Why exactly is the punishment for quitting far greater than idling with guests?
Let me put it his way:
Scenario 1: (idling)
A guy who is lvl 130 wants to mess with people in big team battle. He signs on his 3 other controllers and starts a BTB game. He ruins the game for his team, and the opposing team. This is not fun for anyone. What does he get? Exp ban. Oh wait. He is already at the max level?? LOL. He goes to the kitchen and makes himself a sandwich, as his 4 accounts get queued up for the next griefing session.
Scenario 2: (quitting)
A guy who quits out from a bunch of games. What does he get? ONE HOUR QUIT BAN. He is banned from playing his favorite game, Halo 4, for one full hour. Finally, after the hour has passed up he joins his favorite gametype, big team battle. There is some idiot on his team with 3 idle guests. Its not fun so he leaves. ONE HOUR QUIT BAN.
How are these punishments fair? Shouldn’t they be swapped?
I’d personally rather have the random newbs I’m with quit the game before they go -23, as opposed to idling and giving the enemy team free kills and ordnance.
I completely agree with you o/p…I’ve put up a topic about idle players in games myself…as far as quitting goes…I believe you have to quit a lot of games before bans come into play
Arby I also agree… But I’d much rather see an idle timer of say…2-3 minutes and have a player kicked for being idle that long
I don’t think they should be swapped. Both behaviors should be punished because both are detrimental to the game experience of other players. IMO, both need harsher punishments.
Quitting should cause a loss of SR rank, just like quitting in Halo 3 caused a loss of EXP.
Players who have been idle for a few minutes since the start of the game should be kicked, and the kick should count as a quit in the player’s game history.
Quitting should hold some punishment, but for idle cap ban maybe you could freeze commendation progress? Some friends of mine and I play for fun but most often for commendations. If you did that, then I think those max lvls would think before they idled.
Personally I haven’t run into this problem, but if it happened to me, that’s what I’d want to happen.
Both “punishments” are meaningless. The exp ban is meaningless for the reasons you have already pointed out, and even if the player was not a 130, who really cares?
The quit ban on the other hand: frustrating in the instance you described, but if that happens twice in your Halo 4 career then I’ll eat my hat. Long and short: the quit ban is implemented at such a high threshold that you practically have to make it your mission in life to get one. Making it both annoying and pointless at the same time. Not easy to do. Go 343. And anyway, quit bans are the reason for campaign, spartan ops and Reach.
