I do not like the melee damage nerf

Clearly that’s not all they wanted to change.

It’s almost like they felt melee was too powerful across the board.

Which is weird, because most of the single shot melee weapons aren’t impacted, it’s just the mangler and base weapons that took a hit.

“I do not like the melee damage nerf”

And it was a game wide nerf affecting the campaign also. Before the nerf, in the campaign you could “shock” grabble a Brute and melee one hit kill. Not anymore…

wait what?? was it always like this? or just since they did the recent adjustments?

They made this change at the start of season 2. I don’t understand it.

In all of my Custom Game Modes in Halo Infinite

Here are my Mele settings:
Melee Damage Ratio: set at 200%

That means you will kill anyone win ONE MELEE SWIPE!.

No nerfing in my custom game modes PERIOD!

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

If I’m being honest, I haven’t noticed the melee change yet. Melee already does a large amount of damage so I don’t have an issue with reductions in regards to it.

They did this at the same time as the mangler nerf. They reduced the overall melee damage, which affects the mangler and the BR, then changed the BR back in ranked. Something like that - it’s in the patch notes

Yeah they lowered it by an arbitrary amount so the only weapons it affected were the Mangler and BR since the melee bleeds through shields. For everything else it is a double melee or sheild pop melee

It’s the most backwards means of rebalancing the mangler. Like, how convoluted is all that? Why not just reduce melee damage for the mangler specifically if that was their goal? Changing all melees then micromanaging it for one weapon in one playlist is just extra steps

Absolutely with you on this. I wonder why they made the changes this way too? Perhaps it’s more to do with the code/engine over anything else - no idea just speculation

Either that or maybe they wanted to change how melee worked regardless - perhaps for a mode not yet released or just because some figures somewhere indicated they should.

I just. Why. Nothing they do makes sense. Ever.

Totally agree. Now perhaps there is some reasoning behind it:

1/ they wanted to make a melee nerf so rolled the changes into one

2/ they don’t know how to just change the damage output on the mangler. Blaming toolkit unfamiliarity (slipspace) or dev turnover (guy who coded it is gone and they couldn’t find the code, working from home etc making central save more messy)

3/ it was easier.

If their reasoning was anything other than point 1/ this is not a good sign. I appreciate covid and hybrid working affects stuff and, with all the negative press, it’s unsurprising devs leave and stuff becomes more difficult to find…but still…it’s not a great indication unless it was intentional. And if that - we will never know.

Just want to note: This melee nerf makes double melee kills better by increasing the ttk of single melee kills.(Kills where you shoot the other guy a bit before you kill them with melee). Double melee ttk stays the same, making ‘unga bunga’ charge punching better by comparison. This is a bad thing.
