Look, I get that a lot of people only want to use vehicles and do nothing else, there have always been those people. But they’re already strong as heck as it is. The only balancing is that some weapons do a lot of damage to them while others don’t.
That’s the rub, people either do or don’t know what to use on them, and what their weaknesses are. But if you make them much stronger none of that will matter, every vehicle will be a free running riot, and that’s just absurd.
Halo Infinite’s vehicles are not only weaker in this game, but the terrain makes it all too easy to neutralize them with a boarding action.
Heck, the BTB maps make it so no matter where you are, someone has a form of cover where they can use it to approach and board the tanks. Add on the Grapple and all-of-a-sudden you don’t even need to be close to board a vehicle.
Not to mention the method at which 343 doofed up the vehicle handling and steering when compared to previous games.
You can now no longer strafe with a scorpion tank because it automatically tries to go where the main gun is aiming.
Yeah I found that out the hard way the other night, it was the first time I’ve gotten in a scorpion in this game. It’s in this video and you can see I decide to just park it and use it like a stationary turret instead of trying to move lol
I’d have to respectfully disagree. I know that as a Spartan, we are by no means invulnerable, and being gunned down by heavy machine guns was pretty common. Vehicles are just like any other tool on the battlefield, and every tool should be viable. But to see them cave to other players with minimal effort is a very saddening thing to see.
The boarding is easier due to grapples and smaller paths.
But the biggest problem in my view is how quick you can now destroy it while boarding. Board a tank and you can imidiately plant a grenade and the tank is destroyed. The teammates don’t even have time to fight back against it and kill the boarder before a grenade is planted. And the grenade now don’t only have to be planted at the seat, but can also be planted in the back.
In earlier games you could only plant a grenade on the seat, but only after you punched 2-3 times to destroy the hatch first. And in the back you couldn’t plant a grenade and had to punch 3-4 times. That gave teammates the time to kill the boarder and save their tank (scorpion or wraith). Now it’s almost impossible to save the tank. That is my biggest problem.
Problem with boarding a banshee or ghost is that you can even do it when it boosts (with grapple i mean). I think the should remove that option. When you grapple from the front, the colision should kill you, since its just with to much speed (it doesn’t make sence that a boost kills you, but when you grapple towards it, it suddenly doesn’t, even though the speed of the colision is even bigger…) and when you grapple from the back, the boost should just break the grappleline in my opinion.
I think this might make BTB even less fun but we’ll see. I like playing around with vehicles but there’s always someone on the opposing team getting crazy medals.
I think the changes are mostly fine for btb but in the 4v4 matches with vehicles this doesn’t seem like a good change. Getting a banshee on behemoth when you solo queue is already tough enough to deal with. It always seems like when I solo queue on these maps the other team is working in coordination to take me out before I can deal with their op vehicle that continually mops up my teammates. And even if I do shock it down or grapple jack it I am immediately sniped or skewered with no teammate support so we don’t get the benefit of the vehicle on our side. More health just makes this even more unbalanced.
I understand your point of view and your opinion. As someone who likes being in vehicles I can say that some of them are in desperate need of more health and others don’t. The Banshee NEEDS so much more health than it currently has. The thing is made from wet toilet paper. It starts falling apart the moment you get in the thing. The chopper is in need of some more TLC. The recent boost in Boosting Damage to Vehicles is very welcome and has made it actually have a reason to be used. Some additional health would be appreciated as well. Currently most weapons do decent damage to vehicles which make them not last long. It’s better than say Halo 4, but they don’t even last as long as Reach which is when vehicles started getting less powerful.
The only ones that I feel are fine right now are the Wasp and Scorpion. Both seem very viable currently and with the improvements to the driving of the Scorpion hopefully it will be better than it currently is. Right now the Scorpion drives so roughly. To me it felt the best in Halo 3. Really vehicle combat felt best in Halo 3 in general.
So my thoughts are this, i feel vehicles used to be able to take much more damage and maps were more suited for vehicles in previous Halos but they didn’t kill as fast. This is just a feel and i don’t have hard stats to back me up but i don’t ever remember the ghost or warthog turret killing as fast as it does in Infinite and i also felt like all vehicles in past Halos could take much more of a beating before being destroyed. The map layouts really hurt vehicles as well as there really isn’t a map outside of Behemoth where land vehicles can shine. All this said the wasp is way too strong and the banshee is way way too weak.
I would like a return to that, tankier vehicles with less dps as i always felt that it was more fun that way.
Individual vehicle tutorials in the academy would have been a lot better than buffing vehicles imo. There are already some of us who have figured out how to use hogs and ghosts prey darn well.
You could always plant a grenade at the back of Tanks since Halo 2. But you first had to punch the panels of armor on the front and back of the tanks in order to actually stuff a grenade under the armor.
It is why since Halo 3 the Scorpion and Wraith both have turrets on them, since if someone boards the front of the tank the gunner can then direct their fire to the boarders as they are busy punching the armor, which incentivized players to try and flank from behind where the turrets cannot aim.
That’s an issue with the maps then, not the vehicles.
The vehicles don’t need to be stronger, they’re fine as they are. The maps need to be bigger and more open to help improve the experience driving the vehicles.
I was saying that combined with the fact that they can take less hits before going KABOOM, their handling has decreased in quality from Halo 5 to Halo Infinite, and the fact that they ruined how steering works on the Scorpion; it is all compounded and made WORSE by the fact that the map design is very ANTI-VEHICLE.
Take a look at Valhalla. Rough terrain that is still OPEN enough to allow for vehicles to work smoothly while providing cover to the Spartans.
Meanwhile you have maps like Deadlock where the vehicles are restricted to LITERAL ROADS and have little room to actually off-road maneuver.
