen. I asked what the implications were regarding a known issue with the ranking system. It was such a straightforward question; I don’t know how I could have been anymore clear.

I came back to this thread, sighed, then had to take a walk around the house because you still can’t fathom what the actual issue is. I don’t know if you simply can’t understand the implications of what I’m typing, or if you’re deliberately trolling.

Either way, you can have the last word.
