I don’t know exactly what it is, but when I play as an Elite in Halo 2/3, I can’t stand picking up human weapons. So there’s that.

I dislike some of the human weapons but don’t hate them. I just call that pure dedication.
When I play as an elite I often choose the human weapons because they are more common when you play as an elite (at least in Halo2) then as when you play as Master Chief.

I know how you feel! When I play as an elite I feel I should be true to the sanghelli and use our own weapons.
What I liked about playing an elite, is it’s different than just a regular soldier/Spartan. For the elites at one time it was a religious crusade , their destiny by their God to destroy mankind! So why wouldn’t an elite continue to use a plasma pistol or rifle of the chosen peoples. Religious zealotry at its finest!
