I really don’t like this idea. the reason i like halo is because it was a fair start, finish, and end. meaning everyone started on a equal level. besides from skill/experience there was nothing that genuinely put someone at an advantage off the spawn. The objective was to gain map control, and control of the power weapons. But these “perks” offer a random factor that i feel messes with the competitive game play. It was seen in reach with bloom. Bloom took off the competitive edge because it incorporated luck. Luck was a bad thing to add to a competitive game because it renders the skilled players and allows for those who are worse to do better. Thank god they took it out
But back to the “perks”, halo 1,2,3, in each of these games you started off on a equal level as your enemy. No advantages/disadvantages. That limits the randomness, and the only thing to be blamed for losing is lack of skill/ team coordination. which is the way it should be, a good team should do better than a bad team right? well, armor abilities in reach took away that mutual start that both teams get in all the previous titles, some of the armor abilities rendered map control completely pointless and allowed for one player to reach power weapons quicker than the other, thus the advantages and disadvantages are born. Granted you are the one who chooses the ability off the start, and you are both given equal opportunities to choose from the selection, but that still doesn’t take away from the fact that someone “can” have an advantage off spawn. Thus adding unwanted randomness.
So, to sum up my point, these perks are going to add randomness/luck, something that was a foreign concept in all the halo’s up until reach, and we all see how well reach did. Learn from the mistakes, don’t repeat them, competitive game play should incorporate a system in which all players start off as equals. P.s. armor should be strictly aesthetically pleasing, not play a significant role.
And let me clarify, i’m not hating on the game, because i know i’m still going to enjoy it. I’m a big fan of the halo series, i will always remain loyal to the halo storyline, this game looks amazing, and i’m thrilled with all the effort that 343 has put into this go so far, but i gotta say, the thing that hooked me was the Halo triangle. and it’s gone far past the triangle.
Finally, someone who recognizes the problem. A progressive unlock system will not bring in new players and it will even further alienate older players from the series. You would have thought 343 learned from Reach that drastically changing the halo formula to attract new players simply doesn’t work. You only need to look at its population
It’s just bad journalism they aren’t “Perks” and Frank has said several times on NeoGaf that we’ll see what is going on and what they plan to do. Why don’t you calm down til we actually see something?
I’m perfectly calm. if you read what i posted you would understand what i am conveying. i am stating how halo has always been based around a fair system, and anything that offers an advantage right off the bat over another person is plainly put, not fair. And it would be a bad thing to add a unfair system into a game, that’s predecessors were completely based on fairness.

thank you god somebody that finally isn’t a monkey
its so sad to see how fast people will rage without even knowing what is going on…
you guys the people making this game are not limited. they know that a large population…very large including myself…thought the armor abilities were no good for this game…im sure they are going to make things work just wait and see and then decide. not prematurely
so damn prematurely, weve seen a total of 12 seconds of choppy gameplay…come on
I agree completely, Perks to me sound a lot like Armor Ablilites, and AA’s were bad. I’m perfectly fine with sprint being in the game because without it in very single game I play including older Halo’s just makes me feel like I’m moving slow. Perks should be nothing more then pick ups around the map like jetpacks(not unlimited use), overshields, invisiblity, bubble shield, regenerator, etc.
Agree, glad to see someone else who understands the implications of a gameplay changing progression system.
I don’t know why Halo fans are giving 343i so much respect and trust right now. They haven’t proven themselves yet, and IMO should be held under the closest scrutiny possible.
Frank has also said there will be Armor Abilities. So yeah, we’ll see how that works out. You don’t know how any of this will play out or what the plan is. It’s really TOO early to tell. Wish there was a way to perma-ban all the crying children.
I dislike the idea, but it doesn’t reduce my hype for the game. Even though I’m against the idea of loadouts + perks , another part of me is cautiously optimistic about the ways 343i could implement and balance them; so I’m kind of torn over this
I’m going to put a little shine on this situation. What 343 means by perks is what type of armor your wearing, not like call of duty where you reload faster or anything unbalanced as that. Say if you have a grenade belt or ammo straps, you would get an extra grenade or some extra ammo. All 343 wants is to add more intensity to the multiplayer and make the game more fast paced. So stop acting so immature because it’s still a work in progress and we all know that every person in this thread is gonna buy Halo 4 so let 343 do what they know is good for the franchise
