So, to understand the story you need to know a lot of Halo Lore. I only play the games, so here are some questions I have:
-If Covenant and Prometheans were allies in Halo 4, why does the story of Halo 5 start with a war between them?
-If Guardians were ancient Forerunner technology, then why the Didactic didn’t used them?
-Who or what is the Warden?
-In Halo 2 anniversary, during the first cinematic, the Arbiter refers to Master Chief as his “prey.” Was that a friendly nickname?
I think that Halo lore should developed based on the game story, and not viceversa. So I don’t like the story at all, but Halo 6 is gonna be based on “this,” so it would be good to know some background.
I would imagine halo 6 will gently skip past some of the glaring mistakes of halo 5 as it would take about 10 games to resolve that cluster -Yoink-. Also the addition of a new lead writer who worked on the Batman Arkham series gives me a lot of hope of a coherent story and a story that will kick -Yoink- because that series of games narrative was awesome, and hopefully that empowerment we felt playing as batman who totally felt like a kick -Yoink- one man army will translate to the chief and halo can be badass once more !!!

Yeah, what I didn’t liked was Cortana being evil. How many games would they need to fix that?
Wait a minute, what emoticon is that on the title and how did you put that there?

I’m gonna guess they made this thread while on a mobile device like a smartphone / tablet, hence the emoticon.

Hmm I may be wrong but I think it was this one:
I believe he put it there by selecting it in the emoji keyboard.

Prometheans allied with Covies because the didact controlled them and wanted to jointly kill humans. Didact is now dead, so the prometheans fight to defend forerunner tech from everyone. (Edit: Didact doesn’t actually die at the end of H4, he dies later on as is explained in a Halo novel/short story)
Didact did not have direct control of the guardians and was immediately busy with the Master Chief while Cortona got to work in the shadows for a while from Genesis.
Warden is tasked with defending Genesis and the locations of Guardians. A big bad AI with thousands of bodies on multiple planets.
At the beginning of Halo 2 the Arbiter was fully with the Covenant and thus hated the Humans. Now their relationship has changed so that he and the Chief are friendly: think of the first cutscene of H3 when chief meets arby and tries to kill him until Sgt. Johnson calms him down.

1: The Prometheans and Covenant Remnant were only allies because of the Didact. Once he disappeared, they went rough and changed quite a bit.
2: The Didact didn’t use them because he didn’t need to. His goal was to compose (basically kill) the entire Human Race. A Guardian won’t help him accomplish that goal.
3: What? At the beginning of Halo 2 the Arbiter and Master Chief were enemies, so how could it be a friendly nickname? I don’t even remember Arbiter ever calling Chief his “prey”.
I think arbiter referred to the chief as being locke’s Prey. As Locke was going to hunt chief down in the h2a new opening cutscene before the original h2 opening started.

None of your questions require outside knowledge.
-Covies and Prometheans are enemies because of Cortana. This is not shown in outside media before halo 5
-Why didn’t the didact use them? His control seemed to mostly be limited to Requiem and his ship, which was doing fine on its own. He might have used them eventually.
-Who is the warden? We don’t know.
-There’s no outside explanation for Arby called Chief prey.

So, Didact has a side story that 343i never used in their actual game because… buh.
Also, Warden is tasked with defending Genesis by who? There’s already a Monitor and why would he give control to an AI that came from nowhere, LOL it’s like you pick anybody from the street to run the business that you’re meant to protect

1: So, if Didact is dead, then who controls Prometheans? Before Cortana came, who was in charge of this guys?
2: So, Guardians aren’t able to kill? We never see them in action, so what power do this gigantic Pokémons have then?

Yeah, maybe it was meant to create expectation on a plot that never happened

When I played the campaign, I thought that the Warden was the Didact. Like Cortana saved him and used the composer to turn him into a Promethean. He is a cool boss, but feels very frustrating having to face the same boss like 4 times.

1: Nobody controls the Prometheans. They are on their own guardian Forerunner stuff.
2: Nope. Guardians aren’t weapon platforms. They are enforcers. The only thing they can do is emit an EMP wave that can shut down entire ships and planets, which is what they would do if said planet or ships “step out of line”. Think of a taser.
Morso el panda - Please don’t post multiple times in a row, thanks. You can edit your last post to add more information
As far as the Warden goes I’ve only seen one book that talks about him and basically he’s a forerunner who’s mind was downloaded into a monitor just like 343 Guilty Spark was but from the one thing I read about him even other forerunners both feared and respected him I think he was like the ultimate judge who decided your punishment.

Depends, I’m guessing she’ll die in the next game of the one afterward. What you really have to worry about is how long it’ll take to develop all the characters, since they said HW2 will link to H6 there will be…
Chief, Cortana, Arbiter, Locke, Lasky, Palmer, Roland, Halsey, Buck, Frederick, Kelly, Linda, Tanaka, Vale, Warden Eternal, Exuberant and if you include HW2 it’ll be Captain Cutter, Anders, Jerome, Alice, Douglas, Atriox, Shipmaster, (Maybe) Colony, (Maybe) Pavium, and (Maybe) Voridus.
That’s 23-26 characters! Jeez! I’m expecting a lot of death cutscenes, hopefully the less developed characters get a cool or symbolic death.

Covenant was disbanded in H3. Halo 4 was the Storm, well H5 I believe were similar factions…kind of like how the Banished aren’t part of the Covenant. Not all factions agree with Cortana/Prometheans just like how not all humans are allied with Oni/Unsc.
I believe the Didact didn’t have access because he was a criminal, which was why he was sealed in H4. The Warden isn’t clear to me but probably AI created from Forerunner Dna like Guilty Spark was human.
You might want to watch out for terminals in game for more lore since they tease things like Gravemind, Logic Plague…

- Cortana gained control of the Promethean forces and was not interested in continuing an alliance with the Storm Covenant.
- The Didact was not interested in controlling humans so much as composing/destroying them.
- The Warden Eternal was the keeper of the Domain.
- I’m not certain if you were paying attention to the context of the Halo 5 teaser cinematics that were added to the beginning and ending of Halo 2: Anniversary, but the Arbiter calls Master Chief Spartan Locke’s prey, which was an apt title, considering that at that point, Locke was hunting the Master Chief.
