I don't get it. Maybye im late.

Yeah, I’m VERY late to the Halo franchise. I got Halo 3 late last year, got very hooked to it, and got Reach and ODST a month later.

I havent drank from the fountain of incomparable joy that is apparently Halo 2.

So, what im asking is: Why are people hating on Reach NOW, instead of earlier during its prime-time? The problems are still there, the same ones since day one. So, whats the problem? 343 even fixed it a little with the MLG settings.

Gawsh.

Have you ever been on Bungie’s Halo: Reach Forum at its peak?

I still hate it as much as I do day 1.
By the way, 343 didn’t make the MLG settings. MLG did.

People hated on reach even before it’s beta was out. When the final product came out, the majority of the population left within 3 months. Some remain, and it has held steady since then, but a lot of people bashed it frequently.

Durning Reach’s prime time was when Bungie/343i were exchanging control of all things Halo. Which apparently took around a year. Durning this time Reach was not touched by any fixes or updates. Since that time it’s not really had anything else positive done with it either.

So now the cool thing for you to say is “I hate Reach” whether you do or not, or say things like “Reach is so broken” with out giving any reasons as to why.

> Have you ever been on Bungie’s Halo: Reach Forum at its peak?

What this guy said. It was a slur fest in there.

The Waypoint forums at that time had only a few people posting, because they were just created. This was also during the time that Bungie owned the Halo franchise in full. Any complaints or comments on this forum would not usually been seen by the people at Bungies eyes (or at least that’s a realistic assumption).

So you really wouldn’t see that many people on here posting about, well, anything in general.

I don’t think it was bad at all though. I’m a casual gamer and the campaign was my favourite to play - the story wasn’t as good or as interesting as CE, 2 or 3 because everyone knew that reach fell - but it was faster and I felt epic.

Online I found that most of the time it was enjoyable - the ranking system was alright. The armour / credit system was a nice start and there were some cool stuff in there [a fair share of stupidly large armour too] and the game modes were good. The re-play factor fell though once glitching and not playing properly.

But the blame for that lies within the community just as much as with the game / studio.

It didn’t have as long a life as Halo 3 - it wasn’t balanced as well and the community didn’t play nice as often as it should. But its still a great game

It’s been receiving widespread hate since around March 2011.

It’s a great game though, in my opinion. But then again, Halo 3 is SO much better.

> Why are people hating on Reach NOW, instead of earlier during its prime-time?

Were you on Bungie.net’s forums earlier in its prime time? The Reach section, specifically?

> The problems are still there, the same ones since day one.

Some problems become more evident with time.

Map exploits, conceptual flaws in the quit ban, false-positives in the (fake) AFK detection, Arena search exploits, the health pack glitch… These have all been around since day one, but that doesn’t mean they were widely known since day one.

> So, whats the problem? 343 even fixed it a little with the MLG settings.

“A little” might not be good enough for long-time fans of the series, many of whom have enjoyed Halo for a solid decade.

> Have you ever been on Bungie’s Halo: Reach Forum at its peak?

Every other thread was a kid whining about armor lock or bloom.

No. You’re implying Halo 3 was a more than great game, wich simply isn’t true.

Halo Reach as of after the TU outshines H3 by a lot. The main difference is that the Utility weapon in Reach is much more consistent.

Halos 2 and 3 were THE BEST because of the atmosphere and the amount of interaction between people, however, a few people still hated on Halo 2 and Halo 3 but Reach got so much hate, the whole community can probably agree on the fact that it isn’t a true Halo game.

A list of things some people didn’t like in Halo 2
-Campaign levels with Arby
-Frame Rate Issues
-The inability to use the Banshee’s Fuel Rod Cannon

A list of things some people didn’t like in Halo 3
-Bullet Spread on the BR
-The BR being “over powered”
-The Elephant being indestructible

A list of things wrong with Halo Reach
-Bloom
-Terrible maps
-Terrible story
-Terrible Ranking system
-Terrible homing on the plasma launcher
-Terrible hit scan on the sniper rifle
-Terrible game flow
-Terrible Friendly AI
-Armor Lock
-Broken Canon
-Host Problems
-Jump height
-Slow Movement speed
-Ridiculously long kill times
-The Arena
-Gravity Hammer range
-Betrayal system
-Quit Ban system
-Credits
*the list can go on forever!

When it came out the Bungie forums were full of people complaining about the game. When they made changes everyone complained they wanted it how it was. Whatever they did people just complained, and they’re still complaining now.

They gave them zero-bloom and bleedthrough.

I guess it was bad.

Umm… we have been complaining about Reach. Hell, most of us were telling Bungie before the game even came out what was wrong with it. Did they listen? No. 343 listened for a little while and fixed the game as much as they could (you can’t really do much with Reach).

And we’re doing the same thing with Halo 4 and 343. Will they listen? It’s not looking like it. So come launch day, we’re going to get the game, confirm our fears for the bad mechanics we’re already pointing out, post about it for a few months while enduring blind fanboy hate, and then hopefully get a few of the inevitable problems fixed.

It’s how it goes with every Halo.

Half of that list is opinionated nit-picks.

I just dont see why its as bad as people says it is. The only thing I hate is all the unfair stuff like Nooblers, armour abilities, and Meele distance.

Lol.

No.

No offense - but for the most part, unless you’ve studied the game at a fundemental level and/or played a lot of high level play (against good players / at low Onyx percentiles in Arena), you’ll really never truly be able to point out what is wrong with the game.

For example - I didn’t play much Gears of War 2. Why? I didn’t find it enjoyable and I couldn’t tell you why exactly - because I didn’t study the game to find out and didn’t play anyone good to have mechanics exploited against me.

However I have studied Reach in every single one of it’s aspects.

The game is broken in so many ways.

I’ve played very little HALO 3, no HALO 2/ODST, I have played Reach and CEA and Reach is just soooo much better than CEA and the part of HALO 3 I played.
