I don't get this??

I love what 343 are doing with Halo 5 but I can’t seem to understand how Halo MCC can power Halo 1,2,3 and 4 at 60 FPS with Splitscreen but Halo 5: Guardian’s can’t? Please help me?

It’s all because Halo 5’s engine is more demanding. Better graphics, better netcode, etc.

It has nothing to do with laziness or incompetence, I assure you.

Halo 1, 2, 3, and 4 are 360 games and aren’t fundamentally designed for 60fps.

For splitscreen, I believe that the framerate cuts down. Also, if you actually played H2A split screen, the frame rate drops more to lag when too much occurs on the screen.

It may not be this Halo, but split screen will return, and it won’t run as it did in H2A.

They are remasters and HD ports of games that are 1 and 2 generations behind. Halo 5 is a brand new current gen game. What i don’t get is how they can’t just add split screen with 30 fps. They don’t need to force 60 fps on us.

The game’s underlying simulation, the engine, is built around 60fps. Splitscreen and drastically reducing that framerate notably affects the gameplay as well as fidelity.
They could put splitscreen in, but don’t complain when none of your shots register because the game is forcing itself to run at half it’s target.

If it’s that or no split screen at all, I’m sure people wouldn’t mind if they at least had the option.

You’ll probably want to post this to the splitscreen thread as this will be locked soon

So you want 343 to release a fundamentally broken feature? Isn’t trying to not have things broken the reason everyone was upset about the MCC in the first place?

I mean if they can make it at least make a working split screen for those who realllyyy want it, and said players know that split screen would otherwise be canned. I think they would tolerate any slight bugs while playing, like a non registered shot.

How can you personally assure that? I don’t doubt you are right, but unless you work at 343 there is no way for you or anyone else to know what really goes on behind the scenes.

I would at least consider that this is not simply “impossible” like so many people are willing to accept, but rather “pretty hard, but if we cut it we can save money/resources and people will still buy the game, so…profit?”

With the amount of nitpicking about the smallest details that go on around these forums, I HIGHLY doubt people would brush off unregistered shots when doing legendary playthroughs. Plus, you don’t know how the primary consumer base (casual gamers) would react to broken features in splitscreen. My bet it wouldn’t be good.

Maybe. Though if it’s well known that the feature will be buggy due to the FPS reasons and should be taken lightly while playing, then it seems fine… to me.

All hell would break loose. The framerate and texture issues in Halo 4 split screen made so many people upset. They’re trying to release a quality product, especially after Halo: MCC. Giving people a sub par experience in split screen by making it 30 FPS (especially when the game is built and timed for 60 FPS) 720P would upset so many people, it’s not even worth trying.

Because they came out and said that the engine and the way the game is fundamentally built from the ground up has been aimed at being 60 FPS including the physics, the movement, the hit detection, animation, etc.

That’s why there is no split screen because trying to do that 2-4 times over with split screen would break the game. It wouldn’t work even if you cut down the FPS to 30 because then the timing and execution for everything will be way off.

inb4 lock. Its cause the engine is set to run at 60FPS

This thread won’t get locked cause it’s not just about Splitscreen i’m talking about Halo MCC and Halo 5 about the FPS.

Actually, about that… please use the thread linked above to discuss splitscreen.
