I can't seem to rank up...

I’m finding this a bit annoying. I’m a Diamond 1 at the moment in TS and wanted to rank up, but keep getting placed with Gold and Platinum players. This means that if I win, I only gain a bit of rank. But if I lose, I lose lots of rank. I don’t understand why it’s matching me against lower ranks? Surely if I’m Diamond I should be playing Diamonds? Even worse is that I keep playing against unranked players, and I hate playing against them. They could be high level Onyx when they qualify, and even if I beat them I’ll only gain a tiny amount of CSR.

Checking my game history for the past few matches, I won 4 in a row, didn’t rank up. Lost one, it stripped most of my gains from the past 4 away:

Riptide - we won 50 to 43. I had 18 kills, 7 deaths. Gained a small amount of CSR.

Pegasus - we won 50 to 47. I had 15 kills 11 deaths. Again only a small amount of CSR.

Regret - we won 49 to 27. I had 21 kills and 6 deaths. Again, tiny amount of CSR gained.

Truth - we won 50 to 24, and I had 24 kills and 9 deaths. Tiny amount of CSR brings me near to Diamond 2.

Fathom - we lost 35 to 50. I had 14 kills to 11 deaths. Lost almost half a bar of CSR!

And my latest game on Truth was a one sided beating. We won 50 to 28, and I had 25 kills to 4 deaths. Yet only gained a small amount of CSR.

So to recap, I started on Diamond 1, won 4, lost 1, won 1. Still on Diamond 1. Out of the past 6 games we won 5, and I had 117 kills to 48 deaths, over 2 to 1 kill to death ratio. So why is the game matching me against lower ranks all the time? It’s frustrating as I’d like to play against people more skilled than me so that I can improve. I had 2 kill frenzies in my last game, and have had several sprees today. While it’s fun, I’d rather test myself against higher level opponents.

Any of you EU Onyx players fancy a game? I prefer playing with EU players due to the latency, but most of my friends are lower ranked than me.

I’ve seen similar people complaining about this issue over in the Support thread, maybe it’s just harder or maybe it’s a problem.

It’s a problem. The ranking system needs work. Their algorithms are off. Something is not right. Even the Ban Hammer system is off.

I was on the brink of platinum, then a couple rounds agaisnt diamonds changed all that for me.

Well I’ve just been playing with a higher ranked team, and it definitely makes a difference. The game was a lot tougher, but I’d rather it’s like that as I want to improve. It’s easy to get complacent when you play much lower ranks, as they just seem to stand there while you shoot them.

Ok, just to further illustrate the problem… I just won 9 games of team slayer in a row and ranked up from Diamon 1 to Diamond 2. Lost 1 game, went back to Diamond 1. Come on! That’s a good win streak, but I hardly gained any CSR for it.

I go in solo most of my games… And last night was rough. I went positive most of my games and lost so so so many. It’s hard to rank up if you’re playing with mic-less players and they’re all random.

It may be due to the fact that a good amount of players are in the Diamond rank. So, in theory, you’d need to win 20-30 games straight to go from Diamond 1 to Diamond 2-3. If you lose a game immediately after you rank up, you’ll need to play another 20. So, to secure your place, win 20 games to rank up. Then play another 10-15 and win those. You should be securing your place like that.
