This will be the first mainline Halo game(If you exclude Reach) to have a subtitle since the original Combat Evolved. Guardians is an interesting one at that. But I wonder why? Halo at this point traditionally doesn’t do subtitles and back when the “leaked” version of E3 2013’s trailer showed up the title was Halo 5 with no subtitle. So its kind of a recent addition. Makes me curious. Do you like the subtitle or not? Discuss.
I think it needed something to make itself stand out from the other Halos because that is apparently 343’s largest objective

As long as it’s relevant and is actually worth the change in tradition I’m alright with it.
I’m hoping that it’s like Halo 3: ODST. Maybe a prequel to the real Halo 5? That’s what i’m hoping for anyway.

The first Halo was called Halo: Combat Evolved or CE it could have just been called Halo but they had the subtitle to describe how it was.
Halo 5: Guardians maybe is describing that chief is trying to guard something or the ONI Spartan was sent to guard chief if he went rogue and make sure nothing bad happens to him.
Of course that idea would go against canon for Halo: Escalation that the UNSC or ONI have no clue where the chief is at the moment.
I like the subtitle but is this palmer? , Please don’t let it be palmer I hope its thorne instead or anyone else besides palmer.
Edit: I just noticed that that spartan has the Oni symbol on him/her, could it be someone that was sent after chief by Oni?

I’m willing to bet that its the Master Chief and another new character acting as the Guardians of Humanity. This is made even stronger by the fact that Chief is finding his human side for the first time in forever.
To me, I like the subtitle. As long as it makes sense with the story they are telling, Then I won’t mind. Hell, I think it’s kinda cools that the title isn’t just Halo Insert number here
Since 343i stated that they’re expanding the Reclaimer trilogy to a saga, perhaps we’re seeing Halo 5: Subtitle because they may be splitting the game to allow more storytelling (profit).
Guardians may not be the only Halo 5 that we’re getting.

the name is perfect, “Halo 5 Guardians”
the number makes it to recognize in chronological order and “Guardians” makes it stand out from the rest.

Ok, sorry.
A) Subtitles make the games far more distinct and memorable. The numbers get old, quickly.
B) Hooray, news!!
C) Let the “You were killed by the Guardians” speculation and jokes run wild
Guardian is a pretty cool name, but it could change, just like Halo 3: ODST changed from Halo 3: Recon
I think the storyline will probably mimic H2’s in a way: whereas in that game Arbiter lost his religious security, this game will probably revolve around that SIV (Thorne? Palmer?) losing their personaly security when it turns out ONI is evil.
With Chief, in both instances, acting as the side who already has figured that out.
In that way: Guardians will point at their roles as guardians of mankind.
A logical title…but also a very, VERY generic and campy one if you ask me. I don’t really like it. I’d rather just have it be Halo 5. Plain and simple.
the name guardians is nice,maybe ONI decides to add Chief into an elite group of spartans from all projects,spartan II-IV program,and chief runs away knowing he has to be a ‘soldier’ again and instead wants to find his humanity
First of all:
Of course a Subtitle “does more with you”. Your head starts thinking about the story behind. Who are the Guardians? GuardianS? Not just one Guardian? What are they guarding? And so on.
Thats more than a simple number “5” could do.
It will be over a year until it’s release. So giving it a subtitle makes it more present right now. It’s not a faceless game that will release fall 2015. “Guardians” gives it a face right now.
Perhaps you can see it as an “acknowledgement” for the fans/community, to fill the gap until 2015 just a little more.
And as you said before: If Halo 5 will really be as big as they promised, the subtitle marks it’s weight more.
On the other hand:
Not just the Announcement sounds like “There will be a lot more”. So perhaps there will be other Halo Games Co-Existing to the events of Halo 5.
So there will be the shooter “Halo 5: Guardians”. Maybe some new RTS? “Halo 5: commanding somthingsomething”. Or a second Spartan Assault? “Halo 5: Spartan something”.
This would make it easier to put those games into context.
So “if” there will be a Halo Wars 2, it might be confusing for some people who are wondering “Halo Wars was years before Halo CE and Halo Wars 2 is years after CE?”
