Let me start off by saying I’ve always been a HUGE Halo fan, I probably have almost a year of real life time into halo games. I played halo 2 and 3 like it was my job. Reach was a big let down, but it still got about 30 days worth of play time from me. I really tried to set all my skepticism aside for the release of halo 4 to renew the amazing times I’ve had with the halo series.
That being said, I have about 10 hours of play time into halo 4 and I already find myself bored. Everything about the game lost it’s touch. Movement feels okay, jumping feels awkward at best and grenades… don’t get me started. It just doesn’t feel right at all. Beatdowns can either lunge across the map while looking in the other direction or miss all-together while 2 inches in front of somebody. Hitboxes feel enormous, and watching the awful killcams almost brings a tear to my eyes.
There is no rush for starting weapons and therefore map dominance feels worthless. The game has become less of a head to head slaughter for map control and power weapons and more of an all in no matter what to get more experience for a drop pod with a power up in it.
Not only does the weapon system promote suicide and non-team gameplay but the scoring system rewards 1st place to the player who goes 18-30 rather than the person who goes 15-3. There is no incentive for me to win other than a small exp boost (don’t worry I can’t get experience because I’m capped, my double experience games all went to waste as well). It just feels like a VERY large portion of the skill and knowledge advantages halo was always known for has diminished.
I could go on or into depth but for now I’ll leave it at this. I think reach was a better game than halo 4, and I despised reach for what it did to my favorite game series. I’m going to give it my all in halo 4 and continue to try and find the fun I so desperately seek, but so far i haven’t caught a hint of it.
